Good afternoon!
I'm thinking about getting a 4bay Nas researched the idea for like 1wk now and is getting confusing.
I'm a 37 yr old man with very basic knowledge of PC .I'm mainly going to use it for storing photos and videos, CCTV,Plex/jellyfin sounds nice don't really know if I'll have the time to download, upload and whatever you need to do to create your own movie library... sounds nice tho.
I was thinking to grab a used NAS of ebay like a Synology 918+
Don't really know what direction to go and would not really wanna pay an arm and a leg for em.
I'm a quick learner and I like doing stuff,b

Healuck 4 Bay N100 Quad Core NAS Mini PC, Network NAS Storage for Home, Dual 2.5GbE NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-18-2024, 07:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I watched your review of the Aoostar 4 bay NAS and while it is pretty much the right hardware I am looking for, I am not as enthusiastic about all the I/O being on the left side as you were.

As I continued my search I stumbled on a similar box but with the I/O on the back where God intended I/O to be....... The Healuck 4 Bay N100 Quad Core NAS Mini PC, Network NAS Storage for Home, Dual 2.5GbE NAS

Any chance of Nascompares doing a review on this machine?

  DS1522+

Hello, I'm currently subscribed to your channel and have watched many videos around memory upgrades and m2 storage pools. I was wondering if you can point me to any videos that might show 3rd party memory that you have tested. I believe that I saw one of these but now can't seem to find again. Also, I've seen several videos you have done where m2 pools are only allowed with Synology drives so wondering if there is a video where this has been changed and I might find tested 3rd party drives that would work with DS1522+.

Thanks,
Lee

NAS for FLAC music and pictures
Posted by: andyman1970 - 09-18-2024, 01:42 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello - starting to spec out NAS devices for the above, really not interested in leveraging for video in the near to intermediate future.  For now, I just need a shareable, networkable device with music and pics to be tied into my WiFi and my Yamaha RX-A2A AVR.

Currently considering QNAP TS-264-8G-24WD-US with 2 8TB WD drives and a 16 GB RAM upgrade from Crucial.

Should I be considering anything else at this point?  Thanks in advance.

Looking for backup solutions for windows
Posted by: kjones120320 - 09-18-2024, 06:24 AM - Forum: Backup Solutions - Replies (6)

7/10 machine that can automatically create backups or ISO images for fast restores. I've used Veeam and I liked it, but I'm also considering Datto, Clonezilla, and Macrium Reflect. Since I work in manufacturing, maintaining all settings, software, and licenses is critical, and minimizing machine downtime is a priority. Any recommendations?

  Terramaster F4-223 NAS Firewall RULES
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-17-2024, 03:35 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hello
I am in the process of finalizing my Plex setup on my Terramaster F4-223 NAS. I have set a local firewall rule with the IP range of 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.255 and allowed all ports so the devices on my network have access to the NAS.
I also need my Plex server on the NAS to be able to talk to the internet so it can pull down the metadata for shows I add to my Plex libraries.
I have tried using the rule of allow all Ip's with port 32400 selected , but when i tried to activate this rule before while having the local IP rule set up and active it crashed the firewall. Not sure if this is normal or not. Ever since I have been trying to come up with a solution to allow Plex internet access while also having the local rule active. My temporary solution is to turn off the local firewall rule when I need to move files into Plex Libraries so Plex can pull down the metadata then re-enable the local firewall rule. any help would be much appreciated

I dont understand the differences between different GB speeds
Posted by: docyak - 09-17-2024, 11:35 AM - Forum: Existing NAS users - Replies (1)

I have a qnap ts464 with 2 2.5GB ports. My house has cat5e connections behind the walls.
1) Is there really benefit to having the 2,5gb ports?
2) What would be the benefit, if any, of upgrading to a 10gb card?
3) IS there any benefit to having both 2.5GB ports p[lugged into my netowrk and if so, what?

  Is Synology still the best?
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-17-2024, 11:35 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

I’m planning on getting my first NAS and after some research was set on the DS423+, but now I’m seeing videos about Synology removing apps from their OS and YouTube comments about a subscription model. My NAS will only be used for Plex and iPhone photo backup. What’s my best turnkey option these days?

  Re-build a DS1817plus with 8GB Ram installed
Posted by: Enquiries - 09-17-2024, 11:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - Replies (1)

Hi,

Many complemets for your video's & information provided on YouTube.

For that reason I'm now re-building my "old" Synology DS1817+ with : (1x 1TB & 1x2TB & 1x 3TB & 4x 4TB & 1x 8TB)
Into a "new" NAS system using the following: components (4x 4TB & 4x 8TB):

My 8GB RAM upgrade is into 16GB with a SeQuell set of 16 GB kit (2 x 8 GB) (PC3L-12800S) RAM
(According Amazon suitable for Synology NAS DS1817+ and thus purchased).

Considering for additional "fast" storage or caching?:
2x M.2 SATA 600 SSD - WD Blue SA510 1TB's
or
2x M.2 NVMe SSD - Samsung 980 (PRO) or WD Black SN850X - 1TB's

Raid type will be SHR and my question(s) are:
- Should I consider additional fast storage or caching?
- Which sequence of HD capacity should I apply in this unit first?
4x 4TB and later the additional 4x 8TB or
4x 8TB and later the additional 4x 4TB or all-in once
4x 4TB & 4x 8TB (which has my preference)

Many thanks for any reply from your side

Kind regards,
Fred Oprel
