Ds723 vs ds720 power efficiency |

When compared to the ds720, which is best on purely power usage over a 24/7 period?
I am looking at a 2 bay solely to run my ip cameras 24/7. My 1821 would do everything else. So I'm happy to get the 723 (as the newer unit) if power consumption between the two is negligible.
But if not, maybe the saving in electric would make the 720 worth it for me.
Finally, do you know when we will be able to buy the 723 in the UK?
Thank you.

Hello, I am searching some home NAS solution to be used as a backup for my photographs, device backup (Windows PCs, iphones, ipad), running homebridge for smart home and multimedia center (partially). I was thinking about synology DS+ line but I have no clue which model (2 vs 4 bay, which line - 2xx, 4xx, 720, 723, 920, 923). I would probably start with 2 8TB HDDs (depends on the price and NAS model). Thank you very much for your advice. BR, Petr

NAS for Plex on Proxmox |

Hello NAS Compares,
After 10/11 years of service it is time too replace my DS412+ and DS1813+. After watching your videos I cannot choose between the rs422+ and rs822+.
Drive, Filestation and Photostation are the only applications i use on DSM. My plex server runs on an intel NUC in an proxmox container. That's why i don't think much RAM or CPU is Needed for the NAS.
I was planning too get 4x16tb disks. The 12 WD Red drives (4x2tb and 8x3tb) I use have been working for years with no problems. Do i need the WD Reds or is there a better alternative.
Synology has shown reliability over the years. that's why I don't want to change brands.
regards,
Luuk

Hello, I recently purchased a Synology DS420+ NAS and filled all four bays with WD Red Plus NAS 6TB HDDs. Also bumped up the RAM to a total of 18GB given my need for a VM. Other NAS needs are basic file serving, Apple Time Machine backups, Plex Media Server to encode my small DVD library, and 1 or 2 Windows VMs. I got most of this setup and running fine, but what has disappointed me is the dysfunctional slow operation of the Windows VMs. I tried a Windows 10 and Windows 11 VM setup, and they are basically so slow, can't be used. Others on the forums have suggested using TeamViewer instead of a browser for RDP to the NAS. Only problem, my clients are all Macs and only PCs will work with TeamViewer to remote desktop to the NAS. I guess I didn't do enough research on the specs needed for VMs to run on the NAS. So I'm at a crossroads, do I return the DS420 while I still can and spend a bit more to be able to run the Windows VM on the NAS or abandon the VM idea on NAS? Thanks

How helpful is SSD Storage Pools |

Hello, I am considering the Synology DS923+ and DS1522+. I know the differences from your videos. As of today, is there any definite answer on whether DS1522+ will have SSD Storage Pools support? Given everything the same, how much performance gain can we expect with SSD Storage Pools enabled in use cases such as: overall performance, backup, file sharing, Synology Photos? I don't use docker nor VM.

Myself and my fiance' currently use idrive to back up our photos/videos from 2 cell phones and 1 computer at a yearly cost. I have watched quite a few videos but it seems the more I watch the more confused I get with this or that. So, I am basically looking for something that can back up a ton of pictures and videos from 2 cell phones and a computer or 2 (May add later) that we can remote access and password protect each account and or/user. What Ram and how much, what brand of drives maybe 8 to 16TB or more? My apologies if I sound confused or clueless but, I am kind of! haha..
Thank you,
Randy

Synology EOL models and when they stop producing them |

Hey there,
I'm curious to know if Synology would continue to produce something like the DS220+ after the DS223+.
There is evidently a market for the difference. DS223+ is a downgrade for video and transcoding.
I am looking to get the 2-Bay for storing and sharing photos and videos taken with a Go pro for the most part. So I'm not sure if there is an advantage to go with the newer model or not. And at the moment the DS220+ is going up in price.
