Hello,
Please help me out, as a complete beginner NAS user, I'd like to know if it's a good idea to purchase my very first NAS.
My wife and I are both photographers and video makers, we have always stored our photos/videos/projects on external hard drives (like Lacie or SanDisk) but we have had troubles lately caused by disk failure or even slow performances.
I had this idea of upgrading to a NAS storage: I'm thinking on buying a TerraMaster F4-210(2G) with 4x4TB WD Red drives, used in RAID5 (so 12TB total capacity). We would like to store all our data on this server, and work directly from this server with our photo/video projects. I will most probably connect the NAS directly to our Mac Studio M1 10GbE port, we don't have a network, it's only me and her accessing the same computer in turns.
Do you think this is a good idea? Is this NAS capable of helping us out working fast enough for photo/video projects?
Thanks in advance
Best regards

Hello again, for ease of use, security, external access to shared folders (folders and subfolders) but exclusively Word, Excel files. Rather webDAV or SMB ? We don't have firewall. Best regards. Patrick Otten.

I need to upgrade my drive capacity in my Synology 920+. I want to replace my 8tb drives with 20tb drives or similar. Currently the new Toshiba MG10ACA20TE is reasonably priced locally. I cannot find much info on this drive, other than I know it is MAMR and 512E, I believe. Do you have any thoughts on this drive for use in a 920+? Also, I realise that Synology have yet to add this drive--as with many others--to their compatibility list, but could you tell me if it would function in the 920+ - if not I need to look for other alternatives.

Hello! I'm a motion gfx / vfx artist in need of expanding my storage.
Currently working on a 2020 imac with 4TB of storage but struggling to constantly stay on top of clearing data in between multiple jobs. Ideally looking for a DAS or NAS that has fast read / write speeds as I work with a lot of 4K and higher footage in DPX or EXR sequences. I primarily work on this 1 machine (currently in my bedroom) and i have an older imac downstairs and use dropbox to pass files between them. So a NAS would be good but not essential. Though i am looking at building a garden office so longterm a NAS might be good for working in and out of the house though the immediate need is to just expand storage but maintain high read / write speeds.
Appreciate any guidance on this.

Hello again
The question I have and hopefully you can help with is: With a QNAP 8 bay NAS I was thinking of utilizing QTier and replacing one or more of the HDD(s) with SSD(s). I understand the more commonly used data will be stored on the SSD(s) but if I where to only use one SSD then would I lose redundancy on that specific data? Would I have to replace two HDD's with SDD's so that portion would be in at least a Raid 0 within the QTier?
Thanks for your help and I really enjoy watching your videos especially ones that take deeper dives into hardware and software then just basic setup alone..

I am working for a big travel youtube channel that want a nas to be able to upload footage for editors while traveling. We went with a Synology DS1621xs+ becasue it was sponsered by synology after about a year of use it was not working with the editors and youtubers due to the lack of video preview without video station which was to much to organize. They wanted to use the synology for back up and switch to a WD PR4100. I am now tasked with migrating around 35+ TB of data over is there a faster way to do it than over the network I notice that both of them have USB options but not sure if they will reconize eachother. Looking right now at an 85 day transfer

Hi,
I've been using Plex for a long time, and have never Transcoded (mainly because my DS414 can't handle it). The only streaming which happens is one person having remote access to my Plex from their tv. Other downside of the DS414 is that I can't run Docker on it. I use mainly SABNZBD, CouchPotato, Sonarr, Transmission as packages.
I've been looking at either DS423+ or DS923+ (can't seem to find the DS920+ in Belgium), I understand the downsides of both systems. I will use my existing disks for the time being (12TB in total) before upgrading to larger size disks.
As I can do without transcoding, as it seems at least, would the DS923+ be the only wise choice?

I recently contacted you to ask if you knew anything about the Nokia FastMile 5G (SIM) router as it is relatively cheap when compared to other 5G routers on presently on the market.
This just a quick note to advise that I have since discovered that the Nokia router uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 which was very quickly superceded by the X55. Could be that is the reason for its low price (?).
No reply necessary. Thanks.
