Looking for upgrade from cloud storage. I will have 2 users and no streaming, just backup and cloud storage alternative.
Would a DS223J be enough?

Compatibility of TS-1655-8G with Crucial and Samsung |

Hi,
I am currently in the process of purchasing a QNAP TS-1655. As I am looking to add NVMe SSD, SSDs, HDD and do a RAM upgrade as well, I am looking to be a bit more economical. The compatibility checker on QNAP's website only shows Western Digital, Seagate and Toshiba as their tested manufacturers. I am wondering if anyone has had experience installing cruicial or samsung products in the QNAP NAS as a general and more specifically if possible, the TS-1655.
Thanks a lot.

Hello, I really like your video beginners for NAS system. I have a home pc windows 10. I am currently using 3 12TB external hard drives. I want to switch over to a NAS system. I am thinking Synology 2 or 4 bays. Does it make a deference if I use 2 16 HDD drives or 4 8 HDD drives. I have over 2 TB of music files and growing, a lot of Pictures and a lot of Bible files and Puritan Books on files. I have a Nighthawk wifi with Express VPN on it. I won't be sharing the NAS with anyone, and I don't use Cloud or any social media to worry about. I am retired, and not a computer geek by any stretch of the imagination. What do you suggest for my situation. Thank you, Ted

Hi, what NAS systems would allow home file backup and storage with remote access in a Mac/iPhone/iPad environment. The ability to share storage space with remote family members is also required. Security and ease of use are important as I am new to using a NAS and currently have iCloud and a Time Machine.
Many Thanks

DS723+ , (1) USB Port, need 2 for UPS and Drive |

Debating between the DS220+, and the DS723+. The DS723+ only has (1) USB port, and I want to have a UPS connected to it, for automated power down, as well as a USB External Hard Drive, for backups. It appears the DS220+ “has” 2 USB ports, whereas the DS723+ only has 1 USB port. I’d prefer to use the DS723+, and thought “maybe” I could use a USB Hub, which would allow me to connect a USB hard drive , as well as the UPS cable from my APC Smart UPS. Any thoughts on this, i.e., possible to use a USB Hub, to give me more than “1” USB connection on the DS723+ … ? Thanks in advance for your help!

Synology Photos on DS920+ |

hi Rob,
I have a DS920+ (4 x 8TB Ironwolf NAS drives, SHR) that I have never quite got running as it should specifically for photos. I recently upgraded to DSM 7.2 and with the upgraded Photos app I want to fully utilize it's features. Specifically, I have about 12TB of "family" files of both photos and videos. I have them categorized in folders by "Year", then in folders by "EventName_Date" and within those folders the individual files. My organizational structure works well for me to manually find images from specific events quickly.
However, I would now like to index all of my photos (and videos if possible) so I can do a name search in Synology Photos to find specific people throughout my entire collection without restructuring my entire organizational structure.
Can I do a photo search for a specific person with my existing file structure or do the photos need to be moved into a special "Photos" directory in order to be searchable?
Love your channel, many thanks!

New NAS Setup on SSD's? |

Setting up a new QNAP TS-462 mostly for Plex Multimedia. Is it best to first install the SSD's as Raid 1 and set them up as storage and install QTS and the apps such as Plex Media Server on these 2x1TB devices? Then install the 4x6TB HD's as Raid 5 and setup the shared Movies Folder, etc. on the HD's? Or is it best to just install all the drives at once setting the SSD's in Raid1 as cashing and the HD's in Raid 5 and install QTS and everything on the HD's.
2 - SSD's are WD Red SN700 NVMe - 1TB each
4 - Seagate IronWolf ST6000VN00451 - 6TB each (Repurpose from non working QNAP TS=453Bmini)
Thank you for any suggestions you can provide...........Jose
