Hi I was just wondering if you can put the PNY heatsink directly onto the chipset of the xXPG GAMMIX S70 BLADE or do you need to run the factory one as well? I appreciate the advice and love ur YouTube channel keep up the amazing content!

  Video Editor
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-05-2023, 12:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I'm a professional video editor as well as a videographer and photographer so I have a LOT of media. Currently editing a feature documentary of 4K to 6K footage, and even though I use a proxy workflow generally, drive speed is still very important. I use an external SSD for my cache and project files and footage is on external hard drives likes G-Drives or Lacie. I have probably 20+ external hard drives. I'd love to have the ability to switch between projects without having to swap out drives all the time, as well as have a better, organized system in place for backup and redundancies. At the moment I don't have the need to share footage with other editors.

Is it possible to connect an iscsi target (a DroboProo) directly to an Synology (DS1821+ in my case) to use the DroboPro as a backup target for the Synologfy?

What's your professional opinion on it?

Thanks!

  Air-gapped NAS backup
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-04-2023, 02:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

We service many clients who use Google Workspace. We'd like to offer them managed offsite backups of their GW environments, and we plan to use Active Backup for Google Workspace (on Synology) to bring their backups onto our NAS (all good so far). From there, we'd like to offer an add-on service to store an additional "air-gapped" offline, immutable copy of their data, but we're not sure how to implement that. We could purchase a 2nd NAS and keep it offline, and then use external hard drives to shuttle data from the main NAS to the air-gapped NAS, but that seems so labor intensive... Or maybe there's a way to use snapshot replication? We're wondering what a guru might suggest in this situation.

Best nas for jellyfin media server
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-04-2023, 12:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,
I've recently discoverd Jellyfin and I want to build my first home media server. I previously watched my movies and shows directly on my compter using vlc/potplayer but I love that you can watch your files from any devices in your home network with Jellyfin.
I do have some 4k movies so I'm not sure what nas I need. I did however found the Synology DS220+ and wanted to know if it was a good choice.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards.
Boran

  WD MyCloud (2nd Gen) replacement
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-04-2023, 12:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I currently have a WD MyCloud (2nd Gen)

My current settings:
> My Cloud device mounted to NVIDIA Shield TV
> WD Elements (external HDD) connected to My Cloud as backup
> I transfer all files (media, pictures and music) from my PC to the My Cloud
> I have private & shared folders setup in My Cloud for different users
> I stream movies using Plex on NVIDIA Shield TV

What would be a good replacement for my single bay WD MyCloud (2nd Gen)?

  Small NAS comparsion
Posted by: Enquiries - 02-03-2023, 08:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I'm new to Plex, Video formatting and NAS Servers. Your website is incredibly helpful, though much of the technical comparative data is beyond me right now.

I am trying to set up a NAS based Plex server to host my own 4k home videos. They will only be accessed by an AppleTV, and the whole system will be wired on a 1 gbe network (though I may upgrade the network to 2.5 gbe within the year). I'm comparing the QANP TS-253E vs the Synology DS220+ (I know the later does not have 2.5gbe, but the cost difference is decent).
For my singular needs do you have a recommendation? Relatedly, is there a video format/resolution you would recommend to allow one or both of these options to perform well?
Thank you in advance
