First NAS |

I am looing for my first ever NAS, to use as a mass storage that I can still access without having to fiddle around with external drives. I would prefer something that is off the shelv and has an easy interface. I have looked at the WD My cloud expert series ultra 2 and it looked quite good at first glance. Both in terms of value and software. I have only found old reviews though.
Is there something I should know about it beforehand, or do you know of something that has even better value?
Any and all suggestions are wellcome.

I am trying to set up collections of movies or TV shows that have seasons or episodes. For example, I am trying to organize Jessie Stone shows. There are 9 Jessie Stone shows and I would like to see one poster with the episodes displayed after I click on it. I read the Jellyfin help documents, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Can you help?
Thanks

hi, with a dead Drobo and lost images, I'm just wanting a simple backup with easy access from a laptop, desk computer, iPad, and phone, all Mac.
if the unit dies, Synology is proprietary like the Drobo. Can I pull Qnap disks out and plug them into a new Qnap successfully? Can I with Synology?
I'm leaning towards a two bay Qnap for its future proofing and ability to add additional storage, a TS 264 for instance.
I could put music on there too, free up space on my laptop, and save on an upgraded laptop. 500 GB vs 1 TB which is also part of the equation.
thanks in advance, Frank... ASUS modem.

SSD compatibility with QNAP TVS H674 |

Hi there - I am looking to setup a Snap TVS H674 NAS initially with 4 x 8Tb Samsung Sata SSD 870 QVO drives. I know very little about the compatibility of SSD's with NAS devices and was wondering if the above combination would work. When populating a NAS with SATA SSD's is it the same setup process etc as it would be with spinning drives.
Apologies for asking such basic questions here - very much appreciate your help and support.
Cheers,
Mike I win

Dear NAS Compares friends:
A few years ago I hestitated to invest in a NAS system, largely because fibre and mesh router capacities here made it prohbitively expensive to gear myself up then even with a functioning 1gb LAN. Now, however, for my next round of local storage expansion, I will acquire a nice TP-Link Deco X95 mesh set up to which I want to add a reliable 4 to 5 bay NAS. Can you please tell me what is to your mind the latest/greatest Qnap 2.5gb LAN ethernet capable offering/s that may fit needs of an indie film/video pro like me, but also if you can recommend any less front-load/learning curve heavy alternative brand? I don't want to get too mired in set up and requiring deep knowledge to maintain a reliable and reasonably fast NAS system for my work, as I can imagine you hear from others like me! THANK YOU.

Beestation vs DS124 |

Hi,
I am looking to replace an Apple TimeCapsule that I use as a central storage at home (files, photos, ...) and also as a music library for a Sonos multi room sound system. Apple does not support SMB 2 and above which I need though to work with my music system. That's why I am looking to replace the TimeCapsule, which I was happy with so far aside from the speed
Now after researching I found two alternatives: (1) the Beestation dn (2) the DS 124.
The solution I am looking for should provide for reasonable speed and should last.
My question: will the Beestation be sufficient or would you rather recommend the DS124?
An advice would be much appreciated.
BR Fabian
PS: I am not a very technical person and just need things running. ;-)

New NAS |

Hi
I’m considering replacing my aging Synology 2bay with a DS923+, 3 Samsung 870 QVO 2TB Sata SSDs, 1 Hat3300-4T or 6T ( or equivalent), the SSD’s in Raid configuration, the HardDrive for local backups of the SSD’s and extra temporary workspace if required. I don’t have a huge data volume, but it is slowly growing. The NAS is providing Time Machine and Windows backups plus shared family storage of music, photos and some file storage.
I’m attracted to using SSD’s in the NAS for the quiet operation, so may not opt for the HardDrive in the 4th bay.
I’ll keep the old NAS for HyperBackups of the new NAS in the short term.
Q? Is it sensible to buy now?
Q? Is the proposed config any good?
Q? Are there any alternatives that can offer similar functionality to Synology, particularly Cloud Station file sync between the NAS, my Mac and partners PC?
Many thanks
Neil
