NAS advice |

Hi there at Nas Compares,
I would like to ask for an advice / confirmation before making the jump.
Currently I'm running a Synology DS215J and using the NAS for the following:
- Plex for video files
- 2 camera's in Surveillance Station
- Synology Drive Sync to upload/sync my photo's
My biggest issue with it is the slow ARM based processor. Obviously the ARM based processor does not support any transcoding in Plex, but displaying photos in the Plex clients is painfully slow and just not usable.
Transcoding is not a necessity for me because I make any files direct stream compatible for all my devices I stream from. But could be a nice to have for the cases where it doesn't work.
The other issue is that I'm currently not running a RAID setup that would protect my data, therefore I'd like to get a 4 bay NAS instead.
For the above requirements I'm considering the DS923+.
Just as a confirmation, would this also be your recommendation? Would the speed of the Ryzen processor be fast enough to display a photo slideshow for example? Or would that benefit more from the Celeron in the DS423+?
I'm following the YouTube videos you are releasing, but the Plex Photo functionality is never talked about. So for that reason I imagined it's better to ask.
Kind regards,
Memesa

Greetings! I absolutely love your YouTube channel, and I watch it often - Thank You for all the information. I utilize Netgear everything, ugh! Netgear Nighthawk 2.5 Gbps (CM2000), Nighthawk X10 (R9000), and ReadyNas 426! As you are probably aware, ReadyCloud is going away 07/31/2023, and I'm not quite sure what this means to my NAS, as I am not just PC Ignorant, I am PC Stupid, lol! I Use the ReadyCloud, but despise it, so I don't see this as much of a loss, So that being said, will my NAS now stop working as of 07/2023, or continue to work, or should I use it as a boat anchor, and purchase a new NAS (You seem to like ASUS Gen 2). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. PS, PLEX is what is mostly utilized, as we have about 650 movies...

Hi!
I‘m thinking of buying a NAS for my home network to store primarily my pictures (RAW-format) and videos as well as data on it. A private Cloud system would ve nice too. since i‘m new to that subject i feel a little bit lost so you might give me some information and guidance. I was thinking on using 2 4GB HDDs in Raid 1 to prevent loss of data if one HDD should fail after some time.
Kind regadrs
Alex

NAS RECOMMENDATIONS |

Here is what I am considering at the moment:
QNAP TS-464 8G US
Asustor AS6604T (Amazon has a used one at $508).
The difference between this and the newer AS6704 is minimal from what I have found so far.
I have a WD 20TB external drive that currently has all my digital media stored on it. I have about 10GB digital audio files on it in iTunes m4a format that I would like to stream, but the vast majority of my content is MKV and some MP4 video files. The total size is about 10TB at this point, but I will be adding more 4K UHD movies and 4K TV shows in the future. I would also appreciate your recommendations for what size and type of drives would be best for my NAS configuration.
I would appreciate any feedback or recommendations as to what NAS would best suit my needs. I also plan to upgrade the RAM to 8GB and add M2 NVME cache. I'm not sure what amount of cache would be best fit for Plex.

Currently running a Netapp DS4246 with 24x 3TB HGST SAS, but it's power-hungry, loud, and the power supplies keep failing and are getting hard to come by. Drives are very old, could start failing any time...
Looking for a NAS with reasonable resiliency, will be backed-up to cloud. Need at least 50TB, but I'd like more space than that. Being able to run plex and other containerized apps (sabnzbd, sonarr, radarr, etc.) would be great, as would hardware transcoding.
I'm currently considering WD Red Pro drives, in a Synology ~6-bay NAS.
Thoughts/ recommendations appreciated.

I run Plex from a desktop to multiple TVs at home thru wifi, thru Roku Plex app. Occasionally another remote user accesses my Plex content.
Been looking to offload the workload from my desktop CPU. Thought NAS might accomplish this. I have approx 1TB of media, but with more capacity could quickly get up to 2TB, possibly 4TB in a year.
Almost all my content is 1080 or less. Most files are 2GB or less.
The NAS would be strictly a media server and file backup device.
Looking at the Terramaster F2-423 as a good value option.
But is a NAS necessary at all? Might I be better served with running ethernet cable thru the attic and upgrading internet service to 100MBps?

QNAP TS-464 or ASUSTOR LOCKERSTOR 4 Gen2 or Asustor Flashstor 6? |

Hello,
I am looking to replace my 8 year old QNAP NAS (TS-253A with 2 3TB disks in RAID1 and 2x4GB of RAM).
It sits behind the TV in the leaving room. My main uses are Plex and docker (portainer / pihole / wireguard).
Disks are at almost full capacity since a few months and docker could use more RAM.
I kept it mostly offline for security reasons (ports blocked), tho I would love to be able to read my multimedia files when I am out of home.
So today I am contemplating these 3 options:
A. QNAP TS-464-4G , +32 GB of RAM, + 2x12TB disks (WD Red Plus) and install TrueNAS Scale for peace of mind
B. Asustor lockerstor 4 gen 2, +32 GB of RAM, + 2x12TB disks (WD Red Plus) and keep the default OS
C. Asustor Flashstor 6, +32 GB of RAM and 2x4TB of NVMe (Crucial P3 Plus) and keep the default OS
Option C seems best for the silent and power consumption but will it be equally powerful as the first 2 options?
Cheers
