Hi Ed,
1. What 16gb ram kit do you recommend for the TS464?
2. What ram options beyond the current 16gb limit are available for the tS464?
(I realised you had some limited success with trying additional capacity - but if you verified it works it would be great if you could pass on the ram make and model)
Cheers,
Marko

Hello
We are a small business based in Cyprus. We have our data in Switzerland on a DiskStation DS414. The DS is located in a data centre. However, we want absolute data security.
We are looking for a document management system. This in turn needs docker, which does not run on the DS414.
Now we have seen here, Rent your Synology NAS in a data centre | Infomaniak, that you can rent Synology RackStation RS217.
My questions:
Is the RS RS217 better than the DS414 or rather worse?
Can the RS 217 docker?
Can the RS 217 do RAID 4?
Can a Windows machine be installed from the RS 217?
I want to be able to receive my data securely from anywhere in the world.
What would you recommend?
I would be happy to hear from you.

I have a Mycloud which is losing software support so time to upgrade. I am looking at the 4 bay DS923+.
I am a small home business which stores a lot of paperwork (pdf/excel,jpeg) for classes (student question papers, attendance sheets, answer sheets, feedback sheets, certificates) into folders so I can type in their name and retrieve all documents associated with that person. I need to make sure all paperwork is fully secure so set up (synology backup or RAID configuration) advice also sought.
I will eventually like to create and store youtube style vlogs and also transfer over my personal icloud photos, images etc onto the NAS at some point once I have mastered use of the NAS. I AM STILL OPEN TO ANY NAS BEST FOR MYSELF, but the videos seem to show the 923+ as possbily be the one for me?
thanks.

| Advice on DIY NAS plans |

Hello! I was hoping you could review my high level DIY NAS plans and possibly offer advice or hardware suggestions. I'm looking to build something for file storage (photos, videos, documents, games, et), editing 4k Youtube/Twitch videos, and to host various services via Docker. My background is very technical. I'm a software engineer, I've been building my own computers since I was 10, and I'm pretty comfortable with k8s and docker.
My current plan is...
OS: TrueNAS Scale
Docker Pool: nvmes in raidz1
File Pool: Either SATA SSD's or HDD's in raidz1
Network: 10gbe (limited by cat6)
CPU: Threadripper or server CPU
GPU: Integrated or cheap
RAM: 64 GB
Backup: Backblaze
I'd like to start with less disks and leave room to expand over time and ensure I'm saturating the network connection.
Questions:
Does it make sense to have 2 pools?
Should I stick to 1 disk type?
Any CPU and mobo recommendations?
Should I start with more RAM?
10gbe switch and pcie card recommendations?
Thanks!

I have an old Netgear readynas rn31400. Backs up local files. Mainly movies, and personal files. I was able to setup a share so friends and family could access my "videos" folder. But it seems slow for them to access and download. I've never transcoded to a device. I usually just copy the file to my local pc or ipad to play from device directly.
I have (4) 2tb HDDs, but have considered upgrading to SSD drives. For faster copy, and quietness.
I do keep the nas in my bedroom, so I would like it to be quite. The rn314 is pretty quite when not be accessed.
I have watched many of your videos. I think I'm more of a hardware guy. So I like the ts-473a, but it seems a bit old now, and still expensive?
Having a m.2 cache option would be nice.
I don't want any subscription features.
I just want to backup files from my 3 PCs in my house, manually would be ok. Maybe automatically would be cool. I want to be able to share videos with friends/family. I'm down to be in 1 of your video

Hello
Just my wife and I at home, kids all gone, but between work and our own computers a lot to BU and years of family photos, may try to get and back up our 5 grown kids photos (to have pictures of grandchildren really saved not just on social media low res). We would have PC and Mac auto backup to Nas and some manual copy to Nas, probably use portable external drives to backup(not cloud) Nas from time to time, keep these at one of our kids homes. We just built new home and have wired for 5 external cameras, maybe one or two internal, would like to have some security monitoring of this. House has mix of Lennox smart thermostat, myQ smart garage door, U-tec smart door locks. We have Apple TV, Iphones, 4 Macs, Ipads wife uses Mac for work, I use PC for work.We run a Sonos system, spotify and apple music, maybe 2000 songs of our own, we don't collect holywood movies but have some home video would like to get a little more but photos our real focus. What Nas best fit, please?

Hi There,
I have a Synology DS1821+. (8x 4TB)
In my pc and also in the 1821+ i have an Intel X550T2 10Gbit card.
So via the X550T2 i have an 10Gbit connection to the 1821+
Now i a want to buy a new computer now without HDD.
So i am thinking of buying an other 1821+ or 1621+.
The first with smaller HDD and the 1621+ with bigger HDD.
Well first will there be an 1823+ or 1623+? The 1823xs is too expensive.
And futher how to connect a 10GBit connection.
Is it possible to go from my (new)pc to the X550T2 in my 1821+ and from there port 2 of the X550T2 to my second new NAS?
Or does the second NAS need a direct connection to my PC?
I don't have a 10Gbit switch.
Regards Léon
