  New DAS setup (DROBO)
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-22-2023, 03:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

i have a drobo 4 bay DAS. I need a new DAS for my plex media. I loved the drobo software that enabled the different disk size and ability of adding a bigger drive later on. Is there any DAS either 4 or 5 bay that you would recommend that could do something like that. If not what would you suggest as an alternative option then.

  Memory Upgrade on 923+
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-21-2023, 06:53 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello gents!

DS 923+ is the machine and pondering of upgrading the stock memory.
I am thinking 16GB on a single module for starter and another 16GB to come in the future.

The question is:
Until all 32GB get to be installed, can I use the stock 4GB memory along with the upgrade of 16GB to total temporarily 20GB of memory or the different size of the modules makes them incompatible?

Would like to have a short reply from you, whenever you get to find some time.
Thanks
Stelios

  NAS Expansion
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-21-2023, 09:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hey Guys!

First of all I want to thank you for your videos, they really help a lot.

And today I am writing you because I have a problem with my NAS, I have a DS918+ with 2TB HDD on each bay and it full, I wanted to upgrade to the Iron wolfs 8TB., but because it is full and usually it is being used by either me or my family to watch Plex movies and series, I do not know what is the best way to replace the drives and expand the storage, so any help I would appreciate it a lot.

Best regards,

Khalid

  NAS Build

Budget includes buying the drives; but I am looking for something to replace and dramatically upgrade my Drobo 5N. I run a business and have tons of client files (images, photoshop designs, videos, etc); but also personally we have all our home movies, photos, etc…I’d like to also be able to use something like Plex to stream those movies to our TV, etc. I’ve watched so many of your videos and I’m torn between all the options. 4 bay? 6 bay? Qnap? Synology? I’m looking for suggestions. Thanks!

  QNAP Multiple RAID
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-21-2023, 01:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (4)

I think I made a mistake when I added a 2nd disc to my QNAP TVS-H874. My first 18tb disc was set at single raid, and I added a second 18tb disc that became raid group 2 (Single). How can I get the new (2nd disc) to be on the same raid group?

Hey. Love your videos! Thanks for all that you do. In your review of the 423+ I couldn't tell if you said you could or could not use a 2.5/5GBe USB dongle with the 423+. I'm assuming you can, since it's the same processor as the 920/1520+.

Also. It has 2GB of ram. I was thinking of just adding a 16gig stick, since its so cheap and I'm assuming it will add a ton of performance. Do you think more ram will help? Or should I just go with a 4gb stick?

I plan to backup my wifes photogrophy all of our iphone photos and videos and run plex/jellyfin.

Bought 4 18TB Hard Drive Exos X18. Plan on running SHR

  SSD Boot Drive
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-20-2023, 06:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi i want to change my 2x 250gb ssd in raid 1/volume 1 config to 2x 500gb ssd in raid 1/volume 1 config. My data is stored on 2x 8tb seagate hdd's as volume 2 and i cant afford to lose the data on these drives. I have heard you can eject these drives chnage over your boot drives and reinsert them with no issues. I just wanted to know if this is the case before i commit to changing my boot drive.

Many thanks.

John

  DX517

Looking into getting the Expansion DX517 by Synology. I cane across this on the page "To have better performance, we recommend creating storage volumes physically located within the same NAS or Expansion Unit, rather than creating volumes across your NAS and Expansion Unit." Can someone explain this in layman's terms? Or point me to a YouTube link?
