  QNAP TS464 or Synology 920+
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-20-2023, 10:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I’m upgrading from Synology ds215j and looking at the above two NAS. I want to be able to store photos and stream then to tv with music and use as a media and general storage platform. I know transferring the current 2x4gb drives across may be easier with another Synology but I’m looking for advice as to my best option of the two above (or others). Thank so much.

1 up Entry level NAS + Amazon AUD
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-20-2023, 03:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Just subscribed to your channel on youtube.
Looking at Synology (after looking at your vid on which NAS after WDMycloud) .
Looking at prices on Amazon AU there is not much between the DS218, DS223 and the DS220+ . Is there any real difference in regard to setup and maintenance of these units?, or do Synology simplify the setup on the entry level device only?
If it comes down to less than $80 and setup software is the same then I'll look at the 220+? Overkill but I like that its quicker and upgradeable and thus a little more future proof. I use multiple devices iPad, android phones, laptop and will put home videos etc on the new device. Appreciate any thoughts you have on Synology mobile ios app
I want to lock the device down to my own network (don't need to access via the internet) do you have a video on how to do this for security?
Also can you add yourselves to AU Amazon so I can earn you some cash when I buy the unit.
Cheers

  Total RAM Size
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-19-2023, 10:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have just purchased the DS920+, am using it as a media server, have ripped all my movies, TV series and as a collector of vinyl records have my collection on. I am using Jellyfin on Docker and stream it to an Android device which also has Jellyfin installed

I know the maximum is 8gb RAM, was wondering what the unofficial storage is

At the moment I have 1 x 14tb Toshiba hard drive (I ordered 4 Seagate 14tb NAS drives), all were duds upon arrival so opted for Toshiba. Am looking at buying additional 14tb Toshiba drives over the next few months. I also have a DAS where I backup to each month

Don't know if you can help but how do you remotely connect to view my media from another location on Jellyfin using the Android device.

If I may also say, have watched quite a lot of your videos on youtube and find it very informative. Many thanks

  DS923+ with 2x ironwolf 20tb Raid 1
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-19-2023, 09:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi!

I'm looking for your advice as I venture into NAS. I've recently purchased (on its way) a Ds923+ for raid 1 configuration simply to backup data with no fear of loss. I'm looking to future proof my initial setup prior to picking up HDDs.

I noticed that seagate 20TB ironwolf pro nor synology DS923+ have each other on their compatibility list, however, I'd really like to put in 2x20tb hard drive into this. Your experience says you've tried 4 x 22tb drives. But, with the 20TB drives not officially supported, how reliable is this sort of purchase? I'm fearful that the lack of support makes this a bad decision. Is it best to choose 2 x 16tb which is 'officially compatible'.

Thanks for your time, love the article and videos! They've really helped.

Will there be a DS424+ with a 'modern' Intel processor
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-19-2023, 08:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I was considering the'new' DS423+ with 6- or
8TB drives. Mainly for Photo storage.

Some of your colleages out there don't recommend DS423+ at all. You are at least giving some pro- and con advises.

Your opinion will be appreciated.

  Files Becoming 0KB
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-19-2023, 02:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

, I Hope you are doing great! I have a big issue with my NAS DS1522+
DSM 7.1.1-42962

Workflow:

15 users Work directly on Synology -They are graphic designers.

I Connected 2 Synology as HAV Cluster and start force the users to work on Synology 3 months back and everything run smoothly and fast with no issues.

Issue: since 2-month files start becoming 0KB as size files like adobe illustrators adobe photoshop
For example one of the users was working on this file yesterday today he told me I can’t open the file due error Can't open the illustration. The file is locked or in use.
ID: -54

I checked directly on Synology and the file is 0KB this is start really scare me because this is our job and our efforts.

I contacted Synology support and he suggested running a deep scan for the disk (health check), and I don’t believe this will do anything only waste time and performance And can you imagine how much time this will take for 42 TB Disks

So, please help, I’m ready to give you a

  Qnap rack NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-19-2023, 11:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi.
I have an Qnap tvs-882 i5-6500 for home use.
My work stuff is all on rack mounted based nas,(all Synology's) and I am looking for an equivalent, either synology or Qnap to go in this rack mount. I cant find any synology rack mount with hardware encoding, so may well be staying with Qnap.
Any advice on which units to look at.
It is primarily used for plex, about 12tb of films, blu rays, photos, and music, with some cctv cameras running, and about 500gig of documents.
is hardware encoding a must, or will something like the rs1619xs+ be capable with software encoding.
When is the RS1623xs due out, and is it worth waiting for....
regards
rob

Films no longer playable on DS1522+
Posted by: smaaskant2000 - 03-19-2023, 10:02 AM - Forum: Home Multimedia - Replies (3)

I have recently replaced my DS415play for a DS1522+. Needless to say, the experience so far has been very good to me.
I have a very nice collection of films that I used to stream to my Samsung TV (through changing the source from HDMI to my NAS), without any problems.

However, I am now facing with problem when I want to watch (the majority of) these films I get an error.

By streaming from my DS1522+ to my Samsung TV, I get the following error: "Check the network connection."

By watching these films on my computer using Video Station, I get the following error: "The video playback failed because the file format of the selected audio track is not supported. Try another available option to see if the file format is supported."

My home videos are being played without any problems.

Have I missed anything in the configuration of Video Station or Media Server on my DS1522+ or are the films simply not playable on my new NAS (and do I have to keep on using my old DS15play for watching my films)?

I would appreciate if anybody has suggestions on how to solve my problem.
