M2 with it for PMS and nzb file downloads? |

Just picked up a used DS920+ to move from my DAS. It will be used for Plex Server and library storage, using SABnzbd or NZBGet incorporating SONARR and RADARR. Should I invest in M2 cards for cache or pooling to increase download efficiency and speed, I am on a 1Gbps line.
Or should I invest that money in larger capacity HDD? I have RAM in hand to install once I receive the unit. Thanks for the help.

Looking for Home/Work NAS |

I am looking to setup a home NAS.
Both me and my wife work in the creative industry (Photography, Design, Web Development) and we both work primarily from home. We have a 2.5GB home ethernet network and we have 3 Macs, 2 laptops and a bunch of devices. We have a current data store of approx 22GB, across multiple HD drives, with the 2 main macs backed up to the cloud via BackBlaze.
We need to be able to access the NAS data both from the house and externally, as we also have a studio that we work in less often.
I am not sure about:
- the type of NAS I should be getting
- whether I need SSDs
- do I need a new BackBlaze account for the NAS
- how does the file sync work, do files always reside on the NAS or do the files sync back and forth to the NAS from each Mac. How does this effect working externally.
Key requirements:
2.5GB ethernet minimum
40+ TB to start
OS that allows Plex etc
Maybe a Hybrid model with HD & SSD
Thanks, Kieran

guidance on home file serving |

Former net marketing, mostly music recording related field with lots of large files, and training videos from a small home setup.
Currently using 10 year old Lenovo Windows server 2012 r2 with a couple of 4T drives, a 1T and a few repurposed drives of sound libraries.
Instead of updating the OS with windows, which might require hardware upgrades, either wanting another OS or purchase an NAS.
3 windows, 3 mac os, 2 android, 2 iOS .. just me, but might have several of these at the same time.
I also have a 2012 late Mac Mini with a 1T SSD that could possibly be repurposed as a server.
Thank you for guidance!

Is 223j still worth getting given that the J series is coming to an end? How long do you think I might be able to use it before it becomes obsolete?
Thank you!

Terramaster set |

Hi everyone. Brand new to this. I bought a F2-210, added 2 x 2TB seagates and followed terramaster NAS setup 2022 video which I found very helpful. During the process it advised that I should choose Btrfs and not EXT4.
Unfortunately it would not allow me to choose this. I did not complete the setup and returned several months later. Upon returning I tried to edit this and scale the storage pool without success. I then decided to reformat and start again.
I have now found that I can only get as far as the admin settings page. I complete the username password etc and followed the video, click can’t receive email, skip this. I also clicked next.
I have contacted terramaster they pointed to my network connection which is not the problem.
I’m in a situation where if I send for a verification code it, counts down, sends a code which I send I copy over and repeats the previous actions
I’m hoping someone out there can help.
Thanks

NAS Build Recommendations |

Hi,
I’m a huge fan of your YouTube channel & this website.
I want to build the ultimate future proof home NAS/server with a budget of up to 10,000 USD (there is no such thing as overkill). Also, I want a board with as many Gen 4 or 5 PCIe lanes as possible (x16 and x8).
The board, memory, chip, and etc are up to you.
I really appreciate your input. Thank you.

Connect Terramaster F4-424 direct to PC |

Hello from down under and firstly thanks for some awesome reviews. Best I have found.
This is my first NAS LAN setup.
I want to connect my Terramaster F4-424 Pro NAS direct to my PC (Windows 11) to store and retrieve video files and photo files relatively quickly.
I have 4 X 4tb SSDs installed in TRAID and I also have 2 x 240Gb SSD set up for Hypercache.
My PC has 1 x 2.4 LAN Port.
TOS Software has been installed on NAS and RAID configured and now I just need a direct connection as my PC is nowhere near my router, and as I don't need software updates, direct will hopefully give me quicker access to files in shared folders.
I just need to know what to do to get the fastest connection between the PC and the NAS direct and if that means shared folders or what I really don't know.
Regards David

Terramaster to replace QNAP NAS |

I have a QNAP TS-328 that I want to replace. Have been waiting for new hardware from them for a while--not sold on the current systems.
The Terramaster F4-424 (not decided on the model yet) options seem to offer some important features that I want--better virtualization--but nothing too big.
I use my QNAP to backup my OneDrive and house my ripped CDs, and photo organization. Would like to use for multimedia, but kind of wimpy for much.
Big concern is moving my data from the QNAP to the new NAS. How easy is that to do?
Have enjoyed and learned lots from your YouTube channel.
Thanks
John

Using Synology Surveillance Station with cameras that are NDAA compliant |

Related to NDAA compliance: I'm not focused on strict compliance (no government contracts, etc), but I would like to hear your thoughts on security risks (and potential mitigation strategies) involved in using Reolink cameras on Synology Surveillance Station. Are there alternative, comparable NDAA compliant cameras compatible with SSS that are closer to price point of Reolink?
In particular, I'm thinking of getting the Reolink PoE Doorbell, but Reddit threads all say that it is not usable in SSS (it is generally compatible, but 2-way audio features don't actually work well enough to be useful). I couldn't find a NDAA compliant doorbell that is fully functional only via Synology (as opposed to using the Reolink or Amcrest app, which may introduce security vulnerabilities)

First NAS |

Hello!
I am looking to purchase my first NAS but after all the research I still am not entirely sure which one may best fit my needs. I am looking for something that can hold media files mainly comprised of music, voice over, and various video. I am also looking for something super user friendly and something that would have a little bit of longevity in terms of upgrades, mainly in storage.
I've been looking at the Synology vs. UGreen route and have just finished watching your most recent videos on that subject as well. I think one of these two would be a good fit but I am also very open to other options that would fit the above needs. Love your work and hope to hear from you soon! Thanks so much!
Joe
