| TS-473A vs. DS-923+ |

Hi,
do not have a NAS System yet so thinking about the QNAP TS-473A or the brand new Synology DS-923+ (both with 64-Bit x86). Price difference between both does not matter. After looking at your reviews you may prefer the new DS-923+ and the Synology system - quite a long review on youtube ;-)
Because the TS-464 can handle max. 16 GB of RAM so is out of the scope.
Looking for:
Data storage with 2 x 4-6 TB as a RAID 1
no GPU transcoding needed (at the moment)
Docker with: eg. influxDB, Grafana
Snapshot function
maybe Windows or Linux VM
Do you think the QNAP is too old and there will be a refresh soon?
ZFS vs. BTRFS
GPU can be add later for QNAP
2,5 vs. 1 GbE
4-core vs. 2 core
QuTS Hero vs. DSM
64 GB vs. 32 GB RAM
Seems that QNAP is a bit more open for third party hardware (RAM, M2.SSD, etc.) add-ons? Synology allows their own M2.SSD only.
What do you think?
Thanks for a advice,
Sebastian

Good Day,
Just got a lockerstor 2 gen2 (as6702t).
TBH Thinking of throwing it in the Bin.
We are new to this, it is taking 10+ Hours to Synchronise the 8TB x 2 WD Red Pro Drives - Is that Normal?
So confused about how to actually set it up, and cannot find it on our MAC Newtwork, when we did it said Connection Failed.
Cheers, Nigel

Hi,
Like videos Robbie and Eddie, thank you.
Have some questions after watching your Synology setup guides which am hoping you can answer.
1) Why is there a default admin account in DSM if not to use it
2) When installing DSM it deletes data from hard drive, does this do same when updating to newer version
3) Are Synology able to access/see what data etc is on my NAS
4) How would you setup email for a domain name
5) Synology Photos: When naming people does this create duplicate of photo's so using more hard disk space
Thank you

Right now my current storage solution is a external drive, I've been thinking about getting a raid box as an more redundant upgrade that'll work pretty much the same as my current storage solution while being a bit cheaper than a proper nas. is this a valid idea or should i just spend more and go for a nas? if it's a good idea what suggestions do you have?
thank you for your time.

Hello
for a DS1522+ with 5 WD60EFPX 6TB
The WD60EFPX are 6 TB with 256MB Cache CMR
Are this drives compatible with Synology?
They dont have any reference about it, but the drivers seem to be the new line of WD RED Plus

Hi -
I'm new to all of this and quickly learning. I recently got a Go Pro 11 camera and also purchased a WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra TB. I have a 4k Apple TV as well. I've been able to stream older AVCHD videos without a problem, but I'm having problems streaming the Go Pro 11 HVEC 4k video - the error that I get is that there isn't ebough CPU to support Transcoding.
Given my budget, etc., what do brand/model do you recommend?
Thanks!
Rino Nori

I’ve been using Drobo 5d3 DAS with 30-50 TB and I need to replace it possibly with a 6-8 bay so I have some more storage and back up. I use a 2012 Imac 27" but I will be upgrading once I sort the storage issues with an M1 24”.

Hi Guys
Thanks for your videos and advice and I'm still going through it.
I've a drobo 5D3 and need to replace it with a larger unit.
QNAP sent me this [below link] is it viable Im on a 2012 iMac 27" but will be ungrading to the new 24" M1 when I have sorted the storage problem. This looks to0 cheap and too simple but ...
Thanks in advance. Mick
QNAP has very limited non-NAS devices, this is an expansion unit that may work for you.

Hi I have watched a number of your youtube videos which are great and very informative. I'd like to ask about backup functionality provided by the NAS software platform.
1. Is it possible to point the NAS at a particular folder on another pc/laptop on the same network and have it mirrored on the NAS. e.g. if I configure the NAS to mirror my music folder after I add music files then they appear automatically after the mirror process runs.
2. Could I set the NAS to take overnight backups as straight files and folders for larger amounts of data
3. Can the NAS do incremental/differentail type backups?
4. Is a particular manufacturer (e.g. Qnap/Synology) known for having a stronger platform for this kind of functionality?
much appreciate your help
thanks
