What is the best nas for Plex use for home use but also for approx 12 guest access use where transcoding is required occassionally. Most users on at the same time will never be more than 3 users

I'm currently looking for 2 different NAS systems that will be for 2 different purposes:

1 Startup: Should contain atleast 4TB of replicated storage, with upgrade capabilities. I was thinking myself for the Synology 420+ (with 2x 4tb disks) as it is it also looks easier for users to use but i'm not sure if it would be the right choice.

2 Plex: Should contain atleast 24TB and is mainly used for streaming. I want it to replace a very energy greedy server that currently has 8x 4TB disks in a ZFS pool. I don't mind to change to btrfs if that has a more ecofriendly system.

I now have an DS1821+ populated with 8 pieces of 4 TB WD red.
This as an backup for my 2 pieces of 8 TB drives in my pc.

Now in my new pc don't want any HDD's

So i am into buying a 2nd Synology NAS as a backup for my DS1821+. this has 8 GB mem an an double 10GBit intel card inside

But witch one Synoly to choose?

So you video on multiple smaller drivers or bigger makes my more insucure.

I have a Drobo 8D with 8 - 16TB hard drives with the Thunderbolt connection.  

Are there any NAS out there with 8 bays + thunderbolt connection.

I want a good unit from a company that will be around for a long time and provide updates for Mac OS.

I am not happy about Drobo not providing support and firmware updates.

I need to find a new backup solution before I lose all of my files.

Last year I purchased a DS1520+ to upgrade to from my Drobo 5N2. I only now have the funds to purchase the HDD's and any upgrades to finally make the transition. What HDD/RAM or any other upgrades would you personally recommend for my setup? It will predominantly be used for media. Thanks for any help you can provide.

How do I configure QuMagie to process that? Maybe you've dealt with this with women who change their last name for marriage. This is just a bit more complex.

I've got a Synology DS918+ setup with 4x16TB Iron Wolf Pro HDDs on a RAID5 setup. I recently bought 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB PCIe M.2 NVMe SSD for caching in order to speed up my Plex Media Server metadata loading times. When I initially installed them, I observed a speed up in loading times, however it is now back to the slow loading times that I was experiencing them before.

Is there anything that I need to do other than installing the drives and setting up the drives as Cache devices? How can I speed up the loading times?

Looking for a nas that has useful features and is for both home and small business. Plex or media storage is an added bonus.

Personally found QNAP TS 464 4G, DS920+, DS923+, ...
but wanting to be sure I make the right decisions because it is my first time buying a nas. What would you recommend or are there also other possibilities I have not seen yet?

I am thinking buying the QNAP TS-431P3, wihich has a 32bit CPU 4 cores..
For mostly streaming of 4K HDR and storage.
But if you wanna recomend me some other NAS, maybe Sonology or somethig, in the same price range , that is great.

I think synology DiskStation® DS418 might be an option..
with quadcore 64bit CPU .
what would you choose my friend ?


But it really needs to be able to play 4K HDR10 smooth...
I am now using a TS-251+ I have some issues sometimes with lagging etc..

Quick question. I've got an old ASUStor AS5002T which is used for home use with 2 WD 4Tb reds. It's 7 years old and needs to be replaced. I'm looking at either the QNAP TS233 or TS251d. I'm planning on using 2x 8Tb Toshiba n300 drives. I use it for my movies in MP4, loads of mp3s, and some photos and other stuff. Which do you recommend and are the drives good for the NAS?
