  Installing Handbrake on Synology NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-09-2023, 01:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi There,

I am looking to install Handbrake on my Synology NAS. I know this has to be done via a DOCKER program. Im not very familar with the technical terminology around this kind of logic. I got halfway through the installation, but just cant seem to figure out how to do this. All videos i have seen arent really helpful with the setup. You have previously assisted me and your tutorial videos are super simple to follow and understand why you are doing what you need to do. Hoping you can assist

Regards,
Wesley

  DS220+ fair price
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-09-2023, 06:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I am currently finding the DS220+ at 315 USD and I heard you on one of your videos that the NAS usually goes on sale. So I was wondering if this is a fair price to purchase, or should I wait. More importantly, I have listen to few of your videos praising the DS220+ for home, personal, photo management, Plex uses for entry levels like myself. however, is it still the best giving its 2 years old now?

  Best RAID Set Up
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-08-2023, 10:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

The best RAID to use if I want to use if I want to only use 2 bays and then upgrade to 4 bays later. I have already bought the DS 923+ and 2 Seagate Iron Wolf Pro 12TB hard drives. I would like to upgrade to 4 bays later and would not like to start all over.

  NAS RAM
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-08-2023, 10:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

After debating back and forth regarding my first NAS purchase of either AS6704T, AS5404T and QNAP TS-464-4G
I’ve decided to follow Ed’s advice and go with the QNAP for the smoother software experience.
Since I’ll use it for editing and storing video files, drone files, ripping 4K movies for playback, etc. I’m having to decide on upgrading the 4Gb to either 16GB or 32GB RAM.
I want to ask for another honest and humble opinion, Would it be worth the extra money to up the RAM from 4GB to 32GB or go with 16GB? Would it be wasted memory?
Keep up the good work we appreciate all that you guys do.

What is the right NAS for my use case?
Posted by: nasifyme - 06-08-2023, 03:06 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi All,

First of all I'd like to thank everyone for making this community available! Great that there are people who can help an amateur like me out with everything related to NAS.

I am considering to buy a NAS, I am inclined to Synology due to the software. However, I'm open for other brands. The two use cases I have (for now) are:

  • Run a plex mediaserver and stream movies in 4K (HDR) to my TV. (and stream to iPad)
  • Create periodically backups of my Proxmox server..
  • Create periodically backups of my Google Drive, iCloud Photos and (not a must) Macbook.

I'm curious about what NAS would fit me well but also what would be a good setup for my use case!

Thanks a lot.

Posted by: Enquiries - 06-08-2023, 07:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I currently have a TVS-672XT + 8bay JBOD expansion.

Its looking like I'm going to need more space on my NAS, would it be possible to add another JBOD expansion? or am I limited to 1?

  NAS capability...
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-07-2023, 10:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (2)

hello, Just a quick question, Im looking to set up a new NAS drive function for work, but i want to know if there is a product geared or with the ability to integrate / manage accessibility levels. For example, if finance staff only need access to finance files and field workers only have access to relevant information etc...

Is this a possibility via a NAS drive or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Kind Regards,
Hayden

  Mem Upgrade DVA1622
Posted by: Enquiries - 06-07-2023, 06:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Recently bought a DVA1622 and set up with 13 cameras. Primary reason was the HDMI capability. However, with the monitor center on via HDMI cpu and mem utilization is consistently above 90%. Synology tech recommends lowering camera resolution or increasing memory. They have not identified what memory to add to the already "maxed" me config according to them. Do you know of any unovvicial mem upgrades for the 1622? Thanks
