I am looking to upgrade my 3TB DS218 as I need more storage, my only real complaint against the DS218 is that it takes a really long time for time machine to see the older back up files and restore them if needed.
I use the NAS as a single camera monitor, as a DLNA server without transcoding, and as a Time Machine backup, nothing fancy.
I would like to take advantage of my 2.5GBe home network speed to improve my Time Machine lookups from my 10GBe Mac Mini so am considering the QNAP TS-262, QNAP TS-264, Asustor AS5402T, TerraMaster F2-424 and am concerned about which software (QTS,ADM,TOS) would be best suited to my needs?
I like Synology but looking for something quicker.

Recently purchased a Synology DS224+ with 6 GB Memory (added 1 Synology SODIMM Non-ECC RAM DDR4-2666 4GB (D4NESO-2666-4G)), and 2, 4 TB Hard drives (Seagate IronWolf ST4000VN006). It's doing well in terms of handling my meager data storage needs but not sure about adding surveillance cameras. Considering eventually having 6 (Initially 3) WiFi ONVIF cameras; with a 2:1 mix of Outdoor:Indoor cameras. My confusion comes in as to what camera units would work best with my NAS or if I should use a cloud based service to do the computational processing & storage heavy lifting?

Hi. I currently have a DS1019+ populated with 5x12tb drives. It is now at full capacity. I'd like to upgrade to another synology but need help! My current unit is 90% a plex 4k server. Is there an upgrade route you would recommend?
Is there a new synology nas due out that would give me more data storage and improved overall performance?
Thank you in advance for any response.

Hi there, long time listener, first time writer!
Over the past 2-3 years, I've accumulated storage in different sizes and formats, 11TB in total:
- Two Crucial MX500 4TB 3D NAND SATA 2,5
- One Crucial P3 Plus 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2
- One DELL 2230 M.2 SSD 1TB PCI Express NVMe
My primary use case is backups (photo/documents, at 2TB right now), and my dream scenario would be to combine all of these drives into 1 enclosure, set up a Raid1 or Raid5 and use it only when I need to do backups.
I saw your reviews of the Terramaster D5 and D8 and thought "this is it" but I wonder if there's a better solution for combining these drives and if possible not to rely on my win/mac machines for setting up raid?
Or would it make more sense to break these up into two enclosures, one for the two 2.5" ssds and one for the two NVMEs?
Thank you, and thanks for all the helpful videos and write-ups!
Francis

Hello,
I'm can, a blind software developer, former Apple employee and content creator.
I used WD pr4100 for a longtime, but upgraded to FS6706T with 6X 990 Pro-4TB and 16GB ram recently.
Everything goes well, however just listened your review of 6806 and thinking is it werth to upgrade? type-c connection, ECC RAM, faster processor seems good.
Apart from this, is there another solution for full-NVME NAS on the market that supports latest technologies?
Unfortunately Asustor ADM software does not have accessibility support (WCAG etc.) and it is hard to operate with screen readers. Possibly as a software dev I can understand how to solve them and did everything that I want.
Thank you very much for your awesome content and happy to see that talking is important than visual content for you :-)

Limited to 3U rack space shared with other equipment. So max height of 5ā for chassis. Only need a NAS to allow scans from HP network printer to all devices in office to grab scans. Will require multiple folders with different user permissions but only for 1-5 people max. Was considering the Terramaster F8 with only 2 nvme drives which would sit horizontal on the shelf with fans facing front of rack to blow air out the back. Is this the lowest cost and is the TOS easy to hand over to less technical people once initial set up is complete? Should I be considering any other model? Goals are 1) lowest cost 2) under 5ā height 3) easy to manage network shares for likely 3 users (network backups, VIP user, general user). Only need enough space to store minimal backups for ubiquity OS/config and run TOS. Thanks!

Hi
Have a DVA3219 with DSM 7.1-42661,
1). 8TB main drive with SHR storage pool and BTFRS (stor pool 1 ,vol1)
2). 8TB surveilance drive ext4 (SP2, vol2)
3). 4TB surveilance drive ext4 (SP3 and vol3)
I bought a new 20TB drive to replace the 8TB drive. I want to remove the 8TB drive from the DVA3219 and use it as backup in an offline Synology device, with the 20TB drive remaining as the main drive.
I (mistakenly!) added the 20TB drive to the same storage pool (SP1), however it only reflects 8TB being available in storage pool 1, i.e. limited to the size of the original 8TB drive (I do not need the replication as I want to remove the 8TB drive).
I have since deactivated the 20TB drive, with SP1 now showing as "degraded". I have created SP4, vol4 on the new 20TB drive and moved data from SP1 to SP4.
How do I now proceed to get the system & settings, apps & settings etc. from SP1 to SP4 so that I can remove the 8TB drive (SP1) without having the reconfigure the whole system?

| New NAS to replace current QNAP |

I have a QNAP TS251+ - almost seven years old now. Currently running two WD Gold 1TB drives, mirrored. hitting my limit on storage. Just purchased two new WD Gold 4T drives and looking at upgrade NAS. While I have some tech skills and background, don't want to spend much time on it. 1 camera on my network. Plex Server. General file backup from my Windows PC and my OneDrive. I hesitate to purchase a QNAP right now as their 2 bays seem rather dated. Terramaster? Asustor? have ruled out UGreen for various reasons (also no surveillance app. I can put off increasing my storage and upgrading for a little while longer - so no huge rush. But I wonder if I should wait for a new QNAP 2 bay to come out? I'm guessing this year as it has been three now since they have had a good refresh? Thanks for your help in advance.

I sent something earlier, this is a continuation. I really like the Synology DS223j from what I read. I like the sofetware, especially Name Recognition. I have now spent a lot of time reviewing the products and I amd begining to think , for the money, the DS224+ sounds good. Will it take an 8 TB per slot? Does it have RAID... and there was something about active backup? Does it have all the software of the DS 223j. A lot of folk do not seem to like the DS224. Is the '+' Better. For the money, is there somethingesle I should consider. A suggestion. When you start your review, can you mention the approx date. You like coffee? I take it you are in the UK. Is there a Tim Hortons nearby?

Watched your revivew betwen Synology DS233j and TerraMaster F2-212. (May have erred on names, but doing this from memory.) Before watching I was ready to purchase the Synology ājā. But then you almost talked me into the TM. What would be a good compromise? I want the software of Synology because of Face rconigtion, and the expansion and back up abilites of the TM.
