Hi just to let you know great Youtube reviews.
Looking for a 4 bay Nas for photo management i.e recognition and also viewing media in Plex any advice would be appreciated.
My budget is for Nas bay only i have a couple of drives already.
I currently have a TS 251d and would consider a Synology to try DSM but would go with your recommendation.
Thanks again.

Hi Robbie/Ed,
Been following your series of tutorials for setting up a new Synology nas. All is going well, but I have a quick Q...
After setting up a shared folder, in your tutorial you talk about mapping the share to a desktop pc by using Synology Assistant > right-clicking on the nas available in Synology Assistant and from the 3 x options to appear, selecting the middle one to 'Map Drive/share'.
All that makes perfect sense, except the mapping option is greyed out for me? I've gone back over your tutorial a good few times to ensure I've done everything right, but still the option is greyed out?
I've no idea why? Have you come across this before? Looking for the simplest way to map the share which is why I tried this option (as this is how I did it on an older nas.)
Thanks in advance for your help.

My TVs-671 i5 has just died and I need a replacement machine. I use it mainly for 4k video streaming of my ripped DVD’s and saving some docs, Time Machine and artwork.
Is the TVS-872xt still a good option or is the TVS-h874 a better bet given its lack of HDMI 2.0, thunderbolt and 10Gbe and £500 extra cost?
I have a 10g Qm2 card which I can stick into the 874 but the HDMI 1.4 is a bummer. To not have native 10Gbe in such a powerful Nas seems obtuse.
I need a Qnap to retain my data on the hdd’s. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
John

Cannot access QNAP NAS after synchronizing RAID 1 |

Hi,
I have a QNAP TVS-672XT NAS with two 12tb drives in RAID 1 for my Plex server.
I also have two 1tb SSD's which is where i install all of the apps and other files.
The NAS had been running just fineup until a couple of days ago, it is up to date with firmware 5.0.1.2248.
I had noticed the LED display was saying it was shutting down, i don't remember doing this but it was stuck like this for a day.
I was unable to log in via the web browser and QNAP Qfinder Pro was unable to locate it on the network, i had bookmarked the NAS when working but it is greyed out and unresponsive.
I had disabled the SSH option due to wanting tomake the NAS as secure as possible, the NAS is on a private network at home.
I pressed and held the power button to shut down the NAS and left it 30 seconds before powering it up again, then the atatus light was red.
The display said there was an error anda again unable to log in.
I found online that if i powered down the NAS and pulled the drives, i would then be able to log in when powered up again.
Sure enough i was and on the dashboard on there was on disk error in RAID 1, so iopened Storage & Snapshots, selected the RAID and then manage, selected recover.
The drive then turned from red to green and the background task manager at the top of the screen showed a job running, as did Storage & Snapshots, the drive was now synchronizing.
The background task manager showed it would take 26 hours which was fine by me if that's what it takes, i had the web browser open and left it awhile.
Suddenly the logging out window popped up and i was being logged out, it just stayed on this window for a long time, tried to refresh the page and then suddenly it went to a white screen with the following text: "Service unavailable"
"The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later"
It has been like this for a couple of days and the LED display has been illuminated since displaying the name of the NAS and otherwise unresponsive.
The fan is spinning and every now and then i hear a drive spin up.
Could someone kindly tell me what i should/could do to get back to the dashboard or what the problem is please?
Kind regards

QNAP Network Speeds |

Hi,
I have an issue with network speeds on my QNAP TS464.
I'm on BT FTTP 500 with an ASUS GTAX6000 Router and all devices inclusive of wired and wireless achieve speeds in excess of 400Mbps.
The exception to this is the QNAP which, at the very best will only hit 80-90Mbps max in all scenarios.
I'm running it with link aggregation using the adaptive (802.3ad) config as both the router and QNAP accept this.
The QNAP is wired direct from ports 1 & 2 as stated in the manual with "Bonding/ Link aggregation" in the router enabled.
The QNAP has ports 1 & 2 linked via the network console Control Panel with (802.3ad) enabled and shown to be functioning correctly.
I'm not sure where to go from here to be honest?
Are such transfer speeds (500Mbps even possible with a NAS)??

I need to migrate 14 TB of data from Synology 1513+ to a 1821+. Can Migration Assistant transfer the data files only, without transferring configuration settings and packages? Or do I have to use the slow Hyper Backup for that? The 1513+ is old, and I don't want to risk transferring bad config settings that might have been changed over the years.
Thanks for all of your YouTube content - best NAS information in the world!

Connect a sonOff Zigbee3.0 dongle to my Asustor AS1102T |

Hi,
First of all, thanks to you for your quality videos ! I didn't have a big budget, and you made it quite easy to choose a NAS after all.
As mentionned in my title, I've bought the Asustor AS1102T, which works fine (I'm only using it as a cloud storage right now).
I am looking to connect/install/configure my SonOff Zigbee3.0 dongle so I can use HomeAssistant to manage my connected devices, but it seems my NAS can't recognize it. Any idea on how to do that ?
Thanks, and best regards,
Sebastien

NAS for music library |

2 bay NAS, use 1 drive at first then add another later.
Use for music library, networked with a BluOS PowerNode music streamer.
About 10 TB total storage.
Not for streaming video.
I have WD 10 TB external hard drive for backup.
I have some HD drives of various sizes (8 to 12 TB) I could use.
Can't afford "Big Bucks"
Many thanks

I currently run OMV on ultra SFF PC with main goal to serve as Time Machine backup for 2 Macs. I used to use it for photos, but run out of space and gave up. Main reason of change is energy efficiency (PC has 65W TDP chip) and capacity upgrade (from 1 to 2 TB). Question - is there any reason to opt for DS223 instead of DS220+ (like power consumption, performance, noise, future software support) as price difference is negliglible for me now. I have no needs for media server, cameras nor VMs. Photos plus Time Machine (not eve file sharing). I will install 2x2TB SSDs as noise is very important. Alternative for me is new micro PC with passive cooling and OMV or QNAP 233.
P.S. I used to ask you for business advice (NAS for Video Editing) and it worked out great - we got this QNAP machine (TVS-h1688X-W1250-32G) and did some nice projects using it. Thanks!
