after pouring through the various options available I have narrowed it down to DS224+ and TS-262 but can't quite decide which one to go with. Below is what I aim to use it for

1. Store and view photos / videos from iphone/android from anywhere. I am selling the idea of a NAS to the missus on this usecase since she is frustrated with her iphone storage running out frequently and I don't want to fork out for icloud.
2. Media server with directly play, transcoding is not very important
3. Ability to download from https/bittorrent etc. using a VPN connection
4. Access the content of the NAS securely from anywhere

I understand both these models can achieve all of these. I am inclined towards QNAP however the software superiority of Synology is giving me pause. I just want to know if DSM and QTS 5.2 are on par with functionality. I don't mind fiddling around the setting or some DIY if that is what is needed for QNAP.

I’m looking to buy my first NAS system to run Plex Media, family photos and home security cameras.

Living in Australia we never really get access to the latest tec but after watching your YouTube channel and seeing what is available online I have stumbled upon the new Terramaster T9-500 pro which is only available on Amazon AU.

I was wondering your thoughts on there new system?

When I import my MP4 files to the Plex Server installed on my Synology 1821+, they emerge as individaul files in the library ie withouy the subfolder which has the composer's name and (within that) the sub-sub-folder with the type of composition etc. It will be extremely tedious to import each sub-foldeer individaully. Is there any way I can import all nested sub-folders into the Plex Library?

Medical professional looking to store DICOM files remotely and access them a DICOM viewer

My Drobo 5n died. My problem, not yours. I'm looking for a much simpler replacement. I'm thinking in terms of a 2-bay unit, set up as JDOB (?). I want to treat the 2-bay unit as a single driv e. Want backup scheduled and run from the unit to an external drive connected to it via usb. It primary use will be to host music files (mp3's), and secondary, to back up pc's. Simple is better, as I am not very hardware savvy. I keep finding pros and cons for Synology, QNAP, Asustor, and TerraMaster. Planning on making a purchase this eminently, so the sooner I hear from you would be great. Don't want a dead Drobo and have buyer's remorse. THX.

I’m on the hunt for the perfect NAS for Plex. I need something with 6 or more bays and the ability to transcode multiple 4K HDR streams. My budget is around $800, but if there’s a NAS that’s just as good but a bit cheaper, that’s totally fine too. I just want to be able to stream my 4K HDR movies outside my house without hickups. I am a surgeon in the US, and a big part of my job is teaching residents. I built a fairly elaborate 6k video rig for capturing high quality surgical videos for teaching. I plan to record dozens of videos, ranging from 1 to 10 hours each (at my bitrate, 8 hours is ~1TB). I need to store both unedited footage and edited/cropped/downsized footage, with the latter being relatively small files. I would like to have those smaller (4k) videos available for residents to stream on an app like Plex or Jellyfin. While I will have informed consent from patients for public display, and there will be no identifying information in the videos, I would naturally want storage and access to be as secure as possible. I am thinking of the QNAP TS-473a with an added GTX 1650 GPU, or the TVS-h474? My computer is a MacBook M2 Pro. I don’t need to edit from the NAS, so I don’t think I need 10GbE? Thank you!

I really like the Aoostar WTR Pro NAS, but wish it had 10 GbE instead of 2.5.  I would run TrueNAS and ideally want to use the two NVMe SSD M.2 Gen 3x4 slots for SSDs.  This would leave the smaller M.2 slot open.  I realize that due to lane restrictions, the I may not get the full 10 GbE bandwidth, but would still get greater than 2.5 GbE speeds. What would then be my max throughput in this scenario? I don't mind a hacky solution that would require leaving the bottom ventilation plate removed from the system.  If this is too crazy, is using a 5 GbE external USB dongle an option to get higher throughput without resorting to lagging the two 2.5 GbE interfaces? If so, which one would work best?

So we will be hosting our first nas. I think a Synology nas will be the best put together for my situation. We have 2 computers, 4 iPhones and 2 iPads that will be sending photos and videos. I thought it might be fun to have a plex server, but we mainly want to back up important photos. Could I start with a two bay nas and upgrade from there? I read about having another backup off site, but didn’t want to drop too much. I thought about a two bay and move up to 4 bay in a few years.i figure I need maybe 2 tab.

I have an iMac (10 core i9 ~2020 issue) and I have my Drobo5D3 hooked up via thunderbolt. I'm looking for a replacement DAS. My dream would have 12TB or more tiered storage solution that I can use to store my iTunes library for media streaming to my house. All the units I see all require RAID HDD or expensive SSD solutions. I have an old QNAP TS-1685 and I'm playing with TrueNAS scale and Unraid for backup storage. I find those servers too slow to use as network shares to stream from. I'm IT OAP hence this is my hobby, so I am limited in funds.
