Hello,
I just made the decision to buy a NAS.
Wants:
- regular backups(pictures, data, contacts etc.) from my Android and iOS device for different users without giving them access to all data on the NAS
- potentially media streaming in the future.
- I want it to be secure so I can connect remotely and replace dropbox and online storage.
- raid capability
- quiet
Nice to have:
- posibility to have vitual macine as I am learning linux
- VPN when travelling abroad
- upgradability and futureproofing capability
- software for sorting and tagging pictures
- managing duplicate files
- small form factor
- value for money

I am looking for someone who could help with a synology nas system. It is working at correct speed over LAN but if i access it remotely, it is very slow data transfer, even though I have a 100+ meg upload speed and fast download speed on the remote end. Please let me know if I could pay for your services to help fix this.

Need a NAS (weirdly having my heart set on QNAP). I will need a huge amount of storage, was think 12 x 18TB for raid storage, like maybe QNAP TVS-h1688X, also having SSD installed for cache. Surveillance capability for 3 cameras is also needed, so was thinking an add on graphic card as well, 2 x 32 ECC Ram now that I am spec' ing up the unit(s)
Will need a backup as as well, what is recommended from your expert, is QNAP better for these requirements? What models (main NAS and backup NAS) should I get, graphic card, RAM etc.
Thanks

I enjoyed your YouTube getting started. I have studied it and others and yours is by far superior and thanks for that. As to my questions everyone explains backing up the NAS which is fine, however I need to get the stuff to the NAS first.
I understand how you can back a photo one or a group at a time. What I do not understand is how to back up my computers, or is this possible?
I bought the NAS with the idea of backing up my 5 computers on it and as my personal cloud. So I have 5 computers I would like them to each have there own identity on the NAS and back each one up on a routine basses. In the shared folders I would like for that to be cross information to all users.
Just to let you know SYNOLOGY has the most worthless customer/tech support if you get through to one they just tell you google your question. If I knew that this was this bad I would of bought something else. You should be paid by SYNOLOGY for doing them a valuable service. I would like to say thank you for any help

Hi,
I have a Synology DS1821+ which holds family photos, financial records and a whole bunch of unimportant stuff.
I'm looking at the SMT1000I and SMT1500I. The 1500I is much more expensive.
We have pretty consistent power and outages are rare. If we get an outage it will be down for at least an hour or more.
The UPS would be in the lounge room so would need to be quiet.
I'm thinking that if the UPS can condition input power and trigger an orderly shut down of the NAS that would meet my needs.
I do have some other equipment such as UDM Pro & Ubiquiti 48 port switch in the rack as well as the usual assortment of gaming boxes. But my life depends on keeping the photos intact.
What would be your advice?
thank you
Andrew

Hi there, I was wondering if you could point me to any article you know of that shows testing of memory for QNAP TS-664 over the 16GB
I found this link, which suggest 64GB, but can't find much more, I know you have videos for other QNAP models but do you know about the TS?64 range

Hi I am deciding to get the Synology Nas ds923+ or ds1522+. With 12tb x4 or 5. I have watched your videos and absolutely enjoyed them by the way. I have chose to go for shr 1 raid.
I will be using the Nas for viewing photos and video content both locally and and outside the home and sharing with my cousins in canada. Some of my video content is 4k eg movies and content creating on a action camera.
Which Nas do you recommend. The hard drives I was looking at were the iron wolf.
Thank you very much
