I have approx 1500 DVDs, and I am looking to transfer these onto a home server and access them as described in your videos. I don't know where to begin; if I hazard to guess, then I end up going through the typical engineering rabbit hole of paralysis through analysis syndrome or making one of the eight mistakes. I have watched many of your videos and read many of your online documents. Thank you so much for all of your effort in making the videos and online content, it was a help, but that paralysis is creeping in.
Mostly the system will be for the DVDs and movie/show content. I have a few computers and would like them to share files and backups.
Again, many thanks for your time.

Hello there. I'm wanting to get a NAS, and I'm looking at getting a Synology 923+ with 2 WD Red Pro drives in maybe the 10-14TB capacity range (leaving the other slots for future expansion if I ever need it. This is likely overkill for me, as realistically, I'm wanting to store my music collection of a few TB, a few TB of photos, and have space for a small business I'm planning on starting (likely some graphics files), but possibly a SQL database.
I'm wanting to set it up in the extra room of our apartment, which doubles as an office/guest room.
I'm a bit concerned about the noise, but I'm assuming I can either shut the NAS down if we have a guest over, or that I can enable some low-power/idle mode for when it's not in use. Does this sound problematic to you from your experience? I haven't had a NAS before, so don't have really anything to base it on (I did have a first generation Drobo). Any help or advice would be appreciate.
Thank-you,
Chris

Hey. Hope you are well. Been watching a lot of your YouTube’s which are very good I have to say. I’m after a 2 bay home NAS mainly for storage to be accessed on my home network by laptops, iPads and phones. Not looking for a plex setup just something most likely with 2x8tb for mirror backup. I would like to future proof as much as possible with something decent that I can add a bit of RAM to and ideally has NVME for that extra bit of speed.
I will probably stream a few videos I have saved but these are only basic MP4 and alike so I don’t need transcoding I think.
Can I ask what you would recommend for me please. Thank you very much. Mike.

Hi,
Looking to purchase my first NAS for home. It will sit in the electronics cabinet near my modem, router, switch and PLEX server. The cabinet is located in my living room where my TV is. Needs to run quietly.
Watched a dozen of your videos on possible choices (great job BTW) and decided the Synology product line may be my best choice. The QNAP TS-233 was a neck and neck competitor with quiet performance. I'm leaning toward the Synology product line due to their easier (newbie) UI and their commitment to addressing security breaches quickly.
That brings me to two choices, the new DS233 or the older DS220+ model. The 220+ looks like it has much more capable hardware, but is it getting pretty dated in 2023?
What would be your thoughts on the these two choices and any other Synology box that I may have missed?
I would likely populate the NAS with two 4TB WD Red Plus HDDs. Good price point, and relatively quiet operation (from your TS-233 sound video.
regards,
Karl Shubert

Hi, I have a RaspberryPI with USB drivers attached to it and shared with Samba. It sits under the TV. I'm looking to replace it with a 4 bay NAS but fan noise is a critical concern due to device location. I'm planning to have 2x 8TB raid-1 and 2x 4TB raid-1 volumes as i already have 4TB drives.
Could you suggest a really quiet NAS for me? Or advise if it is even possible have a that quiet device? HDD sounds are acceptable.
Thanks.

Hello,
As a new NAS user I've been watching your YouTube reviews with a lot of interest.
However I'm now stuck with the set up process of my iPad.
I'd like to sync some of my data of my Ipad with my Synology NAS hence using the Synology Drive app.
However while stetting up a new sync task I can specify the destination folder on the NAS but it looks like I can't specify any folder on my iPad. It says "a folder will be created in the File app".
On the other hand I don't have such an issue on Android and Synology as I'm able to specify the origin and destination folders.
Would you be able to help me here ?
Thanks in advance for your support.
Nicolas

Hi, I am a complete novice on NAS drives & Cloud facilities. I have a Mac Mini 1TB of storage ( its nowhere near maxed out), I have an iPad & iPhone. I use a Maxtor external drive 500MB as a back up to the Mac mini but its getting quite old. I live alone, no other users.
I would like something that has a least two drives, so one backs it up reducing possibility of loss of data. I want to be able to use Time Machine (if there anything better please advise) and i want to be able to easily connect to my iPad & iPhone to change around my music and photos.
I am considering Synology as I have a friend who swears by their easiness of use. What would be the “best bang for my buck” NAS drive?
Many thanks for your advice. Watched a few Youtube videos but probably made myself even more confused. I hope you dont mind this suggestion but can you do a video series of ‘idiots guides ‘ because as a novice all these different technical terms, are way beyond my understanding at this stage ?
