Asustor 6704T setup

I read and watched your reviews on various NAS devices which ultimately helped my decide on the Asustor 6704T, great stuff and many thanks!
My question is: I remember seeing on one of your reviews a comment about setting up the M2 SSDs to run in RAID 1 (mirror) for data security.
With this in mind my thinking is 4 hard disks (2x 10Tb new HDDs, and 2 older, existing 6tB HDDs I already own) which will be setup as 2x RAID1 (mirror) for data security, as well as 4x 1Tb Samsung M2 SSDs.
The Samsung M2 SSDs I was planning to setup as 2x 1Tb RAID1 mirrors; one for the ADM OS/software and one as a cache.
Is this a sensible setup? Data security is most important. I won't be using this NAS as a file or media server, only for backups.

Jumbo frames on 10Gbe

So I have installed an Intel X540-T2 10Gbe card in my desktop PC and it connects to my QNAP 453Be (with 4 x Ironwolf 14TB drives and a 10Gbe PCI card installed). I was configuring Jumbo Frames but can't match the 2 devices. The nic offers 9000 MTU but the NAS offers 9014 MTU. Is that a match? Are they supposed to be exactly the same numbers? Doesn't seem to be an option to directly enter an umber in either case - just select from the drop-down box. File transfers work OK - 235MB/sec from a single HD and 280MB/sec from an SSD. OK for single drives and I hope to get better when my second QNAP NAS is wired into the 10Gbe network.

Was watching the video streaming vs. physical media as well as your video on NAS Synology setup Part 1. I'm planning on buying a NAS although I haven't yet. I'm planning on using it mainly for videos to and from my Zappiti and Zidoo (video media player devices). On the Zappiti website they give instructions on setting up Zappiti with Synology's Docker program. Do i need to do this or would I want to have it? Why or why not do this? thanks for any insights you may have

What i idealy would like is to be able to transcode 2 min at 4k plex streams on the nas.I have no idea on bit rate of files but now more than 40gb for a 2hr movie mostly less 10-20gb.
Also to be able to remote into a torrent client from my pc to start and store torrent on the nas.
For the torrent functionally also looking to run my pia vpn.
Been looking at QNAP TS-464 NAS from what ive seen plex performance is good but weary of the vulnerabilities of having it connected to the internet ie for torrenting.

Hi,
I have a RS1219+ and was looking to update the HD to 18 TB but on the Synology compatibility site, there is no 18 TB HD are listed.
Do you know if I buy 18 TB HD, they will work in this NAS and if yes, are they any drawback to use none compatibility HD on this NAS?
Thank you for your help

DX517 install

Hi There,
I'm looking for some advice on installing 2 x DX517 expansion units with a DS16121+ NAS.
I simply want to add more capacity to my existing storage pool. The NAS cuurenly has about 90TB on it and is rapidly running out. The new expansion units each have 5 x 20 TB drives installed and ready to go.
I found this video about installing the expansion units and as 12.25 he mentions that not all drives appear on DSM as available when trying to add an expansion unit to current stroage pool. Is this correct, if so is there a way around that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ah-xermfmM
Also can I continu eto use the NAS once installed and the RAID is re-configuring?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Jack

Wondering if you could do a test, (if you have one that is), with a QNAP TL-D1600S, but running off a Truenas system?
Might also be an interesting video also if it works.
Thanks

Hello,
I watched a lot of your videos. I'm interested to buy a 1 bay storage NAS mainly to backup my photos and videos. I see there are mainly two options - QNAP or Synology. I like the idea to have something like self hosted google photos.
My question is - with QNAP can I have multiple users that will have something like their own "google photos" accounts on my NAS server? For example me and my wife both to have QuMagie on our mobile phones and each of us to have its own set of photos that will be AI processed and tagged.
In a YouTube video I understood there is such option with Synology, but I like more QNAP.
I think the multiple "photos app" accounts is a deal breaker for a lot of people, but both companies say nothing on their features pages about that.
