I was waiting for at least the last yr for the 720 upgrade to come out. I love Synology, want to stay... but need to upgrade my DS211.
I wanna stay 2 bay but have expansion, spec the thing up as high as I can for performance gear... NVMe, max RAM, etc.
I also have a couple of ip cams - but they are nice to have instead of need.
Should I wait hoping for 2023... or go another brand?
I even logged a Synology support ticket... they can't share any roadmap unfortunately ?

Advice for a backup system fitting my needs |

First of all thanks a lot for this amazing and complete website ! I found so many valuable informations already, especially to help a canadian research station for their backup system ??
My needs are a bit more unique hence my enquiry. I'm a photographer, video and podcast editor and traveller. I have been working on 2.5" HD for the past decades with the constant fear of losing datas even though my work is at least backed up on 2 HD while traveling... I've got too many hard drives now and it's time to invest in another solution !
The dream would be to have a unit back home so I can backup everything I need on it, but also to have access from the other side of the world if I need a specific file.
I would love to be able to provide an access to customers but this is not my prime concern atm.
I think a NAS is the way to go but not sure if it will be what I need so don't want to invest too much on it (maybe a 2 bays NAS)
Can't wait (and thanks!) to have your inputs!

Currently I have an old Netgear ReadyNas Ultra 6 Plus which is dying and I'm looking to replace it. In terms of my use case, currently I store all my media in the NAS with my computer serving as the Plex Server. Moving forwards, I intend have having the NAS functioning mostly as Media/Data storage (with my Mac continue to run Plex) and Time Machine back ups. Right now, my network is still 1GB but I am looking to upgrade it to 10GB soon. I am looking for a NAS that is fast enough so it can fully saturated the full 10GB connection, so it would feel the same as a USB4 SSD hdd. Currently, I'm looking at the Synology DS1621+ or DS1522+ filling it with WD 16TB Ultrastar HDD He16 or Toshiba Enterprise 16TB MG08ACA16TE drives (any preference on these two drives?). I'm afraid of security issues hence didn't consider QNAP. As the 1522+ is newer is it better than 1621+ with the exception of 1 drive short? Would they be able to fully saturate 10GB connection? Most appreciate your advice.

Hello and thank you for all your work / video on YouTube. I'll be sure to use your affiliate links to order the NAS and drives.
I'm looking for a 2 bay NAS to replace WD. Its for home and I want to be able to save files , and have as well as have automatic backup to the NAS from Windows 10/11.
2) I currently run Plex server on my main desktop PC would much rather run Plex on the NAS and store my media files there too. Plex would run to devices in ourh home only.
From your videos I'm looking between Asustor and Synology but what is stopping me from moving forward is which CPU is the best
Would the Asustor Nimbustor AS5202T work or should I step up to a AS6702T (Lockerstor 2 -gen 2) ? Or would you recommend a specific Synology product? I know Synology is getting strange on using their memory/drives
Thanks so much, Doug

Synology RS1221+ and WD Red Pro >16TB HDDs |

Saw your review about using non-Synology HDDs in the 22+ series and DSM 7.1.
Do you know if the RS1221+ will support the WD Red Pro 18, 20, and 22TB drives?
Don't want to order 8 of them to find that they won't be supported at all. I'm OK (not really) with the unverified warning.
Thanks!
Eric

Rackmounted? SHR-like 4-5 bay for Final Cut Pro, Time Machine, Archive & occasional VM |

We need a solution to store video for FCPX editing & video archive, 4 time machines and the occasional VM - we'd love to backup iOS devices also. We have a rack with 10GB switch (MikroTik CRS312-4C+8XG-RM), 1GB leased line + 6GB Netgear SXK80 mesh & M2 MBPs. Currently have 1x Seagate ST16000NM001G Exos X16 + 4x old 4TB WD Red NAS WD40EFAX that we'd like to use initially & swap out over time. We currently have 14TB & growing of mainly video on Dropbox, but we'd like a local copy. If not rack mount now we would like to later move this NAS to second building and use as high availability backup to a future rack mount unit - when funds permit. Torn between RS422+ (for DSM, SHR & Btrfs), QNAP TS-431XeU (for better hardware specs), DS923+ (best bits of RS422 & 331, but won't fit in rack) & DS1522+ (for increased capacity, but no NVMe Storage Pools & greater cost) or is there a better option?

TS-233 Functionality check |

I am looking for a good "value" 2 bay nas that I can sync with my cloud photos, currently google photos but I would be open to migrating them to a more easy access service, and running a pi-hole container. Would the Qnap TS-233 be able to handle these tasks? I was quite excited about the Synology DS-223 but it seems it cannot do containers. Also, would it be better to get an older QnapTS-251D-2G, as they are on offer at the moment?
