NAS Suggestion - Enquiries - 03-13-2023 Good Day Sir. I own a small wedding videography business. I currently own 5 WD 18TB Ext. HDDs for backup and multiple LaCie HDDs (3 copies). I came across NAS and thought of buying one. Intended use of NAS: 1. I want it to be my backup solution and I thought of RAID10 so that I will have 2 copies of my data. 3rd copy will be stored on ext hdd. 2. Initially I will add 4 drives as required for RAID10, then I will add more later as my budget grows. My question here is, is it possible to add HDDs without loosing data in RAID10? 3. Should I buy now with Thunderbolt 4, so that transfer rates between my NAS and my PC would be fast. I have limited knowledge of computer hardware and would really appreciate your suggestion. At first I was thinking about DAS however, didn't get much of information about it. I would consider DAS but I found it with NAS I can share data with my clients without uploading to cloud service. Looking forward for your reply. Thank you RE: NAS Suggestion - ed - 03-17-2023 I would recommend thunderbolt models such as 672xt from Qnap or new tvs-674 with intel core i5 that also allows 10gbe upgrade (which allows greater distance and collaboration than thunderbolt). The bandwidth that is needed for 4k editing is around 300MB/s. Regarding redundancy, RAID6 is safer than RAID10 (if two drives fail on one side of the RAID, data is lost- so its actually one drive protection in some cases). Adding more drives to RAID10 is not possible. |
