I need two computers to share everything
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-30-2023, 02:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I'm upgrading my internet radio station computers. I bought 2 Window 11 computers, 1 for the main & 1 for backup. But, they don't talk to each other. I need someone working on 1 to see what someone working on 2 has done. I also need it so that if computer 1 stops, then computer 2 can continue putting the music on air. The computers are currently attached to the internet route via ethernet cables (they don't have WIFI). There are no more ethernet ports on the computers, so can't use an ethernet cross over cable. All of the ports on my router are in use (one to a splitter that I have both computers plugged into.) How can I get these 2 computers working together? I’ll need a printer added eventually, too. I'm not tech savvy so will need very simple instructions on how to make these work together, or happy to pay someone to come do it for me. Thanks.

  DS218 memory upgrade
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-30-2023, 01:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Dear Friend,

I sometimes have trouble with the buffering of videos to my TV from my NAS, so i do wonder if upgrading the NAS memory is any solution?

It only happens when i "stream" large 4K movies from PLEX, if i stream straight from my NAS to my TV the issue is non-existing.

A RAM recommendation is always welcome if that could solve the issue.

Kind regard!

Joachim

Data migration from Drobo 5D to QNAP TS464
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-30-2023, 02:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Looking for options to migrate data in a macos environment to perform data migration from Drobo 5D (DAS) to QNAP TS464 (NAS). I would like the ability to verify data and resume file transfer if interrupted. CLI or App is fine. Current searches lean towards using rsync in CLI or something like resillo sync app.

  Volumes and Shared Folders
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-29-2023, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I used your first video to set up my DS720+ with 2 4T WD Red drives. I followed your super guidance and split the pool (RAD 1) into two volumes of 1.75T each. One for me and one for the wife. I then created the shared drive folder and finally figured out how to do the map thing to my windows PC file explorer. OK all fine, but I'm confused on the shared folder. Where does it reside? Volume 1 or volume 2? How do I see the mapping between volumes and shared folders? How do I ensure that my volume and shared folder isn't or doesn't become the same as my wife's shared folder and volume (not set up as yet.)? Which of your videos should I look at next to get a handle on this?

Nas migration 8-bay to 4 bay
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-28-2023, 07:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Currently using Synology 1821+ with all bays filled with ironwolf pro 8TB drives. Was gifted an Synology 923+ for Christmas which I would like to use as main NAS and the 1821+ as backup NAS. I have purchased 12x 12TB irowoolf pro drives to updated both boxes. Can you assist me in the best way to get the current data located on my 1821+ to the new drives in the setup I am planning. Do I make a backup of all the data and just restore data onto the boxes after I have set them up? Is there a way to migrate my data in a easy way

  New drives or new Nas?
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-28-2023, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, i currently use a WD myCloud EX2 Ultra (2x4TB in Raid 1, 6 years old) that i use for backups and general filestorage for my family, myself and my friends (5 Users with seperate folders, secured with passworts and one public folder) wich means I need more storage to be future proof.

I don't need AI for pictures or Hdmi for playback to a tv, but maybe I would try out plex in the future since I have an external HDD (5TB) with some movies on it and I want to play them on a fire tv stick

Should I only upgrade the drives on the myCloud, or should I consider a new Nas?

Kind regards
Stephan

VLAN issue with RT-6600AX / firewall logs
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-27-2023, 11:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi guys, recently bought at RT-6600AX after seeing your review. I set up a VLAN for IoT, but I'm having trouble using my TV (Panasonic GZ1000) on it. It works fine on my primary lan, but errors Gateway not Responding when on the IoT VLAN. Every other device I've tried on the VLAN works. I've not been able to find anything obvious that might cause this, and I'm a bit stuck. Having gone around SRM looking, are there firewall logs? It would be great to see what exactly is happening in terms of traffic to and from the TV.
Many thanks!

  Non Media Server NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 01-27-2023, 09:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi. I am looking for my first ever NAS. Now at first i wanted to do a NAS with a PLEX/Jellyfin Media server. Then i realized i dont want to stream anything from my NAS and i just can store my movies and TV shows and can just watch them on my desktop. So i dont need PLEX/Jellyfin.

So currently my use cases would be :

1) Basic Storage: Documents, my 3D model/textures. Movies/TV Shows

2) Photos: A very important thing that made me want to buy a NAS was to get away from Google Photos. I dont want to delete anything on my or my parents' phones. I heard Synology has a great Photos app that works like Google Photos but saving on my NAS.

I dont think i need a TON of storage. My 3D stuff would be limited to a maximum of 2 TB and my media would be a further 1 TB. At most another Terabyte for photos and videos.

With that in mind, what should i get? Brand, 2 or 4 bays and CMR/SMR drives?
