iscsi drives on pc disappeared |

I set up 3 iscsi drives on my pc windows 11 machine, they worked great. Yesterday I had updates to the pc and the 3 drives disappeared on the pc. On the NAS 1821+ the 3 LUNs show healthy and connected. All 3 have data on them so I would prefer not to delete and start over. Any suggestions on how to proceed getting the drives to appear back on my pc. Thanks

replacement for truenas |

My hobby website creates a lot of small files 20 million in the last year.
Primary storage is 4TB nvme on the server and using truenas as backup, and another truenas as backup to backup, plus blackblaze backup of backup of backup. My server is connected to truenas with 10G fiber sfp+. Needed fiber because db backup took too long.
My truenas was cobbled together using old server and cheapest drives I could find. I am now fedup with truenas sw. Surprized that the cheap hw is not my problem. Little truenas documentation and forums with hostile attitudes. My z2 pool just disappeared today. So a sign I need something new, maybe a little more professional.
Is there a nas that could take the 4TB nvme as a cache and disks for slow storage and support sfp+ port that is more user friendly than truenas? Also use my truenas as back of backup to this new sas.

Help with a Dead NAS on Synology RT2600 |

Please, I need an advice on a problem I have with my Drive that is connected via USB to my Synology RT2600ac router. My drive is a My Book 8TB drive from Western Digital.
I noticed my movies were not showing on my list and I thought some update on the software could have messed up my library. I tried to fix it and add the path for the library but the drive was not showing.
I turned to the SRM in the router to see if the drive was there. But it is not. That is bad.
I'm using SRM 1.2.5-8227 Update 5, when I setup the drive I formatted using SRM.
I think I can't mount it on Mac and Windows.
Is there hope to a fix for my case?

consolidating 2 drive content into 1 drive to then create RAID system |

Hello,
Following up on a previous communication when you gave great advice on how to switch from no raid to raid on my existing server.
Wondering if you can help with the sequence of my specific setup to make sure I don’t blow away any of my existing data. My server is a 2 bay Qnap TS-251-D
Current Setup:
- no Raid
- Bay 1 - 4GB Hard drive
- Bay 2 - 6GB Hard drive
- there is independent data on each drive
Proposed Setup
- Raid
- Bay 1 : 10GB Hard Drive
- Bay 2: 1 TB SSD
Where I’m getting stuck is how do I essentially consolidate by 4GB and 6GB hard drives into 1 10GB hard drive while creating a RAID configuration and not lose any of my data?
Really appreciate your thoughts, thank you so much!!

Hi guys, love your site and videos, well done! :-)
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos on the topic and yet I still pounder on which NAS to choose.
I use the Nas for my family’s personal files, run a Plex server and I will want to use Va for a home assistant servers.
My initial thoughts is that the 1520+ is better for me with the embedded gpu, but I hardly transcode anything.
I’d like the Nas to support 4K hdr for my theater but if I’m correct, as long as the client playing the file does the job, the embedded gpu won’t come into play?
I don’t think I’ll use the 10GB adapter option of the 1522+ for quite a while, but it seems nice to have that option for the future, especially if I wan’t to start doing work from my pc on files heavier directly on the NAS?
I will want to put all my photos on the Nas in replacement of Google photos if it’s nice enough, but I’m not sure the gpu is used in this case, or make significant difference.
I have WD red standard and plus drives so I think I’d be ok either way.
After watching you initial assessments I had set my mind on the 1520. But I now have second thoughts. The 1522 is essentially the same price and I’m struggling to make a definitive choice for my use case.
Would you have any additional recommendation that could help?
Cheers
Cedric

Outdoor camera |

I'm looking for a _reliable_ outdoor security camera. (I have an inexpensive one currently that always seems to disconnect.) Ideally I'm looking for something solar-powered. I do have an outdoor plug, but it would be very easy for someone to access the plug to disable the camera.
Do folks like Synology Surveillance Station, or am I better off getting something highly rated that uses its own software/app with cloud storage? Any specific recommendations? Thanks in advance!

I recently got an ASUSTOR AS5304T and love it. Plex runs wonderfully but I was not expecting the NAS system to be so loud. I only have 2 drives populated, one is an 8TB Seagate Iron Wolf and the other is a Seagate Exos 8TB not in a RAID configuration. Do you have any recommendations for minimizing the sound levels. Most of the time it runs fairly quiet but there are times where it seems like the system is running/processing a lot on the drives even though I am not using Plex or doing any file transfers.
I am mostly using the NAS for Plex and file storage for pictures, documents, videos, etc.

Replacing WD Caviar Green drive |

I have two Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB from around 2011 in Raid 1 inside a Patriot Javelin S4, was used continually for 3-4 years as media stream cloud then occasionally these last years for media backup and storage, not yet to capacity. One drive is now giving me some trouble with some errors and the array has rebuilt now a third time in just a few months with little run time.
I'm weighing my options:, to expand the NAS to 3 or 4 drives and re-map a RAID 5. Or upgrade to a new NAS away from Linux file system as I run windows format in everything else.
Question: What drive should I be searching for to rebuild and expand the array?
Is the newer Red NAS drives sufficient to pair with the old working one or should I be looking to match the old Caviar Green?
Thank you, for your expertise and time.
ps if I were looking for a new NAS system for Raid 5 or 6 what would you recommend ?

I am going to purchase a DS920+ to use to store all of my movies and pictures ... I will start out with 2 10TB WD Red Pro hard drives and I want to get a couple of NVMe cards as well ... could I get away with using the 500GB card instead of the 1TB?
