Hello!
I have purchased Qnap ts-453d but I have a hard time finding smart ups online. Looking for UPS that would work with my Qnap and shut it down if power is lost. Not sure if I can buy any smart UPS or is there a certain ones that are compatible with it.
Thank you for your time!

Hi,
I am an avid photographer and want to have a folder of all my photos on my PC's storage drive AND have that synced to my Synology NAS. I am relatively techie so am surprised to be flummoxed in finding how best to do this.
If you have a video on this I'd love to know where it is to see if I can get set up.
Cheers,
Gordon - Littlehampton

Is it possible to link DVD movie files on QNAP NAS to play associated movie trailer in addition to brief description and poster thumbnail?
What is the recommended method to directly play DVD VOB files on 4K Apple TV from the QNAP NAS?
BTW, THANKS!!! for all the great information and videos.

Just want to start by saying amazing work mate, really amazing content even for people who are not NAS wanna-bes like myself. Love your YouTube videos ! You're one of the main reasons I got excited about NAS.
I'm looking to stop storing my data (pics, vids, documents ....etc) out of Google, icloud and the likes and I would like an option that is easy to use with a nice interface, and possible 4k video rendering and decoding in the future (nice to have). From your videos you seem to love the synology software; something of that capability would be great.
I would also be really thankful if you can steer me towards which affordable hard drives to buy, as I have no clue on that front.
Thank you so much and would live to hear from you in 24 hrs if possible so I can purchase and setup the NAS before my next trip.
Once again, thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you!
Cheers,
Saeed

I have an odd setup. Currently using an old 3Tb WDMycloud that has reached its end of life and doesn't support being updated anymore. It is used for file storage, with a seperate share for my Calibre ebook library and storage of Movies that are played from a Plex Media server running on a seperate Ubuntu server.
I use windows and Linux at home and WD has never really supported Linux. With the EOL of my current hardware Im looking to jump ship. It would appear that Synology may be my best option but was wondering what your thoughts were?
Can get a DS220J and 2 4Tb WD reds for about $330 right now on amazon.

Hello,
I've been watching your videos for a month or so trying to decide on what storage solution I need. I have a YouTube channel 731 Woodworks. I have been backing up, or storing my previous video footage on a couple of 14TB Western Digital Elements (I think that's the brand) HDD. Well, you can guess what happened. One drive won't mount and I've lost access to those videos.
I don't need networked storage. I need to be able to store and backup all of my video files and Final Cut Pro libraries for later access. I also want to be able to edit directly off of the NAS. I don't mind if the storage is on the network, but mainly I need to be able to connect and disconnect the storage from my MacBook Pro M1.
I shoot all 4k 30p footage. I need something I can connect to my Macbook and edit directly from the storage device while also having a RAID set up for safe storage.
What set up would you recommend? I am looking at this QNAP https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09KG3K4TZ/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_5?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 with 2 NVME M.2 1TB https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MFZY2F2/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 as well as six 14TB 7200RPM drives.
But during my research I've heard that QNAP have issues with being attacked by ransom ware. But I am not sure that a Synology has the connectivity I need for my Mac?
Thank you for any advice.

DS1522+ & Surveillance Station |

Hi there, my current set up is a DS920+ With 4x 6TB Seagate Ironwolf Pros.
I’ve pre-ordered a DS1522+ but having second thoughts…….that Ryazan CPU!! I need to upgrade to a 5-bay as I now intent to add a second separate pool for using Surveillance Station on a single 5th HDD - a 12TB Seagate Skyhawk AI.
Main use case;
Plex Media Server
SS running concurrently (5x 4K cameras in H254, 15FPS high Bitrate) utilising smart recognition features
Synology Photos for 3x phone photo backups
Main question really, does the use of SS AND Plex with those settings drive the need for a dedicated GPU for the playback? (I.e. the DS1520+?)
Secondly, can you have one pool using BFTS and one using EXT4 running on the same NAS?
Many thanks,
Scott

Thanks for the video. I am buying the ds220+ (I know 2 bay, you are warning me against) I have been using multiple USB drives for years and am tired of multiple disks. Anyway, getting two 18tb exos drives (Seagate Exos X18 18TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 3.5-Inch Enterprise Hard Drive 2-Pack - ST18000NM000J (Renewed)) to run a raid system. I don't know anything about RAID (please help) Going for the 8gb ram (ADATA Premier 8GB Single DDR4 2666Mhz CL19 PC4-21000 260-Pin SODIMM Memory RAM Single (AD4S26668G19-SGN)) add on. I thought I saw somewhere I could also add a PCIe SSD to the board. Can I? I am planning on moving my Plex server (w/lifetime membership) to this NAS. I also am planning on using it for windows backup, a cloud storage, and other things after watching this video. Where am I going wrong or should be doing?

1) Any way to update the kernel in my Synology nas?
DS1515+ has 3.10
DS1520+ has 4.4
2) Which nas brands keep the kernel updated regularly?
Thanks
