Migrating from Synology to Ugreen |

Hello and thanks for all the info you share about NAS!
My question:
- How to migrate from Synology to UGreen ?
1. I think that many of your followers are asking themselves the same question: how to migrate the data?
2. For me I have a DS218+ and was planning to get a DS925+ but maybe better move to a DXP2800 or 4800?
Is it possible to take one HD out of the DS218+ and put it into the UGreen, migrate all the data and then take the second HD and put it into the UGreen?
3. Another idea is of course to use the older Synology for backup of the UGreen: How do you backup the UGREEN? I haven’t seen that there is an equivalent to HyperBackup.
(Personally I’m using my very old DS213J to backup my DS218+ )
I hope that you’ll find this migration problems interesting and important as we Synology users are being pushed out step by step from that echo system.
Thanks
Henrik

Recertified Seagate EXOS 28TB for home TrueNAS system? |

I'm looking to replace my 5x 10TB WD Red Plus drives (in raidz2) in my TrueNAS Mini+ (from iXsystems).
I saw some really nicely priced recertified Seagate 28TB drives on Amazon, but can't decide if they are okay for my usage (home NAS with media, games, downloads, time machine backups, plex, etc... not a huge workload).
Do you think these are an acceptable drive for that?
I have heard they are noisy, but the NAS itself is about 6 meters away from where I sit, and my ambient sound in my loungeroom is about 45db, so I get the feeling I might not even notice the noise?
Other than that, should I be concerned that they are not specifically designed for NAS use? Backblaze's reports show that they use them, so I figure they must be okay?
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions you have!

My final NAS questions (hopefully) |

You've answered a few questions for me about my old DS1813+ and potentially moving to a Mac mini for Plex server. My thought now is to get a DS 1821+ (to avoid the drive issue), move my existing drives into that and add a 10GbE card and possibly additiona RAM.
This more expensive but hopefully preserves my investment in drives that are SHR-2.
What 10GbE card does the DS1821+ use? I can't seem to find an authritative answer.
What would you suggest for additional RAM? While I have my wallet open how much would you put into this?

VaultFS can use any SMR (or CMR, or inter mixed, or capacity) disk |

Our parallel distributed VaultFS (Vault file system for datacenters) can intermix CMR with SMR (latest tested is WD HC690 30TB) and any intermixed capacities.
ZFS can do neither. ZFS is limited to a single server.
Lustre can do SMR with difficulty, Fraunhofer's BeeGFS and CERN's EOS cannot.
None of the above have built-in parity (they depend upon layering above a ZFS scheme).
VaultFS overcomes all these limitations. You are welcome to try on a (possibly mixed) cluster of i86 or ARM.
See VaultFS in wikipedia Distributed_parallel_file_systems

I am a photographer and filmmaker in need of storage of my work media. I also plan to add two other users, my partner and our son, for basic files, backup and photos. I have purchased a Synology 1522+ and wonder what is the best way to set up the Pool and Volumes for the best longevity. Can you help with any suggestions?

I'm a NAS newbie and need something to store my backups and photos/videos/files, but I want to consider my future needs/wants too so I don't lock myself into something that's not upgradeable or that's destined for obsolescence. I'm an Apple user (iPhone, iPad, MacBooks, etc) and don't use PCs so I'd like something that works with Time Machine for backups. Currently, I use an external USB drive but I want something more secure as far as redundancy (i.e., RAID) and faster as well, both for backing up as well as accessing. I was considering a UGREEN DXP4800 Plus or a Zettlab AI NAS D6 Ultra, however, I also saw that UGREEN has another Local AI NAS upcoming for crowdfunding! I'm also considering utilizing Thunderbolt connectivity and going with a Thunderbay enclosure or similar! Help! I don't want to overspend (I certainly can't afford to!) on something more than I need but I do like the ability to use local AI to search for things! I bought 4 Seagate IronWolf Pro 14TB NAS drives fyi.

Plex server no longer connecting to my network after QNAP firmware update |

I have a TVS-h1688x
I recently updated its firmware to QuTS hero h5.2.4.3079.
Plex server was previously working in home.
Then I updated the firmware and am unable to connect to network.
MAPed network drives are OK.
QFinder is OK
Can log into NAS from MAC, Win 10, and Win 11. (MS Edge, Safari, Firefox browsers too ok)
Plex will not connect to the home network.
Error message states that the server is "currently unavailable"
Has anyone else reported this issue?

Would this work? 4 bay nas 2x16tb disk setup raid 1. either a 1 disk or 2 disk raid in the remaining 2 bays exiting 8tb disks as the backup.
Usage
I switch the nas on an hour a week to copy over my tv recordings.
Ability to archive emails
Not used for remote access or sharing files
I may get a few surveillance cameras
I don’t do gaming.

I'm looking for an automated PC backup solution (4 PC's) that is controlled from the NAS side (as in Synology) without having to configure each PC individually (as in TrueNAs, ASUStor, Aomei etc) My problem with Synology is I cannot find a 4 bay unit with 2.5/10GB network (the home is already wired for 10G) and GPU support for 4K/8K .mp4 video transcoding. BTW, I do enjoy and value your videos, Best regards
