I have recently replaced hard drives in my ds918+ and want to sell the old drives on. How do I prepare them so they are ‘empty’ or should I have done something to them when they were still in the Nas unit?

Hi!
Happy New Year! I am a tech guy and enjoy your content on everything NAS a lot.
I am currently using a Synology NAS DS413j which I bought back in 2013 and am finally going to upgrade. I actually went and bought a DS923+ and was hoping to make use of it as an Emby Media server. I didn't use my previous NAS for anything other than media serving but wanted to step up to using Emby instead of Audio Station and Video Station. I am concerned though that I may have made the wrong choice!! My videos are either MKV, MK4 or MP4 (I think that is it) and my audio is in FLAC and MP3...
Did I make a mistake? Will it work for my use case? should I upgrade the memory and if so, can I get by with using memory other than Synology?
Appreciate the free advice! Thanks, John

Migrate Plex from Dell Server to Synology |

Drive Space
Server: 25tb - free2.89tb + 14.5tb - free 2.36tb
MD1400:36.3tb - free 2.16tb
Total - 75.8tb used - 7.41tb free
Synology: 38.4tb - free 2.60
External: 2tb - 32gb free
External: 11tb - 465gb free
Total - 51.4tb used - 3.1tb free
Grand Total: 127tb used - 10.51tb free
I currently have plex loaded on a dell 730xd with an md1400 raid array, plus a Synology DS1515+ for additional storage. I want to get rid of the server and either get an expansion for the current synology with 150tb total, or sell it all and get a new synology if the one I have cannot handle transcoding 720 externally for my 14 friends, and 1080p for me internally.

Hi, we are looking to create a hone network using NAS to service 1 pc, 1 Mac, and 4 phones. The main goal is to upload all family photos/videos in one place that that is secure, can be backed up and has an easy user interface so we can find photos easily on our phones.. We have many actual pictures that would need to be scanned and uploaded, so we would need someway to tag the photos either such as facial recognition or AI.
Not sure about space requirements but we have 2 teenagers that take lots of videos and pictures on their phones so would need space for that in addition to having space for the family photos as well.
Thank you,
Ann

Hello,
I want my family members to have access to my nas but me as admin I don't want to have any access to their files or account I only should have access to delete their account. And I also don't want to share any folder with them I want them to access the nas and make their own folders without me knowing which folders they have created and what files they have uploaded.
Kindly advise if this is possible and if so please provide detailed instructions cuz in user group I've noticed I can't uncheck "everyone" option. I want each person to be on their own me as admin only want permission to modify their account like increasing their usage limit and option for me to delete their account.
thank you. Looking forward to your reply

QNAP 653D
2 x 4TB HDDs for general data, shared folders, mp3, video, photo surveillance with 4 x motion detection cameras
1 x 1TB SSD for VMs
1 x 500GB SSD for QTS OS (some suggest QTS saved across all drives so this irrelevant)
Two main users, limited creative content generated, occasional cad drgs
I want to use VM to access Autocad drawings currently on an old windows XP PC
This PC is not connected to the internet. I want to access the content and legacy XP programs
Can I create an image of this PC copy to the NAS to allow access with XP VM
4 others will use for additional storage photos, videos, backup
Raid not needed, I will not create enough changing content to warrant. A regular backup would suffice with separate external HDD
Raid not needed for surveillance, probability of failure at exact time some crucial footage is recorded would be miniscule
Can you please advise best storage set up

DIY NAS: Usage intentions are clear, but unsure of build approach |

I'm looking to build a modest home NAS for me and my parents (two households). I know what I want to achieve in terms of usage but have some questions regarding hardware. On the software side of things, however, I'm looking forward to learning more and I expect to spend a lot of time tinkering and optimising. Some context:
COUNTRY: Australia
BUDGET: $500-600 AUD
STORAGE: 8 TB
GOALS:
- General storage for documents and media collections.
- Self-hosting (BitWarden, Photoprism).
- Jellyfin/Plex media server with 1080p transcoding capability on at least two devices. Power-efficient and relatively quiet.
QUESTIONS
- Is this achievable with my budget?
- Repurpose old PCs or build from scratch?
- Separate device for media server? (e.g mini PC)
- Is a dedicated HDD for redundancy necessary?
- RAM - 8 GB or 16 GB?
Thanks in advance.

Synology 2FA and emergengy email |

I have subscribed to your videos, they have been great.
However, I have a fairly big issue that I can't seem to get around.
I have my Synology username and password. However, I have upgraded my phone and now the 2FA "Secure Signin" App is not configured for my NAS, so I can't get the six digit code. Added to which the "emergency passcode" via email is not getting through to my email account.
So, now I'm complexly stuck even though I have my password and username.
Are you able to offer any suggestions?
