  Synology NAS wake on lan
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-09-2023, 12:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

Hi there,
I'M wondering if you know why my Synology NAS ignores my Wake on Lan Magic Package from time to time. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. But always sending it from the very same environment and network. Is there something known as a bug with Synology? I tried already googling it, but came up with nothing. The NAS (DS218+) has also a schedule enabled for waking up and shutting down. Can it be related to that?

Best regards and big thanks,
Dennis

My last queston left out the fact that I use a Meraki(Cisco) MS22. So, I don't need more than 1Gbps RJ45 connectivity. Based on you top NAS's for 2023 and this 1Gps limit, and for looking for a home for 4 3.5" WD Red 2TB drives, and the fact that I am almost all Apple, I am thinking that a QNP TS-431K 4 bay diskless with Time Machine and iTunes might work well for me. After using a ReadyNas NV+ for over ten years, the QNAP seems like a good choice.

  Upgrading from Drobo 5N2
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-09-2023, 04:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I just wanted to say that your YouTube videos around comparable systems to the Drobo 5N2 have been absolutely fantastic!
It’s been a real education and has helped me to narrow down my choices going forwards… I’m currently looking at the Qnap TS-664, even though it lacks the flexible raid of other models.
Thank you so much for your great help.
Simon

P.S. I’m so pleased you mentioned about the onboard emergency battery in the 5N2… it saved my life once when my UPS failed and that was one of the first things I looked at (and didn’t find) across all the brands currently out there.

Great article. I have a Apple centric home/business. Your article leaves out Time Machine and iCloud. I have a set of WD Red drives and am looking for a diskless NAS to put them into. I have been used to a ReadyNAS NV+ for a decade and decided not to replace the power supply for a second time and upgrade. (the software on it is barely readable with current browsers). So, I have a lot of experience with operating a NAS, want to save my four 2TB 3.5" drives and move into this decade. Any suggestions? (two Macbook Airs, too Mac Mini's, and a MacBook Pro. (and one PC workstation for Flight Simulator)

Thank you,
Carl

  Drives for 923+
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-08-2023, 04:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Good day!

I was saving up for a 1522+ but I saw a 923+ for $200 CAD off during Backup Day, so I couldn't pass it up.

I am saving up to expand the SSD and RAM and HDD. I figured I might as well get Synology drives to keep it all one ecosystem although I have Seagates in my cart on amazon. HA! I did see a comment though: "I am quite interested to see how Synology will approach their mid range NAS storage media (HAT3300) plus series drives later on this year, as these will arguably have a pinch more consumer appeal ."

Should I wait until then to pull the trigger on Synology drives? I'm not in a rush to get the NAS running.

Oh, it's my first NAS too! The planned use is for to manage my data and be able to replace my dropbox business account for my game development team.

  4G LTE router and antenna
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-08-2023, 12:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,
I am looking for a solution for my house in Greece using service form COMOTE the Greek cell phone company. Bands B3, B7 and B20. I would like a 2x2 mimo omni directional antenna which is then connected to a 4g LTE router with Gigabit LAN capabilities and 2x2 mimo connections. The towers are always changing which is the reason for an omni directional antenna. Seems they change what tower does what to accommodate tourists. 5G is in the extreme future so I do not believe it is necessary. I would like your recommendations Thank you in advanced. Mike Russo
