Plex NAS Help |

I've been casually in the market for a NAS for about a year. I thought I had settled on the DS920+, but ended up opting to wait to see what the 923+ would offer.
Thanks to your excellent videos, I'm now overwhelmed with choice.
I need help choosing a NAS (almost entirely for Plex) with the following needs:
- Access: It needs to serve varied devices (WebOS, Android, GoogleTV, and iOS) so likely need transcoding
- Drives: I'd like to load my existing drives (an 8 and 3TB) and upgrade in the future. 2-4 bays tops
- Noise: It's going to start it's life in our living room, so low noise is key
- Size: No bigger than the 920+ or 6704t
- Software: Needs to support Docker for Sonarr and Radarr
- Color: Black due to location above
I intend to maintain a cold backup via USB, so very limited RAID needs. Any ideas?

Which Nas to Buy |

Is there a Nas that is just strictly for storage? I don't need all the bells and whistles. My computer edits 4k video just fine and I work on projects on my own so I don't need sharing options and I dont need to edit from the nas. I mainly just want redundancy that automatically makes back ups of all my work so I dont have to manually copy my work onto random external drives. If possible I want to avoid connecting to internet to avoid the possibility of viruses and things such as deadbolt. I would prefer a 4 bay, maybe 6 bay. Thank you for allowing us to ask you questions like this, much appreciated

if yes what RAM models will work with ts-253d-4g ;;;

Windows 11 trouble |

Small problem
Want to run Windows 11 Pro on my new DS1522+ 8GB RAM with 3x8TB drives.
I follow you instructions, although I allocate 5GB RAM 4 cores to and 500GB disk space for Windows 11 -That should be enough, I do plan to get some more RAM installed when there is a good bargain.
I go all the way through and when I have to install I get the information "This PC can't run Windows 11"
The ISO is brand new never used or activated Win11_22H2_English_x64v1.iso
So wonder if you have any idea/advice on what to do or I just wasted my money [...] -I'am a Mac user :-) I need to run some software on Windows and would like to get away from Parallel Desktops, so thought a NAS would be the way so I also can do proper backup.
Enjoy your channel and it was the decision maker on which NAS (if any) I should buy and I enjoy the seagulls.
Thanks, and regards
Kim Kaare

Synology DSM 7 initial admin account |

I am watching your Synology NAS Setup Guide on YouTube. During the initial setup you create an admin account with a name different from admin. You called it adm1n. Later during the user creation you see the adm1n account as status normal as well as the System default user admin as status disabled. If you call the admin account admin during the first screen will the Ssytem default user admin be the Status normal account or will it create a duplicate admin?

Best Budget NAS for file sharing outside of family |

Hi,
I am looking for a NAS to essentially replace Dropbox. It will be mainly used for photos and files. It won't be required to stream movies so I assume a hefty processor isn't neccessary.
An essential is the ability to give read and write access to folders to users outside of our family. We regularly share folders with friends on holiday so that everyone can upload photos. Dropbox has a useful feature that allows you to share a link to others which gives them read and write access and we basically need the same.
I've come across the WD My Cloud Home but I don't think this allows external users to have write access. I've also seen the WD My Cloud EX2 but I am unsure if this has R/W access without knowing the friends' MyCloud password to add them as a user via the admin account which is not an option really.
Additionally, Synology always comes out on top when looking at rankings but I'm unsure if those are overkill for what we need.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks,
Leo

Which synology NAS |

Hi,
I am trying to decide between the Synology DS120j and 220+. My use case will be for photos, movies, documents (currently all saved to separate external hard drives and/or dropbox). It's for personal use only. I would like to be able to access the data from my Mac, iPad, iPhone but not have to store it on those devices (the reason being to centralise all data and not have it scattered across devices, drives and dropbox), so would need an additional back up, either in the form of a second NAS or external hard drives. I do not want to use services such as dropbox for backups (I currently do, but want to stop using them).
A friend of mine is using the 118 and recommended that one, so that would be another option.
The cheaper the better, but I'm ready to spend a little more if it is actually the better solution for my case.
Thank you very much in advance!! And let me know if you require additional info.
Best,
Gioia

Looking to expand my PS5 SSD. Watched your video on the 5 recommended SSDs and have gravitated to the Nextorage 2 TB which is currently on offer for $189.99 USD.. My question is would you purchase this SSD with the included heat sink OR instead go with the Rocket Sabrent heat sink that with the custom PS5 cover? Purchasing the Rocket heatsink/cover is only $10 more.

i have watched many of your videos but still cannot decide on the nas for me
and in the past i had a western digital my cloud 4tb nas
this met all my needs in a single disc config until wd made the product end of life
on new device i will place all file types on new nas as before
but this time round i want to take cine films and digitise them and also my dv videos from holidays on video camera
i would edit on laptop and copy finished video to nas, not edit from nas
after i have them as digital video files (not 4k) i want to place them on nas to watch on my phone or smart tv
i would also like to share the films out via a shortcut to my family
so they can access my nas on their smart tv and play movies they may be in from 40yrs ago
i could do this in past with wd my cloud
i have shortlisted to qnap ts-233 or synology models ds218,ds218 play,ds220+,ds220J
but i do not want to pick a device that may be end of life soon on error
was going to add seagate ironwolf 4tb disk (x2)

The Virus is IN the Updates ! |

Just FYI : I Manually downloaded some Terramaster updates on my PC, directly from the Terramaster website, planning to manually install it to the Terramaster. My Antivirus immediately quaranteened the downloaded Terramaster update file, the build includes the randsomeware software in one of the installed update programs. The Virus was preinstalled in the update, coming directly from Terramaster's own servers.
I went back and forth with Terramaster, warning them the randsomware is coming directly from their own software builds. Terramaster doesn't believe the screen shots, files, and data I sent directly to them from their own software !
SO: Step 1: DO NOT download updates directly into your Terramaster. STEP 2: ONLY download Terramaster software to your PC first, scan it completely, and ensure it passes all tests before use.
