I have HEVC files from my IPhone – 1080p, 1080 X 1920 at 30 frames per second. I am thinking about the Synology DS923+ or DS1522+. I will be playing these HEVC files on my TV. Why can’t the Synology not play these HEVC files in the original format like my iPhone. Why the transcoding? There is no issue when they play h.264 files. Is this a licensing issue? I would gladly pay for a license to play these HEVC files in the original format.
Will there be an issue playing HEIF photo formats as well?

Hello there. I'm going to purchase the Lockerstor 2 Gen 2 for Plex and file storage/backup for home. A couple fo questions please:
1) It come with 4 gb memory and I can add another 4 gb memory in the available slot, but can I / should I just put in a 8gb SO-dimm since the cost is not that much more. Not sure if I can mis those sizes.
2) For cache, I understand it may improve things but not sure about for my application. If I were to put in a couple of M2 NVMe's can I go small with something like 128 gb (inexpensive), or should I go larger?

I have a laptop I use at home and a smaller laptop that I regularly travel with for work. So far I have kept nearly all my files on both laptops synced to Onedrive (predominantly) and secondarily to Dropbox and Google Drive. Everything is backed up separately so backing up is not an issue. I have now bought and setup a Synology DS720+. I would like to keep the above workflow but at the same time sync the cloud to the NAS. As my data is constantly increasing it will no longer be possible to keep all files on the laptops but I will use selective sync instead. The question is: what is the best way of doing the above:
1) Sync NAS to Cloud and Selective Sync laptops to NAS
2) Sync NAS to Cloud and Selective Sync laptops to Cloud
3) Any other option that manages concurrent sync between all 3 sources?

Keep in mind that my internet speed is 100/40 Mbps (lower at peak times) and that I travel 4-5 months per year so syncing remotely is very important.

I am a filmmaker. I am looking for a solution to store my current and finished projects for long term. Each project varies in size and I cannot foresee the amount of data I might end up with, so scalability is a huge priority. One main question is, is a DAS like the Lacie 6big or a NAS like the Synology Rackstation ideal for my situation? My current setup is I use an edit drive (Lacie D2) which holds all my current projects, then transferred to another external HDD for that particular year. That hard drive backs up to another hard drive and a DIY Unraid server I built (absolutely unreliable). I do not need to access the files that often, but need to store and may need to reuse some of the files in the future for another project. I would also like to archive my personal data along with them.
Is my current setup good as it is? Or is a RAID DAS or a NAS recommended? I currently have no employees and use two computers.
Please recommend an archival solution for me. Thankyou.

Small business looking for an efficient remote and local storage system for our Media Department. I have used Raid enclosures before but not NAS. With my current company, we share assets on Google Drive, WeTransfer, etc. Currently these assets are heavily accessed by myself on site, with 1-2 more editors joining in the future remotely. Additionally, certain assets must be available for sales and other team members, and must be kept apart from the working files for Media Production. I do not need to edit off of the device, though it would be very nice. This will be a central hub for all of our media assets and needs to be secure, would love a cloud-mirroring backup feature of some sort to keep a copy of everything off site in case of fire etc. Primarily Mac users.

Needs:
- Fast
- Reliable
- Multiple users at once
- Easy to use
- Low maintenance

My initial thoughts would be a Synology 4 bay with a few nvme/pcei slots for local speeds. Advice on solutions is appreciated.

Hi Robbie, really enjoy your YouTube videos. I'm hoping you can help me here; I'm stumped. I'm looking for an outdoor camera to monitor a bird nest but can't find a good solution. Perfect world would be Battery powered wireless. Close up ability or good resolution would be nice. Have you seen anything under $100 (or near) that would work? I don't want to buy a "Sync module" or a subscription. I can bend on the subscription rule if it's cheap. The location is fairly dry so an indoor cam would probably work as well. First of all, thank you for helping us! I struggle to find the correct NAS for me and after I have read the articles here and watched a lot of your videos I need some help in order to decide. Here are the key factors in bullets:

- 4 tray SMB storage with RAID 5,6,0,1. No need of fancy equivalents
- I need to run/store photos, videos and files from/to the storage - no need of fancy SW
- The NAS will NOT have any Internet access (isolated by ACLs and PBR). If it does require Internet access, it will NEVER be installed.
- EXT4. No need of fancy file systems
- 4 Gig of RAM with reasonable CPU+GPU imbedded
- Preferably 2x 1Gbit Eth interfaces, may be 1x Gbit interface if no choice
- Low power consumption.
- Support LACP/PaGP

Hi, I am looking to free up space on my MacBook Pro which has 128gb ssd drive always running out of memory. Would like to move everything to a NAS and want to be able to access files and photos quickly and easily when using the mac, I have two users setup on my MacBook and my iMac. Also would like to come away from iCloud and store everything on a NAS with easy access across the apple iOS platform, iPhones, iPad. The wife is not the best when it comes to tech but she needs to access loads of documents, folders that is currently on an EXD 1TB HD. Looking for everything to be in one place and easy to access home or remotely. Look forward to your assistance in this query.

Hi, apologies for the question but I don't understand from the article if i can just move the hdd from my ds414 to my new ds1019+. If not, what do you think would be the best way forward to safely move my data? It's a 6+6+4 shr.
Also I never quite understood the limitations of the 414 (something to do with the 32bit cpu and no support for btrf). Would I be better off creating a new volume on the new nas then move the data via network?
