Synology NAS Refresh |

I am using an old SYNOLOGY 4 bays DS411j with 8 Tb of storage. The system is configured in RAID 0 and all content is backed/synchronised nightly on a 8Tb USB drive using Hyper Backup. The system is for home use with only one user accessing the NAS from different devices.
I would like to upgrade to a newer Synology NAS probably with 2 or 4 bays with 30 Tb in a JBOD configuration and also nightly backups to USB drives. The device will be used to store files and possibly running a few docker applications. Could I start by purchasing a NAS with one large HDU drive and then add further drives without loosing existing data?
Can I also use non NAS drives?
I used to have a RAID 5 configuration, but as I have frequent backups and I can afford the downtime to replace a faulty drive from the backup, is it still advisable to use JBOD or RAID 0 to maximise the disk usage?

Hi,
I'm an absolute fan of your channel and the content that you make.
I was just wondering whether or not I can use Kingston KSM26SED8 2666MT/s DDR4 ECC CL19 SODIMM 2Rx8 16GB in my yet to buy DS923+ without any hassle. The Syno tax on 16GB sticks is 300% compared to this one....
In your table it says it this memory will not give a warning, will Synology also not be able to detect that you're not using their Syno sticks?
Thanks

I have a Synology DS420+ and am trying to set-up remote file access on a Mac using finder without success. I am beginning to question if it is possible with the Amplifi HD router I have. Do you have any suggestions or a recommendation for a new router? Thanks.

Hi, I have a QNAP TS464, all been working fine until this evening when it warned me about running out of Snapshot space. I then recevied warmings about the Datavol1 being unmounted. I have tried to check the file system but it fails after 1%. Tried restartig numerous times but that doesnt help. There is a red light on front of the NAS, top light. The NAS is about 2 months old and in good health. How do I remount the DataVol please?
Would really appreciate some guidance.
PS, Im not that IT savvy.
Thank you

I have a DS923+ with two computers and multiple smart phones on my local network. Do you have a best practices description for a disaster recovery plan. I can follow your description of USB Copy to backup the contents of the NAS. I want to know the best way to prepare for what happens if a fire destroys my home? I can buy another NAS, but how do I easily restore all accounts, configurations, and data (docs, photos, videos, etc.)? Is there a way to create some sort of boot medium for complete restoration?
