and terramaster Terramaster F4-425
Main usage plex mediaserver - streaming -media storage of milllions of photos, documents and back-ups etc
Terramaster have support for Plex but unsure of the TOS 7 ?
Terramaster do not have an 8 bay ??
Ugreen must run Plex through docker but ugreen seems to have OS closer to Synologys

Hello,
I would like some help purchasing the best NAS for my home network mainly to be used for PLEX movies and TV shows and for a few family and friends to watch possibly at the same time.
Movies are mostly 1080p to 4k and I am currently looking at the Synology and Q-Nap.
I am also seeing a fair few people on forums advising against purchasing these two brands due to restrictions, not sure how true this is.
Thank you, Gavin.

Hello.
I enjoy watching Nascompares on Youtube and now I'm looking for a new NAS myself. But the lock-in problems at Synology, the hard drive prices, and the silence surrounding Asustor and Qnap are making me doubt what to do.
I currently have a Windows 10 server with a J3455 CPU, an SSD, a 6TB hard drive for data, and a built-in 4TB drive to which I use a script to write backups. I also synchronize cloud storage on the server. Currently it's OneDrive but I'm planning to switch to pcloud or sync.com. The server's main purpose is hosting Emby Server. We have an Nvidia Shield next to our tv which is the main user. We are a family of two.
I want to better protect our data, so I'm looking for a NAS to run Raid 1 or Raid 5. If possible and financially benificial I'd like to reuse as many hard drives as possible. Besides the 6 and 4 terabyte drives mentioned, I also have a 3TB Seagate NAS and two older 2TB Samsung Spinpoints.
Self-building the NAS isn't my preference. I don't want any hassle, but something that just works. Hosting the Emby server separately on a NUC is an option. In that case, a NAS from Unifi could also be a good choice I think. For various reasons, I don't want a Chinese product. Ugreen, Minisforum, etc., are therefore out of the question.
My initial thoughts were a Synology or Unifi NAS, but I'm a bit stuck at the moment. A second opinion would be welcome.

Hello and thank you for all your excellent content!
I am a first time NAS-owner (UGREEN DH4300 Plus arrived today), but I wanted to let you know about a huge disappointment that might be worth mentioning to anyone considering buying this device.
It is not possible to boot this device into BIOS. This was confirmed by their support. I emailed them - their response is quoted below.
I bought UGREEN specifically because all reviews mentioned how easy it was to install TrueNAS. But since that is not possible, I will be trying to return the device for a refund.
Regards.
Robert
"Saki" from UGREEN Support said:
"Regarding your question, we’d like to clarify that the DH4300 Plus uses an ARM-based architecture.
ARM-based NAS devices do not have a BIOS/UEFI interface, so it is not possible to enter a BIOS screen using keys such as F2, F12, or Delete. This behavior is normal and expected for this model."

Hello, I'm looking to make a Plex Media Server with multiple devices streaming at once, including away from home. Also, I need it for Apple Time Machine back ups. Is it possible doing this with a Unifi NAS? I ask because I'm building a smart home using a ton of Unifi products so I figured I'd see if I could stay in that ecosystem. If not, could you recommend a rack mountable NAS? Thank you

I wish for a NAS with which i can remove the dependency on google photos. i would install opensource apps like jellyfin and immich alongwith other apps on the NAS. kindly suggest a robust solution which would last atleast 10 years. also could you suggest how to maintain it.

I currently have about 3 TB of storage. It's likely to increase, but not drastically and certainly not quickly.
I'd like a NAS that will last me years, and I feel like the current landscape is a bit outdated (Synology, QNAP, etc.), so I'm not sure if it's best to wait for new models, or do something else.
I'll primarily be using it to stream music and video to Plex, to run apps on Docker, and to do automated backups of my Mac and PC. For Plex, I would primarily be streaming a single source of HD or 4K video from my house. The NAS would be in the same room as the TV, so I'd want something that is not too noisy.
I was thinking of going with RAID 5 so there was a bit of redundancy in case of an error. Perhaps starting with 3 drives, and expanding to 4 later on. I'm also open to getting a 6-bay NAS, if that's a better option.
I'm fairly techy savvy. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
