Gentlemen,
He: Is the DS218+ a replacement for the DS-1816+?
I have been watching NASCompares videos literally for years, watching those videos, influenced my purchase of all the equipment mentioned in this correspondence therefore, it's no coincidence that I should turn to you for advice.
I purchased the following equipment before being deployed to Afghanistan from my military service.
By the time I returned home, most of the hardware I purchase before my service has been upgraded by the manufacturer to different models.
I have a Synology DS-1816+ with Max DD4 RAM attached to 2 x DX-517 Expansion enclosures, all drive bays are populated with x 16 Seagate Iron Wolf 12 TB Drives.
Synology's installation also had the following complementary hardware added to the above:
1 x Synology's10 Gigabit Ethernet Card
2 x Synology's M-2 500 Mb
1 x E10M20-T1

Want a specific device, but don't know who makes it. IF it is even made. Cant find it yet.
What I want:
Rackmount NAS device. 1U. Maybe 2U but can't believe it really needs to be bigger than 1. Cooling maybe...
NVMe M.2 drives (4+) WD makes them (reds), but what does one put them in?
SFP+ for 10G connectivity to the network
What I Don't want:
Platter Drives. What is this 1999?
Desktop box. I have enough crap on my desk. There is a reason we have racks! I don't need to hug it. I need to put it in the closet and lock the door!
Beehive sounding fans. Yes, it needs to be cooled, yes it will be shut in the closet, but still don't want the noise. (I had a server years ago that was really loud...sold that piece of junk a month after I bought it. It was so loud, I could hear it through the walls)
Nice to have but at this point unnecessary: A+B PSU. I dont have redundant power at the office, so... unless I put it in a data center, not necessary.
Thoughts?

Hi there, I have QNAP ts-469 pro, coming up to 10 years old. Historically I've used it for storage, streaming and some NVR...a few years ago it started playing up, wouldn't install so I just left it doing what it was doing. I'm now considering replacing it after wiping and rebuilding. My priority is storage (family files), I already have disks, next is to store my old website on it which was vbulletin 4, php and mysql...which was last used in 2016 and know some of the newer versions of those apps wont support. Then comes NVR and finally streaming...I'm stuck to be honest, I've looked at Synology and Qnap and it's a minefield....any suggestions appreciated. Many thanks

Good day
I came across your youtube chanel and thought to reach-out. I am working from home. I have a variety of external hard drives and usb devices as well as One Drive and Google Drive as well as iCloud Storage as well.
I am looking for a solution to put all my data in one place for personal (my wife and I) and also for my business.
I do have a Zapitti player and apple TV, but dont really do any videos on my nas. I also have a HP Proliant server that is in excess of 10years old and dont really use that that often.
I need something that is simple to use and that wont break the bank.
I also want to ensure that my data is safe.
I started exploring the raspberri pi with a hdd, but it started to get a bit complex to me...
Any advice?

I have been looking for a 5G router and have found your reviews very helpful. Have you/do you have any plans to review the Nokia Fast Mile which I only very recently came across. It's price point makes it a very attractive option but there is relatively scant info/review material. One thing (almost) never mentioned is the model number of the Snapdragon chipset (if used). Ideally I am looking for an X65 based router.
Many thanks and keep up the good work.

Hi, I am the IT guy for a small convenience store chain (18 stores). Years ago I put in a WD 4TB My Cloud as a file server and it has done a great job but is aging. By trade I am a programmer and not an engineer. Everything that I know about server, network, hardware and database administration has all been learned on the job here over the last 7 years. I am not scared to admit that when it comes to purchasing an upgraded file server I need some advice. I am aware that a NAS does so much more than just serve as a file server but at the moment that is all we are needing. Any advice that you can give for a decent NAS upgrade that has great raid capability would be much appreciated

Hello sir,
Since I have decided to buy a NAS for home use, I have got precious information from your YT channel (numerous hours watching time)!!! I appreciate your time and effort to pass your knowledge and expertese to others!
So, my final decision goes to Synology DS923+ populated with 4X16TB HDD disks.
I am looking towards the following HDDs:
1) Seagate Exos X18 ST16000NM000J
2) Toshiba Enterprise Capacity Series MG08ACA16TE
I have chosen these, as they are the most VFM in Greece at this moment on the size.
Larger will go much higher on price, smaller no discussion.
My question is which one would be the most compatible to use on the picky Synology systems?
I am looking forward to reading your short reply on my question.
In the meantime I will search the sources you have quoted for more info but hopefully, you will be able to reply to me.
Thanks
Stelios

I am struggling with deciding between a new NAS as a first time buyer. I've narrowed it down to four options - Syn 1522+, Syn 1621+, QNAP TS-646, and QNAP TS-673A.
I have a couple of EXOS 12TB drives that I would like to use and the flexibility of SHR is appealing for future expansion with larger HDD's within the unit. However, the lack of it being on the compatibility list for the 1522 is raising a red flag for support down the road.
The 464 is an appealing option, particularly with the 2.5gbe connections, but I would be tied to filling the NAS with 12tb drives if I stick with the HDD's I have, and the security issues of the past cause me pause a bit.
Then, there is looking at that next tier with 1621+ which is compatible with my drives but seems like I am paying more just to make sure my drives work (and hope that Syn doesn't drop them later). At which point, the 673A becomes comparable with specs and internal expansion.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
