I have set up the NAS f4-424 and have it connected to the network and have set up the volumes and started to move files into a PLEX folder but every time I have o shut it down to adjust hardware I am getting notification about abnormal shut down. I am holding the power button down until it goes dark but is there a better way to shut it down? Also is there a way to move the TOS software from one of the Hard Drives to on of the NVMe M.2 drives?
Thank you,
Brian

Looking advice for pre-built NAS i.e Synology/QNAP or DIY NAS |

I want to build a Homelab server to support docker, virtualization, NAS, and media servers.
1. I was inclined toward making a DIY NAS because it will have better specs & upgradability options but a pre-built NAS will have OS support & better security I guess. I have a budget of $300-$400 for the device without an HDD.
2. Which one should I choose SSD/ HDD if I go for the pre-built machine.

Given that recordings from a security camera and my qsync folders are the busiest apps i usewhat is the best use of the ssd cache, qtier, etc? any advice much appreciated.

NAS as a DAS? |

I am looking to store all my Movies, TV Shows, Music, Photos on a NAS or DAS so I can view them on my Apple TV box or Plex on an Apple TV Box. I bought the 4 bay Ugreen NAS on the kick Starter and still have not loaded it. Can that NAS be used as a DAS for my Mac mini M1? It it silly to do so? I have no desire to watch movies away from my home. Should I sell this and get a DAS? As you can tell I know nothing about NAS or DAS.
Thank you!!!
Jeff

Hello. I came across your you tube channel and can see you know a lot about this field. And would highly appreciate some recommendations if you have some time to help.
I am a video editor that only edits at home. I am drowning in external hard drives. So came to understand I need a DAS system as I don’t require all the features of a NAS and it’s solely me using the external storage.
I would love to have a quiet as possible unit. So 4 bay is more likely. But happy to look at 6-8 bays.
Currently after my research I’ve boiled it down to a
QNAP TR-004 ORQNAP TL-D800C
WD RED pro 24tb
Is there any better recommendations on what to do? I really do need a fast system for video editing.
Thanks in advance.
Daniel

Upgrading from DS918+ for Better Speed, Storage, and Photo/Video Editing Performance |

I’m currently using a Synology DS918+ since around 2018, and it’s been a solid performer for me. I have x4 6TB Red drives configured in SHR, but I’m beginning to run out of space. As a photographer who has also been diving more into video work, both space and performance are becoming critical factors for me. While I don’t work directly off the NAS for editing (I use an external SSD plugged into my MacBook Pro via a Caldigit Thunderbolt 3), I would love the option to do so. I shoot with Sony files that are about 40MB each, and my photo edits often include multi-layered images that can get quite large. I’d likely work with proxy files for 4K video content, but being able to edit both photos in Capture One and Photoshop and videos in DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro directly from the NAS would be ideal.
Right now, my DS918+ is connected to my Verizon G3100 router (which doesn’t support link aggregation), and it’s plugged into my Caldigit 3 with gigabit Ethernet. I know that for significantly faster performance, especially for editing large photo files or working with 4K videos, I’d need to consider upgrading my network infrastructure as well. I’m open to upgrading my router or buying a switch that supports link aggregation or higher speeds, as I want to ensure the NAS upgrade can perform at its full potential.
In addition to editing, I also run a small Plex server at home, primarily for streaming a few shows and movies locally. The idea of streaming 4K or 1080p content remotely is appealing, though it's not my primary focus. I’m also looking for a cloud storage backup solution from my NAS and the ability to easily share photos and video edits with clients.
I’ve been considering upgrading to the DS923+ or the DS1522+, but I’m also open to other NAS options like QNAP or similar. I’m very familiar with DSM and comfortable with it, but I’d appreciate any recommendations or advice from those who’ve experienced a similar workflow. If you’ve made similar upgrades, I’d love to hear about the improvements you’ve seen in both performance and overall setup.
Thanks in advance for your input!

Hello,
Is this NAS mobo, different from the one you made your YT video on??
https://cwwk.net/products/q670-8bay-nas-mini-itx-motherboard-upgraded-version-lga1700-supports-intell12-14-gen-processors-ddr5-dual-4k-displays-5x-usb3-2-8-sata3-0-ports-i226lm-2-5g-with-vpro-q670-2xsff-8643?variant=46801665622248
What would the power consumption be like as a NAS setup, the website mentions a TDP of 65W- 125W, can this be true?? If so, how to get the Power consumption to be lower??
Kind Regards
Vinay

Hey guys, I was impressed by your video content regarding Terramaster F4 424 Pro and Max.
Looking into best way to migrating data from my old DS220+ stored in SHR volume with BTRFS and not buying any additional HDDs.
Unfortunately I haven't seen any tutorial out there from anyboby.
Worth for you to make video about I would think.
