which APC UPS connects how on a NAS with only one PSU
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-22-2022, 06:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

When there is no budget for a rackmount NAS, then only one PSU is to be found on the back of a desktop model. What is the advantage of having two PSU's in parallel ? What is the difference ? In emergency situation, power drops anyway, so one needs to count on the UPS in both situations, not ?

Hi, It would be amazing if you can review the Synology DVA1622. You already have made 2 videos in regards to this products, but does not contain the final specifications.

Thanks.

Plex Media Server setup on DS920+
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-22-2022, 03:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

I purchased a Synology DS920+ after watching dozens of NASCompares YouTube videos. Filled it with (4) 18TB WD Red Pro and was able to successfully setup the NAS and load it with some of my media (15TB so far.)

Decided to take on the Plex Media Server (PMS) setup and did all the steps in the video titled "Synology NAS Setup Guide 2022 #6 - Setting Up Plex Media Server Right First Time" including upgrading to Version 1.28.2.6151 I’ve a couple issues afterwards.

1) PMS isn’t pulling icons for the media nor the meta data. If select Refresh Metadata the graphic spins (I’m testing with just 2 movies.) Left it run overnight and it was still spinning in the morning.

2) Pressing play produces "Playback Error - Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install."
I tried renaming the codec directory so it would download a new version. That didn't work. I verified my Netgear R6400 v2 router was using uPnP, I verified the Synology NAS was allowed access, and I am able to view the advertisements when selecting movies from Plex.

At this point I’ve no idea what to try. There’re way too many options in a lot of different places for my photographer mind to figure out. I can figure out a Canon R3 and it’s 1100-page user manual that changes with every firmware release but computer networking is a foreign language for me.

Thanks in advance and enjoy the coffee without a rush. I'm leaving in the morning for a triple booking road trip and won't be back home until October 3.

  TS-453D-8G-US VS TS-464-4G-US
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-22-2022, 12:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

I'm debating the TS-453D-8G-US and the TS-464-4G-US. I'll add the 16 GB to the 464. I don't intend to use it for an NVR as I use a ubiquity setup for that. I mostly want to be able to host files access remotely and expand on PLEX.

replace existing HDD with bigger hard drives on WD NAS MyCloud
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-21-2022, 03:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I followed the process of upgrading the HDD to a bigger one as explained in

I upgraded from 1 TB to 4 TB. Everything works except capacity shows 14.4 GB rather than 3.14 TB. What should I do?

  Migration from ds211j to ds220j
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-21-2022, 12:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (3)

Hi, apologies before I start, I am 80 years old and info takes a little longer to sink in.
Having read all your great info on this subject, I just want to confirm with you that I will initially need a temporary disc in the destination nas (ds220j) to achieve the migration.
Apart from being a SATA disc is there any other spec for this temporary disc.
Cheers and thanks

  NAS for Video Editing
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-21-2022, 09:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Is there a Nas that I could start small and build upon

It's for video editing, so I'm thinking of approx 30GB
(to start with)

with x3 thunderbolt 4 or 10gbit (Mac studios)
and be able to add extra as needed

Thinking of a reasonable starting NAS

  Switching to rackmounted nas
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-21-2022, 07:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am looking to replace/backup my DS1515+ that have the intel Atom C2000 bug fix and is looking at new rack mounted devices.

I am looking at the RS422 and RS819 since budget is tight but a RS1219+ have come up for sale within my budget and I am a bit torn.

The RS1219+ have dual 10gb Nic.

I use it for data storage for my business and will eventually get a few employees but atm it is only me. I plan on keeping the DS1515+ as backup to the new RS.

the RS422 and RS1219 is price roughly the same so
