Hello, my name is austin craig. I just had a recent tool theft of 40 thousand dollars happen to me down here on the south shore in nova scotia canada.. i have purchased a camera system that has 4k quality and is hard wired to a battery in my tool trailer. In order to be able to view the cameras remotely i need to have the box wired into a wireless router with a Ethernet cable.. i am wondering what router you would recommend for this.. i want to have a top of the line setup as these new tools i had to buy are my lively hood and this is how i feed my family.. if you have any advice for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for you time

Rob,
I hope this finds you well. I have an ioSafe 218 NAS that's got 2 10TB HD running as a SHR RAID. If I wanted to upgrade this what's the largest HD Size, you think I could use? Is a 2X 20TB doable, or can I change the SHR RAID to just a RAID 1 and forget about the SHR redundancy, since it's only a Fireproof safety net and if it went down, I would be able to rebuild it rather easily.

Hi Team,
Hoping to get some advice/recommendations for my first NAS purchase.
My use-case will be mainly storing media (movies, tv shows, music). I'm currently using an assortment of external hard drives to store my data and copy locally whenever I need access to a file.
I would like to be able to access the files via my Macbook, PC and Android TV box via VLC.
A nice to have is also to set up a Jellyfin server for media access.
I've already bought two HDDs in anticipation of setting up a NAS which is the 'WD Red Pro 18TB' so compatibility will be needed.
The first option that I have seen is the Synology DS224+ but after some digging on your website/youtube I saw the Ds720+ as also a potential option, would appreciate your steer on pros/cons and future proofing (as much as possible)
Also open to QNAP if you feel it's a better option for me.
Any recommendation would be appreciated

Currently 90% Apple (Mac,iPhone, ipads iOS) 10% windows. Heavily rely on photos and integration with iCloud. But mostly want to move away from iCloud/google drive/one-drive/drop box (maxed on almost all free & paying more for iCloud now). Considering 2 vs 4-bay and Synology (223 v 923+) vs QNAP 264 & 464. Don't do streaming/plex, mostly just remote/accessible file storage. And for 3-2-1, considering a two solution purchase for offsite assist? I already picked up 2 8TB SATA drives on blackfriday (seagate). And can i mix/match systems in future? Tx!

Hello I want a DAS RAID5 soultion for storage/backup of my RAW photos. Only I will use it so I won't need a NAS. Do I need server drives for this DAS bay (for example Seagate Ironwolf?) Or jus simple Seagate Exos are enough?
Would you recommend some 4bay DAS RAID arrays?

I have a server (just a PC) at my office away from home on which I can run a virtual Truenas installation with four raid drives.

After watching your video on UPS’s, I’ve decided to buy one. I have a Mac Studio and Studio display and in the next few weeks a Synology DS 923+, which I would like to protect, mainly from power outages. I’ve been living in Denmark for the last 30 years we don’t have power surges or drops, but I want to protect my investments just in case. I’ve chosen 2 Cyberpower Adaptive Sinewave models
CP1300EPFCLCD and CP1500EPFCLCD. I have a question maybe you know the answer as it’s a little confusing. In Denmark I can only buy UPS’s with either Schuko or IEC connectors and some with both. Can you use adaptors with UPS the Danish plugs are different as are the English. What does one do in this situation. I also have a desk I can move up or down can I use a short extension (2 metres) from the UPS up to my Mac Studio and Studio Display as the cables will not be long enough to reach the UPS.
You have been a great help to me over the last few weeks, so much so that I know exactly what to buy next.

Hi, the production side of our company consists of myself and a director. My knowledge of NAS consists only of what I have gleaned from your great videos. The primary storage will be located at the director's home and I hope to edit from that from mine. This will consist of some 6k/BRAW and 4k Prores footage on a Mac Studio/M2/Max. We both have Gig fiber connections. Is this possible? Thank you, Allen

Syncthing setup on QNAP ? |

I have Syncthing running on my Synology and 3 Windows computers. While I did have a few teething issues, all of the syncs are running fine now. So, I tried to introduce my QNAP NAS into the mix but it's not going anywhere. I'm sure that my folder path is correct ( /share/volume_name/sync_target_folder ). I suspect that it may be a permission issue because nothing it being written to the target folder on the QNAP including the .stfolder . But, according to various post on the Syncthing forum, no special permissions are needed on a QNAP NAS. ( On the Synology, Syncthing creates a system user and that user must be given permissions to the folders wanting to be sync'd.) I have searched the Syncthing forum for a solution but have exhausted all avenues.
Anyone setup Syncthing on a QNAP NAS that can point me in the right direction ?
