Using NAS for Media player & Docker with Zappiti
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-05-2023, 04:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Was watching the video streaming vs. physical media as well as your video on NAS Synology setup Part 1. I'm planning on buying a NAS although I haven't yet. I'm planning on using it mainly for videos to and from my Zappiti and Zidoo (video media player devices). On the Zappiti website they give instructions on setting up Zappiti with Synology's Docker program. Do i need to do this or would I want to have it? Why or why not do this? thanks for any insights you may have

  4k plex
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-05-2023, 01:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

What i idealy would like is to be able to transcode 2 min at 4k plex streams on the nas.I have no idea on bit rate of files but now more than 40gb for a 2hr movie mostly less 10-20gb.

Also to be able to remote into a torrent client from my pc to start and store torrent on the nas.
For the torrent functionally also looking to run my pia vpn.

Been looking at QNAP TS-464 NAS from what ive seen plex performance is good but weary of the vulnerabilities of having it connected to the internet ie for torrenting.

  RS1219+ and 18TB compatibility
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-05-2023, 12:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

I have a RS1219+ and was looking to update the HD to 18 TB but on the Synology compatibility site, there is no 18 TB HD are listed.

Do you know if I buy 18 TB HD, they will work in this NAS and if yes, are they any drawback to use none compatibility HD on this NAS?

Thank you for your help

Doorbell Camera suitable for Surveillance Station
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-05-2023, 12:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello again

Have you come across a Doorbell Camera that works "well" with Surveillance Station?

There are plenty out there but not compatiable, it seems.
For this type of end user application the software needs to be reliable and simple to use..

thanks

  DX517 install
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-05-2023, 12:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi There,

I'm looking for some advice on installing 2 x DX517 expansion units with a DS16121+ NAS.

I simply want to add more capacity to my existing storage pool. The NAS cuurenly has about 90TB on it and is rapidly running out. The new expansion units each have 5 x 20 TB drives installed and ready to go.

I found this video about installing the expansion units and as 12.25 he mentions that not all drives appear on DSM as available when trying to add an expansion unit to current stroage pool. Is this correct, if so is there a way around that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ah-xermfmM

Also can I continu eto use the NAS once installed and the RAID is re-configuring?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Jack

  Memory upgrade for DS1522+
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-05-2023, 11:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi
Thanks for your excelent YT videos Smile
I have a 1522+ arriving today, to upgrade my inhouse NAS but also to test a few areas for clients.
So thinking about memory upgrades.
Have you established reliable non Syno memory for the 1522?
1, is it safe to add a non syno 8Gb to get 16gb?
or is it better to just buy another syno branded 8gb module?
2, can you recomend a non syno brand for a pair of 16Gb? Do we need to use ECC?

Two areas I am considering for this client are running Win10 or WinServer in a Virtual Machine. hence the memory upgrade, any recomendations or thoughts on this? The client has a DS1510 as their main server but needs a Windows based server to run just two Sage Server side apps, for Line50 and SAPA. The current, seperate Windows Server is pure overkill, but needs replacing.

Other is to use the Syno Drive as a replacement for OneDrive... but im not convinced its actually up to it, given the App reviews.. do you know if its a useable product?

many thanks!!
Dan

  TL-D1600S test
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-05-2023, 09:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Wondering if you could do a test, (if you have one that is), with a QNAP TL-D1600S, but running off a Truenas system?

Might also be an interesting video also if it works.

Thanks

  Photos backup on NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-05-2023, 07:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,

I watched a lot of your videos. I'm interested to buy a 1 bay storage NAS mainly to backup my photos and videos. I see there are mainly two options - QNAP or Synology. I like the idea to have something like self hosted google photos.
My question is - with QNAP can I have multiple users that will have something like their own "google photos" accounts on my NAS server? For example me and my wife both to have QuMagie on our mobile phones and each of us to have its own set of photos that will be AI processed and tagged.
In a YouTube video I understood there is such option with Synology, but I like more QNAP.
I think the multiple "photos app" accounts is a deal breaker for a lot of people, but both companies say nothing on their features pages about that.

  Plex server
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-05-2023, 03:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have recently purchased a Qnap TS-464 for Plex, I have been running Plex for a few years now from my windows pc. I have moved my media over to the NAS and setup Plex on it, however while doing so - likely out of my own stupidity - I have created a secondary Plex server, I am wondering if it is possible for me to have the NAS running my original server with all my users and watched info intact, then I can just disable the second server I created. I have tried following the Plex guide on transferring the server with no luck. Not as big of a concern but I have also noticed that some shows/movies are not appearing in my new plex library but are available if I search for them.
Thank you for your time, love the work you guys are doing, keep it up.
