  Remote Access on QNAP NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-07-2025, 07:33 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am currently on part 7 of your QNAP NAS series and I enjoy it very much. Since I am using graphene OS on my mobilee Device Teamviewer and Tailscale dont work for me. What does work is Wireguard and OpenVPN. While I couldnt establish a connection with OpenVPN, the connection I got with WG worked on the first try but only inside the home network. Can I use WG to remotly connect into my network? IF yes how? And is there a better way to bypass all of that by using Ipv6 as a commentor under your video suggested?
Best

Re: Inquiry on Synology DS425+ and DS925+
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-07-2025, 07:33 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I would like to check which is the best Synology option (DS425+ or DS925+) to be used for Plex with a mix of 1080p and 4K ripped movies. Also, when I checked the Plex compatible list the Ds423+ has also the Hardware – Accelerated Transcoding while the Ds425+ does not, even when they use the same processor: x64 (Celeron J4125) 2.0 Ghz. I really appreciate your feedback on this.

Thanks and regards,
Jean Paul

PS: Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your videos.

4-bay NAS using file and media server, maybe docker container
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-07-2025, 07:33 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello,
I want to buy an 4-bay NAS with an AMD processor if possible and 64 GB RAM. I would also like 2x 2,5 GbE connectivity and using NVMe SSDs caching. I'm not quite sure if I would like RAID 10 for having performance and data protection or some other RAID version.
I have some experience with Synology NAS but not with other brands but I will learn using other OS if necessary.
I want to use the system as a file server, media server and maybe more like virtalisation.
So I'm looking for some buying advices.
Best regards
Andreas

Hi, Can the Minisforum N5 Pro can use non ECC DDR5 Memory?
If I bought the N5 Pro without RAM it look's like ECC memory is difficult to find. I've been hanging on for the N5 Non Pro but seems like it's always out of stock. Thanks, Martyn.

  Old RAID HDDs/New TS-464
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-07-2025, 07:33 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi there, I have two old HDDs that I had in a computer that no longer functions. I recall them being in RAID 0 or 1, but unsure which. I'd like to try to get the data off them. I have a new QNAP TS-464 on the way, and was wondering if I attach them in the system, will I be able to read and retrieve the data, will the QNAP recognize their RAID or is it specific to the RAID controller from my old PC? Please let me know if you need more information! Thank you!

  beat NAS for my uses
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-07-2025, 07:33 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I currently have a WD EX4100, which has been good, but I chose it a few years ago without fully appreciating what my needs would be. My needs now include PLEX at UHD (4k) if possible, DNLA for my over 1000 ripped CDs to play everywhere in the house, picture and video storage, and I am now looking to do off-site backup to another NAS. The best choices seem to me the UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus 4-Bay, the Asustor AS6704T Lockerstor 4 Gen 2 and the QNAP TS464. But after reviewing many of videos, I can't tell if any of these three will fit the specific needs. Appreciate your reviews and your advice. Thanks

  CPU Power Levels
Posted by: Enquiries - 11-07-2025, 07:33 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi Eddie and Robbie,
I've decided I want to build my own NAS as my qnap TS251 is just too slow. I've decided on Intel for the transcoding (I use plex) and was considering the i7 265k or the i5 235 which are around the same price. Would the i7 (125w TDP) be just as efficient as the i5 (65w TDP) at idol? In a NAS would the power draw be much different? The NAS is mainly for home storage use with a bit of plex so 90% of the time they should be idle.
Thank you.

Hi there,

Keen follower of your Ugreen videos and would love to get it purchased, alas got a little lost!

Could you tweak\ advise on the following please?

UGREEN NASync DXP6800 Pro
Samsung 990 EVO Plus, 2TB, NVMe2.0 Cache
16GB Kingston KVR56S46BS8-16 Value RAM DDR5 (x2 = 32gb)
Seagate ST12000NT001 IronWolf Pro 12TB SATA Hard Drive x6 (RAID 6)

Main usage:
Centralised Media - Jellyfin (Currently Plex on PC) currently have loads of usb desktop drives
Multi users accessing remotely, at least three (Probably transcoding involved here)
Dockers for The Arrs apps (Sonarr etc)

Worth adding aggregation? overkill?
Current setup: UDM SE> USW PRO 24> OSW Pro Max 24> U7 Pros u7 Pro Wall
Ubiquiti USW-Aggregation UniFi 8-Port Layer 2 Managed Rackmount 10-Gigabit SFP+ Switch
QSFPTEK 10G Single SFP+ Network Card for Intel X520-DA1, 10Gb SFP+ Port Ethernet PCIE Card
Ubiquiti UACC-DAC-SFP10-1M 1m SFP+ to SFP+ 10-Gigabit Ethernet Direct Attach Cable (10GbE)

Thank you so much in advance for any help!
