RAM for the Lockerstor AS6702T

#1
Dear Nas Compares,

Following your nice videos and interesting articles I decided to buy an Asustor Lockerstor AS6702T. It will arrive tomorrow.

I came from a previous experience with Synology ds213air bought in 2013. Very disappointing for the slow performances.

I am an expert Linux user and want to use virtualisation features and NextCloud.

I would like to ask you what is your opinion about installing one single supplemental RAM module of 16 Gb that I already have or to buy two 8Gb modules to improve the virtualisation capacity.

I thank you very much for any time you will decide to dedicate answering me.

Congratulations on your new Asustor Lockerstor AS6702T! It's great that you have experience with Linux and are planning to use virtualization and NextCloud on your new NAS.

You can mix different RAM modules, just make sure the frequency s the same.

That being said, it's worth noting that the amount of RAM you need will depend on the specific applications and workloads you plan to run on your NAS. Virtualization and NextCloud can both be memory-intensive, so having more RAM can definitely help improve performance. Asustor recommends at least 8GB of RAM for virtualization, but 16GB or more would be even better.

Overall, it's a good idea to match the RAM modules for optimal performance and consider purchasing additional RAM if you plan to use memory-intensive applications.
