what NAS to get, trunas/synology what sizes etc
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-06-2023, 02:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I mainly want to back up a lot of PICTURES and PDFs. try to mitigate bit-rot. have it available to be able to look at photos, pdfs, some files remotely, is the main reason I want/need one.
offload documents, and pictures so they don't take up space in my main PC. (I have 4 SDDs attached and others in the closet Tongue )

  Synology setup and maintenance

Need to review the first unit that I have setup. There are a few errors that need to be corrected. The system needs to be reviewed to assure I have things correct. We will then setup t more units one in New York and one in Bangkok, Thailand. We will also collocate a rack unit to assure off site back of all systems and data. We use laptops and pc all windows based. Would like to schedule a Teams or Zoom call and review. Or just have you TeamViewer in and go over what I have setup.

  NEMIX memory on DS1821+ tested?
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-05-2023, 05:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (4)

Thanks for the great effort on this subject. It certainly helped us to explore the possibilities with the awesome device. I saw this on Amazon, and someone mentioned that it works well with Synology even with 16GB x2. I tried it on my DS1821+ and they seem to work well and passed the memory test as well. Anyone mentioned about it before?

I haven't had a NAS before. I would like to connect up to 4 IP cameras to it as well as using it as a media server and backing up PCs/tablets/phones etc.and have been looking at the DS220+.
I would like to know if it is meaty enough to be able to cope with the load or will I have to up my budget?
Hope I'm not wasting your time.
Thank you

  PS5 SSD slot coverplate
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-05-2023, 02:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, have recently purchased a Samsung 980 Pro SSD with heatsink, primarly because it was reduced to less than £100 at Argos. After having installed it in my PS5 everything is running fine, however, I am not thrilled at having to refit the OEM coverplate although I have done so.
My questions are, do any retailers sell alternative coverplates i.e. something similar to those supplied by Ineo or Graugear with their respective PS5 SSD heatsinks? Secondly how much benefit, if any, in terms of heat loss or cooling would the fitting of these types of coverplate give?
Thanks in advance.

First NAS - how to choose quite hard drives
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-05-2023, 10:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Looking at NAS solution for photos, music, documents, and video (mainly 1080p but may want to do 4k).

Looking at DS1522+ with 4x8tb drives, probably red plus. Want to be as quiet as possible. Is 8tb less noisy than 10 tb? Is 8 tb more noisy than 4 or 6 tb?

Thank you

What to chose to replace a Drobo 5N2?
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-05-2023, 05:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Like the feature of the Drobo 5N and 5N2 that you just insert a drive to add more drive space. And you can mix and match drive sizes. Is there a Synology NAS that has that feature? I keep seeing recommendations for the Synology DS1522+ But I don't know how to add more disk space to it. What do you recommend for easy disk space additions?

  TVS-h874 i5
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-05-2023, 02:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi there, much appreciate the advice;

I'm looking at upgrading my old QNAP 6 bay that is now not supported. Primary use is PLEX and ROON HD music server. I also run a M2 expansion card with two 250GB drives in QTier. Roon works well with album art but QNAP doesn't update the latest version in the repository, I have to download it manually specifying a much later system. Plex is output to a 4K Apple TV device and H265 files won't run on the Plex app, but does on another? I run CAT7 earthed shield cabling for the music.

I'm thinking of the TVS-h874 or 674 machines utilising the i5 processor, . 1. I'm confused which QNAP operating system to use, your thoughts? 2. Much hardware differences between the 6 and 8 bay machines? Can the i5 be upgraded to the i7 processor in the future? Thank you
