IP Camera |

Hi. I'd like to add an external security camera to my setup which currently includes a Synology 220+ and a Netgear switch but not one that supports PoE. Does that mean that I cannot use an ethernet connected camera (i.e. I have to go down the WiFi route); or are there some ethernet cameras that can be powered separately to the network connection? Cheers

DAS or NAS |

Hi Team, just wanted to say that you do a great job with the youtube channel, I have learnt a lot.
I wanted to ask for your advice on what would be a better storage solution for my needs - DAS or NAS?
I primarily want to use it for storing movies, TV shows, photos, games, and backing up files.
My main use will be to backup photos and videos from my phone, but I would also like to access those photos and videos through an app on my devices and my PC. It seems that a synology NAS is a good solution due to the software.
I will occasionally stream a movie or TV show through PLEX when at home.
Currently, my PC has two hard drives, one 4TB drive for games and photos, one 3TB drive for movies, music, and TV shows, and one 1TB NVMe for my Windows OS and other files.
I expect to double my storage capacity in about four years with all the photos and videos, but I would like to reduce the number of separate drives and consolidate into perhaps a larger capacity drive.
Thank you again!

Replacing old Qnap 219P |

I need to replace my aging Qnap 219P with 3TB. Preferably, I want to buy a QNAP as I should be able to migrate the drives including data into the new NAS, rather than having to buy a NAS and additional drives before migrating data. New NAS should have 4 bays to leave room for expansion later on - and RAID 10. Primary usage is for backup of files, mostly photos and videos with an occasional video stream to TV. Power consumption ought to be kept low due to rising prices. I am an intermediate user with some skills, but I know I have never used all the features my Qnap offers.

Synology RT6600AX wired networking to (2) WRX5600's |

Hello,
I've purchased (1) Synology RT6600AX and (2) WRX560's. I'm wanting to utilize the Cat6 cable in each room of my home to connect these routers via a wired cat6 network. I know I must go from the LAN of the primary router (RT6600AX) to the WAN ports of the WRX560's. My question is..... Can I utilize a switch in my utility room where all my cat6 ethernet cables come back to? (OR) Does each WAN port on the WRX560 units need to go to a separate dedicated LAN port on the back of the RT6600AX?
Respectfully Requested,
Keith Sawyer

Looking for NAS for our studio |

We're at capacity on our server storage currently so I'm doing some preliminary research in to NAS systems.
We have 30 people in the business, around 15 of which are designers that have files that are a few GB each on the server (a couple of them work with video files which are bigger but we're not a 'video editing' agency so don't have reams of video).
We are moving in to a new office with Cat6A cabling so should be able to support 10G networking for the designers.
Ideally I'd want rackmount for tidiness in our server rack, but could accomodate non-rack mount as well if needed.
We would want to use the cloud sync utility (I've read QNAP and Synology have one) to syncronise a proportion of the folders to Google Workspace. From what I've read the Synology app is better supported but it all seems fairly annecdotal.
Ideally some or all the storage is rapid, for the current design files (typically 3DSMax, Cinema4D, Photoshop or Vectorworks) to have high performance.

HDD drives in new NAS - compatble? |

I am moving my media server to a proper NAS for home use (music/video streaming).
I currently have a 4TB WD Blue drive. I'm thinking of buying a new 4TB WD Red drive, which is more equipped for NAS use.
The two drives differ in RPM and transfer rate. I've not yet decided if I'll utilize RAID to mirror the two; if I do choose to do this, will the different RPM and transfer rate make the mirroring unstable or would I be better off using the two drives as separate storage?

DS1621xs+ M.2 Pools? |

Do you think that Synology will eventually support M.2 pools on the DS1621xs+? I have this device currently. But would consider going to the 1823xs+ if they will never support M.2 on my current device.

Hi Robbie,
I was looking to add 64gb (2x32) to my synology ds3622xs+. Do you have a good set you can recommend. I tried the v-color TES432G26D819K-VC which are DDR4-2666 CL19 ECC SO-DIMM's but the server wouldn't boot. Any suggestions?

Should I Upgrade? And what about SHR? |

Hi!
I love your Youtube channel. I have a 1817+ with 80 TB storage (26 TB used) in SHR-2. My data is work-related backups, important personal info, photos (amateur photographer), and digital media. My HHDs are WD RED Pros, 14-16GB each. RAM is 16GB. Internet is 1GB/s.
A couple questions:
- If the 1823xs+ doesn't support SHR, what should I do?
- When moving data from my laptop to my NAS, 20% of the time it gives an error and I have to re-copy. Especially large files or ones with many sub-files. How do I make it smoother. Transfer rate is ~45-60MB/s.
- Will upgrading to this newer version be much faster?
Thanks!
Jonathan

Sirs:
Sadly I found your Synology configuration after I installed my new SynologyDS1522+.
I am in the process of configuring the system using your instructional videos, but for some reason, the Synology Assistant (now with update) isn't on my computer.
I went to re-install it separately but can't because when I do, the computer wants to install with Adobe Lightroom Classic, which it obviously can't.
I can't get it to download and install DSM_DS1522+_42962.pat). Can you help me with this pls? There will be a cup of coffee in it for you.
I use a MacBook Pro, OS version Ventura version 13.2.1.
Thank you so much.
