DROBO FS Replacement |

Hello, I have an old Drobo FS 5 bay that i can now only view on my sons old laptop. Thankfully he is notoriously bad a doing updates so it still allows me to access it. Well as you know a windows security update has basically rendered the DROBO useless. I was therefore wondering what you would recommend to replace it. I would like to be able to access it wirelessly via my smart TV if possible, but it isn't a show stopper if that isn't possible. I have the 5 hard drives currently in my DROBO and a spare 8TB i have temporarily put into my desktop, is there a way to put them into a replacement drive without losing the data? I would be thinking Synology or QNAP i dont know if there is anything else out there on the market which would do the job.
Many Thanks in advance for any advice or guidance that you can provide.
Cheers

Hello there,
i would need your advice for a new and first NAS.
I want it to be:
- relatively small (small house, need to find a place for it, maybe i'll have it stay on a shelf or smth)
- backuping all (2 people) our pc data for safety
- capable of setting up a small film library
- capable of keeping all photo/vids and have them accessible from outside home
- id'd rather have 2 bays than 4, optimal 4TB, excellent would be 6TB
- i would love if it stays cool, now we have 38°C in italy so...
aaaaaaaaaaaaand what else, thank you in advance for your time!

NAS as Plex server |

Hi,
I am planning to built a “home media server” and backup unit.
I want to stream my video library (mostly 4K HDR / ATMOS /DTS contents) to my LG CX tv via Apple TV 4K (1st Gen) and iPad at home. Sometimes (rarely) outside of home it will be streamed.
I will also be backing up my eBooks and work data on that.
I have 100 mbps fiber connection with ISP provided dual band router sitting just below my LG TV.
I am planning to install my NAS unit by the side of the router, beneath the tv.
I have zeroed down to Synology DS920+ for my needs.
I need advice from you whether it will be sufficient for my needs or do I need to go to something else.
If 920 is good enough then do I need to unofficially upgrade to 20 GB ram, as I have read some mixed reactions in Reddit threads. If I have to upgrade then please suggest RAM which are compatible for the same.
And also suggest how should I connect my devices so that best output can be achieved.
And do I need to wait for 922+ release?
Thanking you.

Dear Editor,
HighPoint Technologies, Inc. is committed to innovation. For nearly three decades, we’ve continuously developed cutting-edge storage and connectivity solutions for professional, business and personal applications. As a longstanding, key player in this industry, we feel your audience would be highly receptive to our latest RAID product offerings.
HighPoint Technologies, Inc. is defined as an industry leader. We manufacture and deploy a wide range of NVMe, USB, Thunderbolt™ and SAS/SATA based RAID storage and connectivity solutions for industrial, media and enterprise applications.
Our dedicated, international team of hardware and software engineers and production specialists have over 25 years of storage expertise, and maintain several manufacturing and R&D facilities overseas.
Though not unique to M.2 media, storage aggregation, grouping a large number of individual disks to function as a single device, is a relatively straight forward and simple task for any modern operating system. An M.2 RAID controller makes this even easier.
For example, HighPoint SSD7540 (https://www.highpoint-tech.com/gen4-nvme-m2) PCIe Gen4 and SSD7140A (https://www.highpoint-tech.com/gen3-nvme-m2-non-bootable) PCIe Gen3 M.2 RAID controllers can directly host up to 8 individual M.2 SSDs. These single-width, full-height and full length PCIe cards (about the same size as a modern video card) can be easily integrated into industry standard server and workstation platforms; no additional hardware is required. They can effectively operate as all-in-one NVMe solutions.

Hi!
I love your informative videos but didn’t seem to find one geared toward video editors with specific backup solutions for a NAS at the office and a second NAS at home at home. Im not sure what the safest option for HBS is and I would like to use both to edit. They are Raid 6 and have 80 TB of disks in one and 48 TB of disks in the other. Are you maybe available for a zoom to chat today or another day? More than happy to pay money to do it right the first time. Do you have an hourly consulting rate?
Thanks!

Synology / DSM 20TB support? |

My latest Bluray rips are now 50GB+ w/4K and DTS/HD each, so my needs have increased. Currently my "MediaStorm" is 30TB. Just purchased a Syn1621+ w/20TB Seagate IronWolf Pro, 32G RAM w/2TBx2 NVME. SYN/DSM only recognizes a little under 90T, assuming this is bc the 20's are not yet verified>? I would expect a single disk loss w/RAID5, yielding 5x20T or 100T of usable capacity, I get ~87TB, is this due to DSM? I like the Synology HW, so can i remove DSM and just use FreeNAS or other to get back my 10+ TB? Prior to building my storage pools, docker apps etc, I need to have a good start, and losing 10+ TB from the start doesn't seem right. When will 20TB disks be valid/ verified? There are less than a handful out there, so I can't imagine the SYN team is that busy testing new storage gear, esp if the unit is a "storage" unit, and not just a multi-core server to stack apps on. Looking or a higher yield on my 6x20 base, what to do?";}

DS1522+ vs DS920+ |

Hi Guys,
Thank you so much for the fantastic YouTube content, they are seriously helpful (excluding those dam Seagulls haha).
I have a really quick question in regards to the new DS1522+. In terms of raw CPU power, how does it compare to the DS920+. I will never be using it for plex transcoding but I would love to see a benchmark comparing the two CPUs (single and multi core) For some reason I cannot find any benchmarks for the AMD CPU but there is loads for intel. I'll be using it mainly for running Roon Core (similar to Plex but for music and radio only). I will also be storing files and I may run VMs in the future too. The benchmark would be very helpful... If the AMD CPU is a big difference (excluding GPU tasks) I will be likely to buy the ds1522+ but if it's like 10% difference, I might as well save my money.
I know you currently have the Nas in your office so if you could benchmark the cpu that would be so amazing! (If not, I totally understand)
Thanks again and take care
