Threaded Mode Mirroring QNAP T464 to local machine
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-15-2023, 03:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

After watching all your videos, I decided to purchase the QNAP T464 and am watching the "QNAP NAS Setup guide 2022 #1 video and I got stuck on min 41, mirroring my nas onto my local machine, you video looks like your entering the windows security password, so i entered my login details for it says I can't access.

I think this is a MS windows security issue, what am I doing wrong here?

I have adminstrator rights

Additional detail about setting up Qnap
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-15-2023, 12:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I thought you might like to know that after carefully assessing your “setting up your Qnap for the first time” vids, I’ve spotted a gap in the knowledge you’ve provided.
I’ve also identified this gap from an email chain on the Qnap forums.

When trying to transfer all your old nas data to your new Qnap nas via HBS 3 active sync mode, you left out mention of the idiosyncratic issue with the sync set up of the source folder: for whatever odd reason Qnap have chosen, if you attempt to browse to find the folder you want, the whole of HBS3 will hang, requiring a reboot of the whole machine.

You must manually type in the source folder path, only after which will the system find it and present you with a dialog to choose the actual folder or sub folder you wish the act as source.

This is on QTs 5.0.1.

I’ve currently solved this problem on my new TS-664 and ammerrily syncing all my data from old Drobo as I write this.

My thanks again for your really helpful videos!

  NAS Upgrade Recommendation
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-15-2023, 06:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello! I am a big fan. Found you guys on Youtube and cannot thank you enough for the help. I currently have a 8TB WD MyCloud Home which is starting to fail. I am now looking to upgrade/pivot. I am hoping you could help me with a recommendation?

My biggest use cases are:
1. PLEX
2. Client Data (Graphic Design, Raw Video Files, etc.)

For PLEX, nearly my library is either 720p or 1080p. I rarely deal with 4K. However, I do have a decent amount of HEVC (H.265) and MKV files, and want the playback to be snappy and efficient.

For clients, I am looking primarily to store and share files with guest users to view/download.

Other features or capabilities (like mobile app ease of use) are nice but not as critical.

The NAS I seem to be gravitating towards currently are the Synology DS220+ (with upgraded ram) and the QNAP TS-253 but open to any thoughts or suggestions.

Love you guys! And thank you so much.

  Newbie - 4K Plex Server
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-14-2023, 11:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

First and foremost, you guys are awesome! Love the site. I'm a total newbie that has been running a Drobo 5N for a decade. I have decided to make the move to a new NAS. My wish list is a NAS that can handle most 4K, including transcoding, maybe a couple of streams at at time., hot swap drives, and I do like Drobo's ability to utilize different sized drives.

I was leaning towards the QNAP TS-464, but your comments that the learning curve is steep on the software OS side scares me a bit. However, you don't have a single Synology on recommended, which was surprising.

SO..... do I take the plunge on the QNAP and hope I don't F-things up too bad?

  Drives for DS423+
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-14-2023, 09:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi. Can You please help me decide which drives would be compatible with Synology DS423+ (I never had NAS before) and better to use?
Drives are:
TOSHIBA Enterprise MG07ACA14TE 14TB (272,98€ -cca 240,38£)
WD GOLD WD102KRYZ 10TB (294,74€ - cca 259,54£)
Seagate Exos X18 512E/4KN 10TB (280,14€ - cca 246,69£).
None of them is on official Synology compatibility list and if I can I would go with most space since all of them are about same price (local prices).
NAS will be used for file sharing and multimedia sharing and local backup of 4 PC and 1 laptop.
Thank you for all help You can give me.

Video Idea: NAS + Nvidia Shield TV Pro + Plex
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-14-2023, 08:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

NAS + Nvidia Shield TV Pro + Plex AND video idea
Most of my home videos are MP4 files but I would like to have some 4k video files to stream. Would it help if I added the Nvidia Shield TV Pro to my NAS in order to stream 4k videos over DS Videostation or Plex? Would this extra piece of equipment help to transcode since the DS1522+ doesn't have integrated graphics? Or would it be pointless to have an Nvidia Shield TV Pro (pros & cons to adding this to my NAS)?
Thanks,
Rob Smile

  Western digital outage
Posted by: Enquiries - 04-14-2023, 07:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

6tb wd MyCloud died - bought 20tb MyCloud home duo android os unimpressive, found a cheap MyCloud on eBay 8tb use for media svr dlna
Wd outage confirmed my doubts about duo - no access to files, so I have been watching your yt vids to seek a better san - could build one or buy purpose built. Former job in IT gives me some hardware and knowledge- thinking Synology or Asus or unraid based on dell xps 870 tower.
