NAS for backup and Storage

I would like to take what I have in the cloud storage and have it local. My google drive is about 10gb, and microsoft one drive about 15gb. I would also like to use the NAS for storing Steam games that way I do not need to always download from Steam, they can be local. Also for a PC and mobile phone backup. I do have some media and a plex server might be nice. I am looking at 32tb of storage, 2 segate exos drives to start off. 2 users would be using it. I plan on spacing out getting the components a few months apart.
Thanks!

BEST UPS for NAS that is compatible

Hi gentlemen,
have been researching UPS to use with a QNAP TS-453D and a Mac Studio with Samsung 34inch curved monitor plus some external hard drives.
I am looking something that will power the NAS long enough to shut down safely. I’m normally at home so the Mac Studio is only on when I’m there. I have looked at the QNAP compatibility list and much seems outdated, not available in the UK etc. As it is a Mac Studio and has a different power cable I assume I need a UPS with a UK 3 pin plug. Unfortunately as I said earlier I live in NI so Amazon will not send UPS items/batteries to NI. I saw someone ask on one of the videos a similar question relating to the NAS but I could not see the reply, so I’m shouting out here to see if you can help.
Kind Regards
David.

I am looking to buy this unit. I have already bought 5 16TB drives built for NAS use.
With the understanding that the first Storage Pool that you create is where the Applications get installed, I was intending to buy 2 1TB NVME m.2 drives to mirror. However, I initially was interested in have the m.2s provide caching. Which is more important? The applications on SSD or the SSD being used for caching
I will be using this unit for multiple purposes, such as an iSCSI for my Desktop to replace the RAID5 I have in the non-Server desktop (lost a drive 1 time and it took 30 days to rebuild, ugh.) I also look to provide a thin volume for each of my family to use as an off-site backup. I will only do this if they can be created where I have no access to their data. Is that possible?
Should I make the RAID5 be with 4 drives and have the 5th set as a hot-spare? (I think it will be years before my family and I could use up this much space. If I find us getting close to it, could I add an additional drive and expand the RAID5?
Do I have to have a router to handle the 10GBe? Or can I plug directly from a 10GBe NIC on my desktop to the 10 GBe NIC I install on the unit and have the unit connected to the general network via the 1 GB port?
Sorry that the questions are not in a list format. I typed them as I thought through what I wanted to type. Feel free to extract the questions when placing on the Q&A Forum.
Thanks, and I watch your Youtube shows all of the time.
Joe

For a LAN internet connection can I connect a Synology DS920+ to a router extension. I have a Deco AXē400 router that comes with a 2nd router extension that I have in a separate room from the main router. This extension has a LAN input. Will the DS920 work with this connection as the extension is not the primary router.

Hi.
Regarding the video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5y9BDkwHmQ ) and post ( https://nascompares.com/guide/truenas-core-on-an-asustor-nas-installation-guide/ ).
I bought a Asustor Lockerstore 4 (AS6604T) mid 2021 and the first thing I tried was booting it with a Ubuntu 21.04 live CD and eventually installing. Most things worked fine except from the LCD display, the fromt panel buttons and the fans (haven't tried since, though).
Which device did you install on? And did you experience the same issues? If so, did you manage to solve it?

Hello, I already have a QNAP NAS (TVS-EC1080+) that i have had for years now. It hosts my data and also plex plus plex content. It currently has 9x16TB ironwolf pro hard disks in a RAID6 configuration.
Obviously, it's now getting quite old in terms of Transcoding, and I am planning to upgrade to the TVS-h1688X.
Now I am aware of the advantages of the QUTS Hero OS however with my current 16TB disks, I would rather not have to purchase new expensive drives in order to migrate so i am thinking to install the standard QTS on the new NAS and ensure the old NAS is running the same release and insert the old/current disks into the new NAS with the same disk sequence. Have you seen or heard this done successfully? I have googled to no avail.

NAS upgrade / RAM

Hello,
I came across your YouTube channel, and it has been a great source of knowledge -thank you for sharing your time and knowledge on there.
You mentioned in your videos to contact you with regards to getting some advice...
I am looking to upgrade my DS1513+ to a DS1522+ (or a DS1621+).
As well as hosting my source files I want to be able to run docker images on it (about 10 initially).
The DS1522+ come with 8gb memory on it and I was thinking of expanding that to 16gb by getting another RAM module -as well as adding some NVMe SSD drives for the Cache.
Some questions...
1. Which is the best third-party RAM that works with the DS1522+?
(I thought maybe the Kingston ECC 8gb -but it links to Crucial RAM instead)
2. Can I mix the memory -or should I get 2 x 8gb that are from the same brand ?
3. I was thinking of getting a couple of WD Red SN700 1tb (raid1) for the cache -would you recommend them -as well as the size?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Pete

Sorry in advance for the long message.
I will be building a NAS soon to connect to a processing server via 10gig networking. I need 132TB minimum of usable space. Currently, I am looking at Synology devices since the end users are already comfortable with that software and I will not be able to support them well where this NAS/Server is going. At first I was looking at the FS3410, intending to fill it with 7.68TB SATA SSDs. But I noticed on their compatibility list there was not that many options. Looking through the compatibility list, I saw the FS3400 come up often, even though it's an older model not listed on their site anymore. Is there any real difference between these?
The Micron 5300 PRO SSD ($800 7.68TB ea.) I saw were compatible with the FS3400 but not the FS3410. One plan is to use these in the FS3400 using RAID F1 (essentially RAID 5 but for SSDs). Another option was to get their 16 bay RS4021xs+ and buy 18TB 3.5" HDDs and use RAID 10 for better speed and fault tolerance. HDDs are not ideal because this will have to be a somewhat portable server, being loaded onto and off of a boat (shock absorbing portable rack), but if that's the best option then it is what it is.
The (tentative) plan is to have 64GB RAM on the NAS regardless of the option.
The processing they will be doing is loading many many small <100MB image files from the NAS to use in machine learning algorithms (through 10gig sfp+ expansion cards w/ 10gig switch). Probably in the hundred thousand file range. I don't think they will have to access them all at once but it will likely be as many as possible.
I highly appreciate any advice you can provide, typically I do not use Synology for NAS solutions so I'm a bit out of my depth in terms of their compatibility etc.
