Nas solution for home use |

Hi
This is my first Nas and looking at synology. I will be using it mainly for personal storage for family photos and documents. I am torn between the 920+ and the 420j. I want a 4 bay to give myself more options in years to come as I will have 2 bays initially so the extra bays will help in future.
I believe the 420j will fit the bill but as I cant expand the memory should I pay the extra for the 920+ to future proof myself. What are the expected lifespans of each unit?
Thanks

Good Afternoon, Merry Christmas.
I recently asked about Synology 720+ and the new 723.
From watching your excellent in depth reviews I am of the opinion that Synology products are by far more 'secure sophisticated and indeed somewhat more professional' compared to QNAP especially after their Ransomware issues!
QNAP - offer newer products save for the on the horizon Synology 723. Yet if I bought the 720+ I presume adding the extra 4GB of RAM would be beneficial if not essential!
Looking in detail at Qnap I can see three models that look like they will do the job -
1. QNAP TS-253E-8G 2-Bay NAS Enclosure w/ 2 x M.2 PCIe Slots (8GB RAM). -HEAVY POWER CONSUMPTION
2. QNAP TS-264 Intel quad-core dual-port 2.5GbE NAS supports M.2 SSD caching and PCIe expandability for high-speed transmission and virtualization applications. HEAVY POWER CONSUMPTION
3. TS-253D Quad-core 2.5GbE NAS for professionals
Still confused, Synology or Qnap?
Thank You in advance, SIncerely, NIGEL HOWARD

Hello,
Looking for the fastest NAS to look through very large photography libraries in Lightroom with very large files. I currently have a DS1815+ and looking to upgrade. Have a 2.5GB switch as well.
Thank you!

I've interpreted from the Plex H.265 discussion that running 10 security cameras with H.265 compression, that the CPU use with the 923+ would be high and choke my NAS from other operations like watching a large 1080P file, especially if using H.265. Correct? If so, this is a deal breaker for me and I'd think many others.

Is it the upgrade needed for me |

I'm considering the 920+ to simply upgrade my video library to 4k to watch via Plex and then use the NAS for general file storage. Can I get away with one slot 8GB? Or do you think I need to go through the unofficial upgrade?

Hello, I would like to set up a NAS system from my home so 2 other people can log in too. We use Davinci Resolve and can share time-lines through their cloud service. I have 35.8 Mbps internet speed through my TalkTalk internet provider. I have around £2000 to spend and would like a 4 bay system with 48Tb or more. Do I need a 10gbe system. What would you recomend. Thank you
Kind regards
Billy

TerraMaster NAS setup & use with Apple MAC Ventura OS |

HELP! I just purchased the NAS & I need information for how best to set it up for TimeMachine, additional network storage, etc... with an M1 iMac with Ventura OS
1) Is there a resource for Apple Users to know the best way to set this NAS up i.e. to get answers to choice of formatting (RAID, APFS, ext4, btrfs)?
I stumbled thru the TerraMaster setup & feel I need to reinitialize the NAS & start over... The Apple Finder application doesn't appear to work with the NAS as it does with other external hard drives, USB, etc
2) How can I do a fresh start of the NAS install & set up to optimize its functionality with an Apple iMac using the Ventura OS?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I just replaced my two bay Synology with a 4 bay QNAP. I'd like to use the Synology to back up important data from the QNAP. All I can find is how to backup Synology to QNAP! I've tried doing the reverse but I cannot get it to work. Are there any guides to do QNAP to Synology? I can't find anything anywhere.

I have over 1300 CD's and probably over 100 DVD's.
we've recently purchased a second 85"screen 4K TV.
we want to be able to watch movies and maybe be able to watch them on our tablets one thing I would love to try would be to share my collection with my family so having 1 that can allow me to connect and share over the Internet would be spectacular.
I also would be very happy to look at building a NAS myself I have a X570 Asus board. I also have a case.
Is this something that would make more sense? Im down with building it myself.
OOOOPs, I got sent to this link from your video where i liked and subscribed....and i hit send before looking at the rest of your site, so now I'm researching there, sorry I'll go away now....
