Help I'm dumb. - Enquiries - 10-13-2024

Hi,

I've just got round to building a nas server I've been sitting on for a month. Brought me a snazzy gen 5 M2 drive (t705) but after putting it together realised that the heatsink that comes with this fast M2 doesn't have the clearance with the graphics card. (For av1 encoding) Is there a decent small (less than 1 cm heatsink) or such thinks as a 5.0 riser cable for M2 drives please help.

Kurt

No worries! It happens to the best of us, and it’s great that you’re finally building your NAS server. For your Gen 5 M.2 drive, it can be tricky when the heatsink doesn't fit due to space constraints.

For a compact heatsink, there are several options available that are designed specifically for low-profile setups. Look for heatsinks that are under 1 cm in height, and brands like Noctua, Thermal Grizzly, or EKWB often have good options. Just make sure to check the compatibility with your M.2 drive to ensure proper cooling.

As for riser cables, yes, there are M.2 riser cables available that can accommodate Gen 5 drives. You'll want to ensure that the riser is compatible with PCIe 5.0 to take full advantage of the drive's speed. Brands like Akeyless and others often provide riser cables with various lengths, including shorter ones that might fit your setup.
