I never used NAS before, just DAS. Now that Drobo is finished, I want to use found a new backup way with NAS. For this NAS, I also want to replace the Google Drive for my iPad to connect, download or access my business catalogues.

My network will upgrade to 2.5Gbe Wan and 10Gbe intranet. And I already have 6 3TB HDD.

Now I'm looking at two NAS one is DS1621+ and TS-832PX.
Both prices are under USD860 in Hong Kong.

Question
1: Qnap is more potent than Synology but easy to hack. If I sync with my cloud, will it be easy to hack?
2: If DS1621+ need 10Gbe need to add nearly USD150 for the LAN card?
3: For the second-hand market, Synology is more valuable.

May I have some advice on which one is fitter my case?

I'm just about to by myself synology 923+ I want one good system for storing my photos and videos.
I'm a photographer amateur.

My question is if I would be able to run the synology on myfi only. In my house this was the best option as WiFi was slow.
Also possibly I'll be moving back to Poland so didn't want long broadband contract.

I understand that to set up synology i need to connect it via cable to a router...
I can do that taking my laptop to my work where I've got a WiFi...
Will i be able then after to bring it back and use it only on the mobile (myfi) with my PC? Or contacted to my PC via Ethernet?

I'm sorry this is all completed and I hope that this all make sense what I'm trying to ask for.

I bought a Synology DS423+ to run as a home plex media server.
I went down the JBOD route (I know this isn't a popular option, but backups are not a problem, as I have this sorted another way).
I've added 4 drives 18TB/12TB/5TB and 2TB
I have 4TB of Music, 10TB TV and 14TB of Movies
I'm still uploading all to Plex, and is taking a while.
Firstly, I'm getting a lot of the time (no matter what device I try to access the Plex NAS on) Something went wrong. I've left it so the plex is only detecting intro's on the TV shows (which is taking soooooo long), and it's still saying this a lot of the time. Is this because I've added a huge amount at once and need to optimise the database? I'm hoping so as ill do that once finished adding everything.
I also have a spare 128GB SSD NVME...is it worth installing or should I not bother. IF I should, how should I utilise it.
I am only using this NAS for Plex

Hello, I am approaching my data limit on my existing QNAP TS-453A (running RAID 10, with 14.10 TB usable storage, all slots filled), and I am looking to expand my storage.

Current use case is holding media for my Intel NUC to MAP it in Windows and behave as a Plex Media Server.

I am considering building my own NAS and not buying a NAS, and considering building an 8-bay NAS (RAID 5).

How cost-effective and reasonable is this for my current use case? Is a DIY NAS power consumption much more than an off the shelf NAS?

Hi. I have been watching lots of your videos especialy on the DS3622xs+. I’m using macbook pro m2 max to edit my 4k videos. I already been using DS418 however only for storage. I would like to upgrade to DS3622xs+ so that I can edit my 4k videos while connecting to the NAS via the 10gbps connection as i know it had 2 10gbpe ports. Will i be able to edit smoothly the 4k timeline without any drop frame and can scrub through the timeline smoothly with this setup? Appreciate your advice. Thanks.

Have been in the DROBO environment, but now need to move on as my Drobo5N2 is failing. Looking for advice as to the suitability of (6 bay) Synology or QNAP. Recommended NVME M.2 SSD, RAID, hot swapability for upgrade disks, etc. I intend starting with spare 10TB IronWolf and growing as data migrates and disks are redeployed from failing DROBO (currently migrating data in blocks, between each unscheduled powerdown)

First step I will add:
- 2x Kingston Server Premier DIMM 32GB, DDR4-2666, CL19-19-19, ECC
- 2x OEM Datacenter SSD PM9A3 1.92TB, U.2
- 2x OEM Datacenter SSD PM893 3.84TB, SATA

Will this work fine?

How will I reach the best performance?
- one U.2 for the first system pool?
- other U.2 for the system cache?
- both SATA SSD´s for the user dataset in raid 0 for the best performance or better in raid 1 for security in mind?

In the secont step after awhile will I assembling the other 5 bay´s with Toshiba N300 for a big storage pool in raid 6, opr better in raid 10?

I'm leaning towards TrueNAS and came across this company, ServerStore. They look UK based and offer a three year warranty.

I have a TS251D , Connected via Cat5 and 4 Computers all Currently Working in My Lan.
My Main PC is i9 64gb 4tb SSD .
The others are Windows 10 Pc's.
The windows 10 pc's can comumnicate with the ts251d and work with libreoffice (LO ) files stored on the NAS.
However the main pc ( Linux ) can see the LO files but spits out an error with some reference to Share Permissions or Write permissions.
With Windows 10 installed on my main pc I can work as normal with the files on the ts251d.
My Linux Operating System is WindowsFx 13.1 Cinnamon.
If I try to open an LO file in windowsfx from the file browser , I get the same error no write permissions or similar.

I have a lot of data I want to protect and at the same time I have very important video files very rare movies shows that I want to play so I want capable plex server also running and at the same time I want to a lot of data and I want to protect it the problem is 923 + I do not have hardware transcoding. with 423 + I have hardware transcoding but it is not so feature rich compared to 923 + the difference in India in the cost of these two devices just 5 or 6000 INR I am also thinking of may be taking a 220 + for my videos and 923 + 4 data or I should take 423 + for both difference between 423 + and 923 + cost is not much I am very confused to what should I do
