Hello! I've been watching your Youtube channel and greatly appreciate the information you share. I'm living in a, RV/Travel trailer, or what I believe you'd call a caravan. My space and power is limited. The Asustor Lockerstor 2 Gen 2 looks perfect for my needs, but would the Flashstor 6 be better considering road bumps and vibration?

Hi. For years now, an old PC have been used for streaming and watching movies on an 2012 something Samsung 1080p Tv trough a reciever. New 4k TV, and the PC needs replacing as it can't handle and output 4k. What NAS can replace the PC and output 4k movies to my new tv via HDMI, and also run a Plex server to access my movies outside home and ofc have space and back up important files, possibly syncing with a cloud service as extra security. Was looking at Qnap TS-664-4G, but I don't know if this is the best option. Thanks for lots of good information on this site :-D

I am looking for a cheap NAS (under £200) for cloud storage and a bit of streaming. Even if it's an older model, which one would you recommend?

I've been running a WD 1TB Zyxel NSA310 for almost 8-years with no issues. Mainly used to backup data from all other devices to free them up. All really important data from the NAS is backed up regularly/ manually to OneDrive. I will soon be adding CCTV and delving into Home Assistant.

I'm really confused which route to go down.
1. A new NAS (maybe DS220+)
2. Attach USB to router
3. Build a NAS/ server

Please can you provide some guidance.

I suppose this is not a very unique request, but I'd be tremendously grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

Looking for a NAS with these requirements:

-Very easy to operate, both install and usage
-Two bays, RAID1
-I'll create a personal cloud to access while on the move -noting I have no fixed IP at home but, like the majority of home users, a dynamic one.
-With a decent transfer rate, enough for backing up data from the home network computers and to stream a 1080p movie with a decent result.
-Upgradable, that is, from a brand that provides support to the OS for it to last a few years, at minimum!
-Decent security to have it open to the Internet for remote access.
-Under 200€ ) -excl discs, of course.

Which brand/models would you recommend to me to have a look at?

I've been a long time follower/ fan of the NASCompares YouTube channel, and have just joined this forum.

I have a DS220+ with 2x 8TB Seagate Ironwolf ST8000VN004-3CP101 drives, which are on Synology's compatibility list. I had no issues with hibernation on DSM 7.1, however since upgrading to 7.2 a few weeks back the disks no longer hibernate.

I see disk activity approximately ever 30 seconds which I suspect is keeping them awake. Looking at resource monitor, it appears that "Storage Service" is writing to the drives at approximately that interval, specifically "btrfs-transacti" and occasionally "kwork:btrfs".

I have a 3rd party memory upgrade via the addition of a Crucial 4GB DDR4-2666 CL19 memory module, and have tried removing this but it didn't solve the problem. Furthermore, I upgraded the memory whilst on DSM 7.1 and hibernation worked in that case.

I've tried removing some of the suggested offending packages such as Active Insight, Container Manager (Docker), Video Station and Cloud Sync, and disabling services (I only use SMB) but to no avail. Again, I didn't have this issue with these packages/ services on DSM 7.1 (those that aren't newly released with DSM 7.2).

I would be interested to hear if anyone else is having a similar experience? Hibernation is not a deal breaker for me, however the intermittent disk activity is a little annoying so I would at least like to try to resolve that!

Just recently purchased a Synology NAS DS923+ also 4 Seagate Ironwolf pro 12TB drives ST12000NT001 to go inside.

Still not sure if i need to upgrade the memory from the 4GB that it came with to 32GB?

As well if i need to install 2 x m.2 ssd's?

Im trying to future proof the nas now rather then later, before i even begin the whole setup process.

This is my very first NAS setup. Im a complete newb to NAS setups. Purpose is for complete data storage and archiving and to get away from using paid cloud services. Also will be used for all my devices to backup to. Eventually will purchase a second NAS as a backup which will be located offsite. So security is extremely important.

Quite happy to use third party memory and m.2 ssd's but not too sure of what brands to purchase.

Your advise is very much appreciated.

I just ordered the Asustor Flashstor 6 and it should arrive next Tuesday. I need advice on what drives to buy six 2tb? Three 4tb? Brand? Gen3? I'm looking for the best low cost drives. Many thanks in advance for the help.

I'm looking at adding a NAS to my home network. Primary use would be to hold data for Plex or similar media server, allow backup and file sharing of photos, documents, etc. Backup of iphone photos instead of icloud if possible. Allow for multiple users to stream media at one time. Do you have any recommendations?

I've been running a very old 1 bay NAS for the last ~10 years. My primary use is to store all my personal files, photos and videos of which there is ~1TB. I occasionally stream videos from it to my TV or view pictures on my phone, but the main purpose is to be able to access the many files saved there, freeing up my phone and laptop, in turn making them run a lot more efficient. I have a an old 1TB external hard drive and backup the NAS periodically for my piece of mind and all the important stuff is also backed up to OneDrive as I subscribe to the Microsoft 365 personal package. I’m considering buying a new NAS so I can start doing more stuff, like saving IP camera footage, access externally, stream videos and perhaps one day explore virtualisation and more recently exploring Home Assistant. I have been looking at the Synology DS220+, building my own NAS/ server but not sure.
