Posted by: Enquiries - 07-08-2023, 03:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Is there an alternate enclosure for shuked WD drives, I am hoping to find a way to keep them a bit cooler as at the moment I can fry eggs on them.

  NAS Pick Help
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-07-2023, 07:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Currently we have a Synology 216+II and we are using it for plex, music, backups, sync files, videos and photos between laptop/desktop computer, photoshop backup. I have been considering switching to another NAS for more bays of storage and cheaper drives. The current NAS can have issues if to many of these tasks are happening at the same time and playback of some unconverted files is difficult. I was also considering getting away from a ring doorbell and keeping the data in my own device. The 1621xs+ would be the most i would want to spend on one. I had considered the 1621+, 923+ and even qnap. I am more of a set it up and forget it type of person. What are your suggestions?

RAM upgrades for DS + series
Posted by: cdpage - 07-07-2023, 04:08 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (4)

Having never looked at RAM for 2GB, 4GB before I had no idea it was so affordable.

DDR4 non-ECC SO-DIMM 4 GB can be found for $20 or less! Begs the question why are the + Series models still shipping with 2GB!? 4GB would cost less than $5 extra. we could expand to the 8GB potential... but that's a rant we've all heard before.

Now that I'm finally going to be able to pick up a DS223+ DS224+, for an extra $20 (CAN) it seems stupid not to buy the extra RAM.

That said, information out there is confusing so I'm hoping to get some clarification.

1. does Mhz matter? 2400Mhz based on your YouTube or is 2666Mhz ok?
2. Installing 2GB vs 4GB vs 8GB+ (online users are report installing 8 and 16 cards)
3. Does an extra RAM card equal more heat or electrical. Assuming the same work load.

Unable to sync mobile phone with Synology Drive
Posted by: angelsurfer - 07-07-2023, 08:33 AM - Forum: Technical Support - Replies (1)

Hi All,
I recently encountered an issue where my Synology Drive on my mobile phone is unable to sync to specific folders on my NAS.
The error message I get is attached.
The problem is I don't recall setting anything to any folders that may block this.
Any advice is appreciated.

Posted by: Enquiries - 07-07-2023, 12:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi. Followed your YouTube video about setting up plex to my nas. I used plex before I bought a nas using a wd passport to access film and music on other devices. Bought a nas and now want make it easier with a network. Followed your YouTube set up video but when Iv installed plex it then asked for my pin number then after that its saying not authorised. Didn't get to search for my nas or anything that happened in your video. Iv granted all the files permission so I'm really confused. Please help

DS212+ died, upgrade to DS923+ what problems to expect?
Posted by: juergen69 - 07-06-2023, 08:42 PM - Forum: Technical Support - Replies (1)

Hi there,

My DS212+ just died today (it was not reachable, blue led was blinking). When I tried to do the good old "have you tried to turn it off and on again" - the fan tries to start for about a mm and stops and the whole thing is not doing anything (without drives inserted)

I wanted to upgrade soon anyway, so I ordered a DS923+ today.
I saw a video claiming i can just put the hard drives in and it will magically migrate - is it really that simple or are there problems to expect?
I do not think that the drives have damage, i accessed them yesterday without issues. My guess would be power supply/motherboard.

Or is there any other way to access the file system before I try to upgrade?. I tried connecting them to my PC - Bios found them, but windows did not see them.

thanks for any tipps/tricks/warnings in advance.

Juergen
P.S. "Funny" how it just died so soon after the end of life e-mail from synology... right before my vacation.... perfect timing... not Dodgy

  DIY NAS BUILD
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2023, 05:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I want to build a HTPC/NAS for IPTV/PlexServer/KODI. I use the IPTV function 60% of total usage. I use Nvidia Shields on 3 TV's and although they are OK, they do buffer and stutter when streaming IPTV and using KODI. I have to often reboot to clear settings so as to minimize buffering and stuttering. I have a fiber optic 1GB connection so plenty of bandwidth. When using my notebook with a i7 CPU I have no problems with any service buffering or stuttering.
I was thinking a i5 or i7 (12th or 13 gen) for CPU. I don't think I will need a GPU but should have option to add later if necessary. The unit will connect to main TV via HDMI. Will likely use Sonarr, and Radaar to keep my PlexServer going with TV and movies. If that works out as expected will reduce needs for KODI. Motherboard should have 6 SATA ports so was thinking MSI b660 might be a good fit with 32 gigs RAM. Start with 4 drives of 16 or 18 GB's. Not sur about case, maybe a Silverstone. Want it to be small. HELP

Best NAS for Unraid Plex server
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2023, 03:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I've built a large unraid server that's replaced all the services in my home. I travel a lot and it's been the best solution out there. I'd like to find a NAS that I can put my own motherboard/cpu in or at least a NAS that has a pretty powerful intel cpu with UHD 750 or greater graphics. I once tried a QNAP 16 bay NAS which I considered pretty perfect but unfortunately the manvel (spelling) cpu was not supported by unraid.

Do you know of any large "all in one" solutions?

  My first Nas purchase.
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2023, 03:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Greetings I have been watching a lot of your vids trying to educate myself. I think I'm ready to make a purchase but I feel reached an impass. I have flip flopped between the qnap 464 and Ds 923+ for a number of reasons. I'm mostly looking for a Nas to help back up photos and videos of me and my family, But I want to option to do it from our cell phone almost like a cloud backup. I want to make it easier for my wife so there's no tinkering on Her end. I also planned to store long-term audio and video recording of game guides we have worked on and continue to work on.

Extra details
We live in a small apartment With a toddler. Very little experience with Nas setups. Fairly advance with PC setups, can troubleshoot most issues. I built all of our PCs.

  Accessing NAS from PC
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-05-2023, 01:30 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi, I have found your Youtube vids to be really informative. Thx a lot for those.
My problem: I bought a DS923+ NAS. Installed all the bits & pieces, checked everything out, loaded up a few TB of data, all OK. All done from a single PC. On the PC, it all works as expected. Explorer/Network show it, files can be accessed fine.
Then I moved to a second PC (both PC's Win10-pro, all up to date). On the other PC, Explorer also shows the NAS. Chrome Browser happily accesses it so I can run DSM (7.2), change anything I want.
BUT, if I click on the NAS in explorer, I'm asked to enter user/password (for Credentials). I enter the correct name and password that it was set up as, and get told the username/password are incorrect. They are absolutely definitely positively (OK, you get the point) correct, but for the life of me I can't connect to it, to use it.
I'm guessing there is a simple tick-box buried in DSM that I need to check, but have no clue where to look. Can you help ??
