2 bay NAS, use 1 drive at first then add another later.
Use for music library, networked with a BluOS PowerNode music streamer.
About 10 TB total storage.
Not for streaming video.
I have WD 10 TB external hard drive for backup.
I have some HD drives of various sizes (8 to 12 TB) I could use.
Can't afford "Big Bucks"
Many thanks

I currently run OMV on ultra SFF PC with main goal to serve as Time Machine backup for 2 Macs. I used to use it for photos, but run out of space and gave up. Main reason of change is energy efficiency (PC has 65W TDP chip) and capacity upgrade (from 1 to 2 TB). Question - is there any reason to opt for DS223 instead of DS220+ (like power consumption, performance, noise, future software support) as price difference is negliglible for me now. I have no needs for media server, cameras nor VMs. Photos plus Time Machine (not eve file sharing). I will install 2x2TB SSDs as noise is very important. Alternative for me is new micro PC with passive cooling and OMV or QNAP 233.
P.S. I used to ask you for business advice (NAS for Video Editing) and it worked out great - we got this QNAP machine (TVS-h1688X-W1250-32G) and did some nice projects using it. Thanks!

Hi,
Luv the videos on synology, please keep them coming.
Trying to set up back up rotation using hyper back up. I go to the section where I have to choose from earliest, smart recycle or customised. Files dont change that often so leaning to customised retention option.
Under settings, what do these do?
Duration Version Interval
From the earliest 1 week
1 month 1 day
1 day 1 hour
Also, what number should I set the kept versions?
I am getting confused, thinking of daily backups for the week then a weekly backup held for 30 days.
The Enable integrity check schedule, how often would you recommend this be run?
Any help or ideas welcome, looking for the best backup strategy to keep my data safe.

Hello, thanks for your work, very informative.
I want to change old NAS on DS 923+ or DS1522+ to use in a small office (10 users). I think about 1 SATA SSD RAID 1 (not Synology NAS edition SSD) for sharing folders and one HDD RAID1 or RAID5 for backups (data from NAS and users OS). What you can recommend about SSD SATA RAID 1 on Synology NAS? Do you have information about use SSD not from Products Compatibility List in Synology NAS DS 923+ or DS1522+? Many thanks.

I had a DS218play until. Was OK but slow so I wnat to upgrade.
I'm building my house and will get it for december 2023.
(So I can wait until then if needed)
I can rack mount the NAS, so it's the prefered form factor, but it is not mandatory.
users : 14 , (no more than 2~3 simultaneous)
synology photos, audio/video station, network files share is the main use
planed array : SHR1 (3x8TB) -> I want to be able to do Data Scrubbing
I'm thinking of getting the RS1221+ OR RS822+. what do you think ? Any better recomandation ?
Thank you

Hello,
I found Robbie's video https://youtu.be/zNyTasDcVVc
Synology 2020 NAS Plex- First Time Setup Guide with DS420+
I planned on getting a DS1520+ but when it got delivered to me, I found it was swapped out with a DS1522+. I looked around and it seems that the tvs-h674 would work. Is there a different video or another setup guide that you recommend, how much different is setting up QNAP? Are you on Discord?

Hi
I’m looking for an idiot proof NAS to store my photos on, also my music with the ability to use Google home. And Time Machine backup. Also access to my iPhone iPad
I’m 68 years old and was using a Drobo but it’s gone wrong with no support.
I want to keep the price down but need somewhere to save my data.
Many thanks
Duncan
PS really enjoy your videos and it would seem synology is easier to use than Qnap

Hello,
I'm a little confused by all the actuals NAS models, although I have a preference for Synology (desktop models - matter of space).
We currently use two Synology DS413J, but it has become very slow to work directly with documents on these models.
I'm looking for advice on buying a NAS (file server) to act as a file server mainly for hosting desktop publishing documents (Mac OS X - Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and related elements (illustrations, PDF, etc.).
Which model do you think is the "right one" for this purpose and what would be the options to consider if necessary (network card, ethernet switch, cache memory, RAM, etc.)
Thank you for your interest in my request.
Best for 2023 to all.
Patrick.
