  New HDD for Synology NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-08-2023, 01:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

In Dec 2017 I bought Synology DS218+ and 2x Seagate IronWolf ST8000VN004 8TB
Now, these HDD are full and need to be replaced, mainly because of my RAW images (I'm a photographer).
What would be the best upgrade? I'm thinking about 16/18/20TB where I find 20TB money wise a bit much and I don't know if my NAS allows 20TB.
The NAS still works, or do you think it's better to upgrade the complete set? NAS + HDD.

Thanks!
Kim

Looking an easy entry level setup
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-08-2023, 04:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi

Just a middle aged woman with no computer building experience looking for a backup solution.

I want to have wireless backup of my phone photos (android) and backup of my laptop files.

If there is something with software that will auto backup my photos with a wired connection to my phone, that is fine too.

I do have an nvidia shield that runs plex so i could turn that into a server later.
////

Looking for a rec to buy an entry level nas backup.

I want an easy way to backup my mobile photos and my laptop. I need auto backup...if i have to drag folders over after initial setup i will just forget.

I was looking at WD my cloud home but I feel like I can do better.

I have an nvidia shield which is a plex server.

synology ds220j software for auto intuitive uploading, archivingand deduplication of photos/vids/documents/files
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-07-2023, 08:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Im a NAS novice& use the synology storage analyser and synology drive and photos app to help upload phone photos and files/documents from 0hone to NAS during charging whilst asleep. However i have plenty & i mean plenty of duplicates from previous manual uploads on the NAS before. I find the aforementioned apps dont have intuitive enough capabilities to automatically prevent duplicate uploads or even ways to get rid of duplicates without manually having to aift through it all which is awfully cumbersome.my question to you all you expert folks out tgere please is there an app i can put on the NAS and my phone which puts photos documents files etc in a sort of library type of system in set folders automatically and prevents duplications and also actively gets rid of duplicates on the NAS. Im looking for something that I can wake up one morning in Lanzarote and log into to the NAS successfully and copy a photo onto my phone for printing on i dunno a tshirt or album or whatever.   DS2422+ RAM Upgrade in Pairs Only?
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-07-2023, 04:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Have a DS2422+ on order. Want to upgrade the RAM. Watched your video. Comes with just one stick. All your upgrades were in pairs. Can I replace the Synology ECC 4GB stick with a single third party ECC 16 GB stick or do I need to use two ECC 8 GB sticks? Thanks !!!

  Bricked terra master f4-210
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-07-2023, 02:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I bought a NAS from terra master to hold all my files. I backed it up, but for what ever reason it bricked itself. I contacted terra master and they have not returned any of my e-mails. normally i'd try and get another O/S like open media vault or true NAS on it but there is no monitor so any attempt to change is a no go. I was wondering maybe you have or know some one with a TOS 4 image I could clone???

Thx for the help!!!

  firecuda 530 2tb + alecgear heatstick installation on ps5
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-07-2023, 01:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

hi good morning I have a firecuda 530 2tb without heatsink, I would like to mount it on ps5, I bought an alecgear heatsink, I have some doubts as the 2tb f530 is double sided, how should it be mounted? should the spongy shims be placed underneath? What thermal pad should it be placed on? should it be put all over the surface or just on the controller? waiting for your reply, I send you my greetings Enrico

  DS212J to 223
Posted by: Enquiries - 03-06-2023, 06:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I'm currently using a DS212j for home use.
Largely storage of video, audio & photos. Download station enabled with VPN.
The CPU of the NAS is regularly at 100% resulting in a slow GUI (I don't recall this being an issue initially)
Would I likely see snappier performance in the GUI with a 223 model ?

Video streamed to a Nvidia Shield with Kodi so no transcoding required

Thanks
Matt
