I about to upgade to a newer NAS some time in the near furure and was considering all SSD based system. I was just wondering because NAS for me anyways is goint to used for severral years (my current Asustor NAS is 7 years old now) what is your take on SATA SSD drive future? Currently there is no spec wise a system that would satisfy me. Asustor flastorage is near ideal ideal (because of NVME and lots of drivebays) QNAP TBS-h574TX great cpu, but lack of drivebays.

Hardware wise (CPU, drivebays etc. because of transcoding) QNAP TVS-h874 would be perfect but, I am a bit wary on those SATA SSD and are they going to be hard to come by or be obsolete in the furure. Of course i know they are going to be obsolete somewhere in time, but timeline is a bit uncertain.

So basically is going down to SATA SSD route, in your oppinion, goin to a mistep in the long run?

I have a qnap running the latest QTS. I've upgraded to 8GB ram
Bay 1 : 3TB, bay 2 : 4TB. → RAID THICK volume (WD red drives)

I've recently setup Qumagie with AI core, but its so slow I'm aging as I wait for images to load. I found the UI to generally very slow and un responsive . Im runing 2x apps in the virtual stations and 3 containers. Im considering adding a PCIE expansion card to allow me to add an additional M.2 SSD slot and then a 500gb ssd where I want to load all my apps and run QTS. Will this solve my issue or am I better off upgrading my NAS to something newer that includes a PCIE or consider switching to Synology ? Adding a Expansion card and M.2 is going to be a $300 AUD exercise and Im not entire sure if it will provide me with the benefits I need to fully embrace moving off the cloud and running apps locally. Currently my QNAP is just too slow to do anything with it.

Finally got here through your awesome videos. Thanks so much for all the work you put out there in information. I am super confused after days and countless hours of research. I need a NAS-DAS 8 bay system. I originally thought the QNAP TS-873A-8G Business High End 8-Bay NAS Server was a good option but later realised that it cannot just be upgraded with a PCI E card to be Thunderboilt accessible as a DAS. Mostly my needs are for directly attached storage but occasionally sharing files over the network or the internet is needed too. Could you please advise on my options for the best and most affordable solutions out there? QNAP? Terra master? Others? Also a bit scared of all the ransomware stories out there but mostly plan to be disconnected from the web. Any help through this minefield would be super appreciated.

I presently have a Netgear ReadyNAS 204 system with 4 Samsung 6 TB drives. It is set up using the NetGear pseudo raid software. I presently have more data to save to the NAS than it has space so I am looking to upgrade to a larger storage capacity. I saw your review of the UGREEN NASYnc DXP4800 Plus NAS and wondering if this would be something that would be worth trying or if you would recommend something else. There was nothing in the review that mentioned any RAID support. It seem like this sort of redundancy is important. The Netgear system seems to power the drives down after a period of time which works well for me since I use it mainly as a backup device and occasionally as a data transfer mechanism,

Okay, so we have a small car tuning business and we're in the process of launching a file service, meaning we need to be able to let customers in via a Portal, downloading and uploading files from our server. NAS security is mission critical for this.

Volume
File size is around 500kB - 8MB.
We expect 10-50 files per month in the first year (nothing)
We expect 100-200 files per month in the second year (nothing)
We hope 1000 - 3000 files per month from the 3rd year.

Your services
1) We're thinking to get the Synology DS923+ as it's robust and small business focused, however we'd like to rely on your experties to choose the right NAS.
2) We'll need you to configure that NAS, including RAID, caching to SSD, anything that makes it a very secure and robust storage for what we need.

Want to replace google drive (with ability to have it download to all computers), google photos (with ability to see/delete duplicates and keep highest quality image), back up 5 computers, 6 smartphones, backup whatsapp, plex server. Based on my reading desire RAID 6 for protection. I think I prefer a pre-built system however I have some experience building computers and doing minimal coding tpye stuff but never worked with linux. Probably prefer a prebuilt (synology vs qnap vs ugreen or whatever you recommend) Like the windows/android apporach vs apple approach to software but since this will be brand new to me can go either way.

Can QNAP DAS Devices be connected to TrueNAS scale? DAS Devices like the QNAP TL-D1600S. I currently have 180TB of data but it's in a super power hungry DAS shelf (Netapp DS4246). I'd love to save some money on the power bills by buying one of these DASes insread of the Netapp. Any testing or advise you have done on your own would be helpful. Even if you could make a video if it works or not would be even more helpful!

I am going to buy my first NAS and leaning toward Synology. Everyone talks about transcoding on the NAS, but why not just point a Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin server installed on a PC, ZImaboard, etc. to the NAS where your media is stored? The PC would need to be capable of transcoding of course. This does not hog the NAS CPU with transcoding. I am doing this now as I have a Win 10 PC with Drive Bender (no longer in business) where my media is stored and I have PLEX and EMBY server installed on another Win 10 PC. I have tried to get my Nvidea shield to be the server but have not been able to get it to connect to my storage on my media PC yet. I don't see any downside to to doing this. Maybe someone can tell what the downside to this could be. Thx for any input!!!!!!

Hi, have an old TS-493 Pro II which is running for quite some years now and looking for a followup. Mostly for strorage movies, music and personal datar. I stream from my NAS with a Dune player of VLC running on AndroidTV. Running Raid 5 with 4 3TB drives. Budget is NAS only. Looking for a futurepfoof update. Might add VM and TimeCapsule for my MBPro and some Windows backups. Any help, tips or suggestions are appreciated

I'm looking for a NAS that I can use as:
1. A Media Server, using Jellyfin prefferably or a similar free-open source product.
2. A Steam Library that I can move games to/from or just run them from entirely.
3. An emulation ROM directory
4. A General storage for photo's to replace Google Photos/iCloud.

From watching a few video's etc I've come to the conclusion that I likely want a 2.5gbe port, but beyond that I am confused and feel out of my depth. I can find things like the Asustor which has, apparently, been made with gaming in mind but whether this would be suitable for my other requirements I am unsure and other systems appear to do those better at the expense of gaming.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
