Hello, following you for several years now.
I want to replace my DS1812+ with a new 8 bay.
I wait on the successor of the DS1821+.
Or can I buy the 1821+ ?
I like to have the possibility to use SSD as storage wich is a feature on the DS923+.
Do you know if the DS1821+ will get this via a software update ?
Kind regards, Karel

2 Bay NAS for SS |

I already have 2x 1821+ NAS.
However, I am looking a 2 bay NAS (I won't need more than 2 bays) solely for the surveillance station. I have 5x 4K Reolink Cameras already. Possibly will add 2 more. So the NAS just needs to be able to run these.
My 1821+'s will do everything else I need including backups photos etc.
So I just don't know what 2 bay NAS to get for surveillance station.
Any ideas? I have hoped a DS220J would be okay as its cheap, but this it's too underpowered.
Given the increased cost of everything right now, I want to spend as little as possible.
Thank you.

Hi guys
I recently purchased DS923+ and upgrade from 9 yrs old DS414.
I got two new Ironwolf 12TB drives put them in 923+ and copy all of my files from two 4TB Reds using Hyperbackup.
New drives are BTRFS and SHR1. All good and dandy.
But I have two more 6TB ironwolves in DS414 I want to migrate to DS923+. If I just move them over to 923+ to the same slots would I retain all the data? I really don't want to spend another 24+ hours moving and restoring via Hyperbackup. I don't mind these staying as RAID1 and EXT4.
Any advice?
Thank you
Jason

Picking a NAS for Roon music and Plex and surveillance cameras |

Hello,
I really appreciate your videos on YouTube. Very educational. I purchased the TVS-672xt i5 and I am wondering if that would be enough to run Roon music and Plex media with a surveillance system. On Roon they suggested having the Roon core on SSD so I wanted to use the NVMe SSD on this unit for storage for that. Is that possible? They also said to use 2 bays 6TB mirrored raid 1 with 1 bay 6TB for weekly back up. As far a Plex and the cameras what raid setup would you suggest? I guess my ultimate question is do I have the right NAS for what I am trying to accomplish. I didn’t want to use SATA SSD in one of the bays because I only can afford a 6 bay and wanted that room for HDD. Any info would be a big help. Thank you in advance for your response. Merry Christmas!

Hi,
Hope you are well. I want to purchase a NAS device as an alternate to cloud services and external hard drives that I currently use. Following are my key requirements. Can you please advise some options based on your expert opinion?:
- I will be using it at home primarily to backup pictures and videos from our phones and playbacks.
- Access to the NAS wirelessly at home and remote through an ios app. Need the user experience of the app to be not slow.
- Secure when accessing remotely
- Ability to back up the NAS to an external hdd periodically as a fail over easily by plugging in the drive directly to the NAS. Helps me decide if I need a 2 bay or single bay.
- Ability to retrieve data off the NAS hdd in case the NAS enclosure fails (easy data recovery from NAS drive)
Thanks in advance for taking time and answer the question. Your videos are very informative and gives a good overview of NAS jungle.
Regards
Karan
