  Synology DS+ roadmap
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-15-2023, 10:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Been following the channel for a while, and have decided to go for a Synology, based on the software they provide. Main app I'm interested is Active Backup for Business, to backup the multiple devices in the home, and be able to do bare metal recovery.
Looking at DS1522+, DS1621+ and DS1821+ (possibly use SHR-2)
What is Synology's update roadmap for these 3 devices? Do I wait 6 months for a possible update to the 6 bay or 8 bay? Any thoughts on possible future CPU (Ryzen?)
Thanks for all your good work.
Chris

I have a quick question I have a ds1019+ that decided to fail on me today spoke to synology its a few months out of warranty so they wont help me but we have a hardware failure. All the drives are fine and there really isnt much data on the hard drives but its important documents i really need. How do I pull the data off the hard drives and store it on a working nas? Is there special software needed if so is there one you recommend? I have a ds1621+ that is working i use for my movies its full of 8tb drives not sure if that can be used to pull the information off the drives

thanks for the help

  Nas setup
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-15-2023, 03:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

I am a photographer/videographer and currently have a terramaster raid storage which I actually just use as a hdd hub and store bulk files until the hard drive runs out of space. I dont have it setup as a raid.

I am wanted to purchase a new setup which I am looking at a nas setup so I can have our editors access our footage from anywhere in the world.

So we will need decent file storage capacity, the ability to access it anywhere at anytime.

We will never be editing directly off of this but simply just use it as backup storage or after a shoot I store it here and our editors can download the shoot onto their ssd and edit from that. Once they are done they can upload it back to this system and we can then final check and deliver it to our client.

We would love to know which nas system you recommend for our needs.

Thanks for your time and talk soon.

Joel

  Looking for advice on 224
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-14-2023, 11:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello, I read the article at https://nascompares.com/2023/07/14/synology-ds224-vs-ds220-nas-which-should-you-buy/

Synology feeling like a nice system.

Would you recommend the DS223j instead for $189 rather than the DS224+? Or would a used DS220+ like costing $230 on ebay be good?

I just want to have something for backups. Own some portable hard disks, but mostly want convenience of automatic backups - if I can put something on a NAS and Synology run everyday some program to do the backup for me so I don't need to plug and unplug, and manually do it myself and leave the computer on

Any recommendations? I was thinking of buying 2x8 TB hard disks and just having the NAS clone the disks for me

Cheers

  Buying choice
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-14-2023, 08:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have over 100TB of photos, spread over various OWC Bolt drives I want to consolidate them and then use the OWC drives for backup My computer is an apple studio with a M! ultra chip, Im trying to decide between a Synology 1821+ with a Dx517 expansion unit or go for a 12 bay unit, but Synology requiring Synology drives bothers me so If the recommendation is a 12 bay which 12 bay in Synology r snap flavoring makes the most sense? or is the Synology 1821+ with DX 517 expansion the best choice? In the future id like to be able to access the system to display my photos as well as uploading files taken from all over the world. Thanks in advance for your help

  Synology 2 Bay NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-14-2023, 03:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello, I currently have the Synology DS216+II and I am looking to upgrade it. I primarily use the NAS for storing and streaming movies and am looking at moving to 4K movies. I already have 2 x 4TB HDD's. What synology 2 bay would you recommend between the DS224+ and the DS723+. I thought the DS723 was not as good for 4K content, please advise.

Thank you

  SHARED FOLDER
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-14-2023, 02:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,
I just came across your video last night about setting up a NAS for the first time, and I"ve had my DS214Play for knocking on for about 15 years, but I noticed on your video.. you set up the shared folder, now I've got a shared folder and all the other folders on the same branch.. and I wanted to ask does that make any differece.. although when I map the drive I have to do it individually for each folder.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thank you sir

Hi
I have a ReadyNAS from Netgear, and they just turned off my remote access as this is EOL

I have a spare laptop (Dell 5420) with broken Screen, I was wondering if you think it is worth for me connecting this to the Readynas to upgrade this to a better hardware or shall I buy something like Synology
I"m using a MAC and iPhone as my main PCs and phone

Thank you in advance for the advice

Peter

Lightroom Catalogue Backup from External G-Drive connected to mac Mini M2 to a Terramaster f4 423
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-14-2023, 11:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I have over the last 12 years worked with numerous NAS drives, more recently with QNAP units. I have in recent days purchased the above unit, and after upgrading with 2 by 8 GB Crucial 2400 SODIMMS, I have to say I am quite impressed with the new unit. I have a large Lightroom Catalogue which in the past has been backed up in the past with Qsynch to a QNAP NAS from an external G-Drive on my Mac Mini M2. What would you suggest is the most reliable software for the Mac to achieve the same synchronisation onto this new TerraMaster. I have had recent hardware problems with the QNAP units and loking for alternatives which do not cost the earth. TerraMaster appears to fit this bill, Any suggestions or guideance from yourselves on this matter would be appreciated. Kind Regards
Douglas Gray
