Which NAS |

Hello, I very much enjoy your videos!
I have a QNAP TVS1282, i7 with 32gb, about 7 years old now, with some fairly new Sienmens 4TB SSDs. The NAS seems to have packed up, I think dodge's slots, but it's now in read only, and I've had hassle over time with it, so would like to change.
I use it for:
1 - storing c12tb of music & streaming to my music player
2 - streaming movies to my TV over HDMI (but it doesn't like 4k)
3 - storing PC files backups
I wondered what you'd recommend. Ideally I'd like something not too big, and not as loud as the 1282. I was looking at the QNAP TS-H1290FX, but that's perhaps far too over specced for what I need, your review for the TS664 which looks decent.
I was planning on using a new MAC MINI, connected to the TV with HDMI, and then just having the NAS behind it storing the movies & music. I am not very technical, so really didn't want anything overly complicated. My priorities: fast, quiet, playing 4K, easy to manage... Thanks so much!

Synology DS1621+ successor |

Hi I am an owner of old Synology DS412+ and I was looking at the DS1621+ for an upgrade.
The point is I was considering the released dates of the DS1621+ and wondering when this will be discontinued. I would like to avoid to buy it and then find it goes out of production.
I am using the NAS for digital storage, PC backup, but I was considering to have in future a couple of virtual machines for my programming experience with Java.
Do you have an idea when the successor of the DS1621+ might come out?

Seeking recommendation for M.2 NVME drives for TVS-h874 (i7) |

Hi NAS Compares,
I'm a videographer and I'll be using the M.2 slots as a separate volume to edit my videos from, over 10Gbe. I think I'll need at least 8TB in that volume. My ideal scenario would be to get one 8TB drive for now (like the Corsair MP600 Pro XT), which will leave a slot free so I can get another 8TB down the track. The NAS will be on almost all of the time (often sleeping). Do you recommend that Corsair drive in this use case? Are they reliable?
QNAP doesn't list any 8TB drives as compatible and they only recommend one 4TB drive - the WD Red SN700. I'd prefer to get a Gen4 drive though. My computer is a 2019 iMac 27", which has an NVME SSD built in. I think my current setup would benefit from having a Gen4 drive, yes? Gen4 would future proof it for when I upgrade my computer too.
My other notion is to get 2 x Firecuda 530 4TBs.
Thanks!

NAS for Photography/Video |

Hello! Looking for a NAS as primary storage of RAW photos and 4K videos. I am often off-site and need to access it to upload to and stream media from. If editing can be done on it it's a bonus, but I can do it locally and upload the results. I use Lightroom for organisation and light edits, Photoshop for larger prints, and Premiere Pro for videos. I currently have only about 2.5 TB of data, so there's no pressing need for massive storage space and would rather upgrade when required. RAID 5/6 is required, as well as possibility to have cloud backup. Thanks!

M.2 WD Black in a low usage home NAS? |

Hi there and thanks for the videos and help. I'm going to be picking up a Lockerstor2 Gen 2 for automated PC backup for 1 PC as well as using the NAS as an occasional Plex server for our family of 2.
Being that this NAS will be pretty low usage, I was wondering if I could put in WD black M.2 SSDs vs using WD Red.
I'm thinking of putting in 2 TB in Raid 1 to start which is sufficient space for now, and adding more storage later - either 2 more M.2s or traditional hard drives.
Love to get your thoughts on the WD black for my application. I have the WD blacks as the main drives in my PC which gets more use than the NAS would get - thus my question.
Thanks and enjoy the coffee :-)

I've been recently watching your videos on You tube and they are great.
Can you help me with my storage and direct attached situation.
Brief history: I'm a freelance photo videographer graphic designer and going to do some you tube.
Also a Data horder as 50yr old and had many images and graphics from past jobs. Years gone bye. Yes I need to weed it all out.
Plus all my home family imagery plus movies I ripped years ago I have which we use to use Apple TV to watch Until Streaming was invented.
Ive had Drobos ( had 5d, 5D3 and and 8d and (5d3 stopped working).
my drobo It’s been acting very weird so decided to go for a NAS even though I have tried Drobo NAS in the past and been abysmal.( so sold that on eBay)
IM a Mac person not a pc person so this is hard for me. Was gonna go for synology 1819+ what do you think witb 10gbs into my Untra Mac Studio. What would you suggest.
Thanks in advance. jen

Hello guys, I follow your channel for quite a while and it's brilliant!
For a few years I am considering to get myself NAS. I am photographer and the main reason for getting NAS is to backup my photos. Currently I only have 4TB external drive, 4TB internal drive and 10TB internal drive. Apart from photos there are also movies, music and other usual stuff. But the photos are the most important. Also, I currently have Raspberry Pi 2B serving Logitech Media Server, PHP and MySQL server, DNS, etc.
What I am hoping for is to have NAS for backing up my photos, serving media, have docker containers running Logitech Media Server and other. I almost bought Synology DS920+ but then my hopes went for DS923+. But I am kind of disappointed with its specs.
Anyway I prefer Synology and DS923+ still seems best choice.
Not sure which drives to use, I have WD Red now. Capacity 12TB+ each. Two as backup hence 4-bay NAS, not sure which RAID configuration. Btw seagulls in the background are cool ;-) Thx
