Which Synology to replace 920+ |

Hey Robbie,
I was wondering what Synology I should buy to replace my dead 920+. I want one that I can for sure just do HDD migration on, I mainly also use it as a plex server so having hardware transcode is nice but not sure i can just buy the 925+ and drop my drives in due to vendor locking in hard drive brands.

Need to jump ship from a dying Drobo |

Hi,
Can't believe this is a free service.
I currently have a Drobo5N that I used to run a Plex server on.
As you're aware, Drobo no longer exist and I'm currently running sonarr/radarr/plex/sabnzbd on my PC.
I'm wanting a NAS that can run sonarr/radarr/plex/sabnzbd and most importantly be able to stream 4k content to 1 or 2 TVs simultaneously. Ideally a 6 bay so I can buy some 20TB discs and ad them in along the way.

I am thinking of setting up my own NAS using DXP4800 and wondered about a switch for it. I have a 1GB fibre optic internet system and have wired this to my TV but wish to put all of the family photos and videos as well as movies onto this NAS to share with everyone in the house. But am struggling with the switch as I'm after a 10GbE capable one for less than £100 but the info is too much!!! Can you help or point in the general direction at all please? Thanks

Hi,
I am a photographer and we are a team of 5. My requirement is i want to build a Nas with a used workstation pc like the hp z800 where i want to keep my event photos and videos so that my media team can access them for editing from both windows and Mac.i am planning for 20TB of storage. Max of 5 will be accessing the storage. Can u please suggest me the best NAS software and filesystem and raid configuration which suits my requirements and also suggest me wether i should use smb or iscsi for editing. My main priority is data safety, performance. I also considered synology but it will be costlier and i dont need the wonderful software packages and features that it offers as i use the nas to access data in my local network only.
Thanking you.

NMVe drives for Belink ME mini |

Hello Gentlemen,
Question after seeing the review I've bought the Beelink ME mini.
However (even as IT guy) I'm stumped about which 4Tb NVMe drives to use. I don't care about speed, I want durability and data security as it replaces my old synology 1511+ with 5x4TB WD red's with all family photo's etc.
But don't want so overspend without need or usefullness.
Could not find any usefull reviews out there and a tad scared to go for lesser known brands.
So do you guys have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance and keep up the excellent work.
With kind regards,
Dominic

Upgrading from dead QNAP TS-451 |

My TS-451 dies unexpectedly. Can't access BIOS so I think LPC problem. I could do the resistor fix but even if that worked no telling how long it would keep working so looking at replacing it. Use case is to store movies, home video, ebooks, audio books, lectures, etc. Only for my family access so 0-4 users (mostly just me) for plex. Also stores personal files for family members too large for OneDrive. I used your NAS Builder tool and one of the options it shows is the TS-453E. Looks good to me. Can I just insert my existing drives into it? I know from the QNAP website that I could migrate but from what if my old TS-451 is dead?

Use storage out of DX213 in DS925+ |

Hi,
Thanks for all the information. I now know I can migrate my drives from my DS713+ to the DS925+. I have a DS713+ combined with a DX213 and want to upgrade to the DS925+.
As I read here, I can transfer the drives from my DS713+ to the DS925+. I've fully updated my DS713+ and it's now running DSM 7.1.1.-42962 update 9.
Unfortunately, I'm being told I can no longer use my DX213, so I want to use my two drives from my DX in the DS925+ as well. Is that possible? Does it simply mean that if I put them in the DS925+, they'll run as a second pool?
Do you have any tips on this?
Or is it somehow possible to connect my DX213 to the DS9245+, just like there is a solution for the unsupported drives?
I look forward to your response. Thanks in advance!
Regards, Bob

Hi dear,
I kindly want to ask for an advice, having had a terrible experience with the QNAP TR-004, and good experience with TS-431P2, with same 4 x 3 TB Toshiba N300, I just needed more space, and thought about an expansion, bad idea, I would like to buy a new NAS, estetically similar to TS-431P2, and I was looking for a TS-433 (https://www.amazon.it/dp/B0BCQT9YKY/?coliid=I2YY5HT2URE13C&colid=C0GTF066ZNN0&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1) and a TS-453E (https://www.amazon.it/dp/B0B9YPJN7L/?coliid=I2YLT1N9DV0AZ4&colid=C0GTF066ZNN0&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it). The second seems more professional, dble capacity, but it costs too much, is there anything in the middle, QNAP only?
Thank you

Terramaster f4-223 4 bay NAS for files, VPN, jellyfin, and possibly other services if it is capable |

I currently have a nuc8i5beh running Ubuntu server for jellyfin with external drive media storage. I am looking to replace the external storage with a NAS with primary concerns being prevention of data loss and media streaming. If possible I would also like to host VPN, be able to use it as personal cloud and if there is remaining capacity possibly dome other non essential services. I was interested in zfs for data loss prevention. Would this unit work or is there a better option? Should I stick with tos or go truenas zfs? Would it be better to run jellyfin from the terramaster or the nuc? I appreciate ease of use and don't want to constantly have to be tweeting things but I am willing to put in the configuration/learning curve work up front.
